Spectrophotometry measures the amount of light of a specified wavelength, which
passes through a medium. In solutions, Red Blood cells experience hemolysis. The
rate of hemolysis depends on the solutions molecular weight and polarity. The
Sodium Chloride/blood solution did not absorb much of the 540 nm wavelength.
However, the glycerol/blood solution absorbed more of the 540 nm light
wavelength. The polar glycerol/blood solution absorbed a greater amount of light
and lysed. This was due to the ease at which glycerol penetrated the red blood cell s
cell membrane. Larger, organic molecules in a solution do not cause Red Blood cells
1.2mL of 0.3 M glycerol was added to a cuvette, which is placed in a sample holder.
Transfer the cuvette to the sample holder in the machine and close the lid gently.
Blank the machine by pressing the 0 ABS. 3 mL of 0.3 M glycerol was added to a
test tube and10 microliters of whole blood was pipetted into this solution. The tube
was covered with a piece of Para film and inverted to gently to mix. The time was
recorded. Then, 1.2 mL of the blood/glycerol suspension was transferred into a new

that she is most likely surrounded by. She also describes the humungous waves called

recalls the times that she used to surf and work at the surf shop. She gets really

I was done, I needed out, and I needed out now. There was plenty of time before
college started and I was in need of this thrill before 4 years of hell settled upon me.
I stuffed my bag with clothes, small items I would need, and my wallet.
They thought they were in charge. Huh. Barely whispering as I smirked.
Not any more boys, not anymore. I opened the bedroom door and shuffled down the
hall, it kept the floor from squeaking. I grabbed my car keys and hiking boots and
headed out the door.
Days prior I had bought things that were needed for this trip and kept them in the
shed. I went to REI and ended up running into my mother s friend, that scared me.
Last night while my brother was out I filled up his car with everything I would need.
I went back into the shop and ordered the same thing, but to go. I got back in my car
and thought about all the hikes my family and I took a while back. My mind
wandered to my parents, now working internationally. They only came home for a
weekend every other month. It was up to my brothers to watch me this summer, to
keep me entertained in Newton while all my friends went down to the Cape and the
Islands while I had to suck it up and be here.
Good thing I left. Shows em a thing or two about how much the boys got freedom
compared to me. I announced in my car.
The caffeine had finally kicked in. I decided that if Jane wanted a ride she would
have known where to find me. I went back to my hotel, went on another run and

Arriving back at my tent I packed up. I felt like I had made a friend yesterday, only to
