- 3. www.artandbeyondpublications.com • 5 The inaugural Art Downtown in Vancouver brought artists and musicians together, creating an outdoor environment to share and enjoy art of all kinds. Made possible through an agreement between the Vancouver Visual Arts Foundation and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, the summer-long event took over two busy pavilions and covered them in easels for the public to view and purchase. Taisha Teal, director of operations for VVAF, said the concept was born out of a desire to promote the non-profit organization when so many shows and exhibitions have been cancelled due to COVID-19. “We made an agreement to have more community art and local art,” Teal said. “This is free for everyone, and the artists are able to sell their work.” In addition to displayed art and live music, Art Downtown featured live painting, interactive art experiences and even a live art competition. The goal of Art Downtown was to mirror Montmartre in Paris, where artists set up outdoors and paint year round. Teal said the initial public reaction was one of surprise and excitement, but that everyone was happy to walk around and experience the artistic atmosphere. “You get to interact with artists. You're not just going into a gallery and looking at a painting and not knowing the backstory behind the painting. She relocated to the UK in 2014. Lize has the ability to evoke emotion with every line or brushstroke. Her artwork invites the spectator to realize that something fragile can, in truth, hold so much power. Loss, mental health, and abuse are at the forefront of Lize's artwork. She manages to transform delicate subjects into the divine. Her work reminds us that vulnerability should be embraced and cherished. I would like to blend artistic approach with love for nature and the environment, environmental protection. Not just for artists but for scientific foundations, ethical and visual principles. The human approach to nature and honesty is inevitable. It requires a moral and ethical basis; it is evident that the youth will acquire the conscious approach that must be based on strong morals by learning and teaching. We can stick to the teachings of the Bible to "love your neighbor as yourself, do not kill, do not steal". When and where these young people grow up and get into responsible, decision-making positions as directors, industrialists, producers or entrepreneurs, they should choose the right direction.
