Administrative
Workbench
• The Administrator Workbench is the tool for
controlling, monitoring, and maintaining all of
the processes connected with data staging
and processing in the Business Information
Warehouse.
• The data for the SAP Business Information
Warehouse that has been staged with the
help of the Administrator Workbench can be
evaluated and presented with the Business
Explorer reporting tool.

Modeling
• you can create and edit all the objects and rules of
the Administrator Workbench that are needed for
data transport, update and analysis.
• The objects are displayed in modeling in a tree
structure. The objects are sorted here according to
hierarchical criteria. You can select the
corresponding maintenance dialog or carry out the
relevant functions from the context menu (right
mouse click). Double clicking on an object brings
you to the corresponding maintenance dialog.
Components of AWB
• Info Provider.
• Info Objects.
• Info Sources.
• Source System.
• PSA.
InfoObject
• Business evaluation objects (customers.
sales revenues,...) are known in BW as
Info Objects.
They are divided into
• characteristics, key figures, units, time
characteristics&technical
characteristics.
• Info Objects are the basic information
providers of BW. They structure the
information needed to create data
targets.
• The characteristics of an InfoObject are reference
objects (keys) with interrelated dimensions (for
example, ‘region’ and ‘land’ are the geographical
dimensions of ‘customer’).
• Time characteristics are characteristics that are
assigned to the dimension of time. Their
dependencies are therefore already known,
because time is predefined.
• The key figures of an InfoObject form the data
part. That is, they deliver the values that you want
to report on. Key figures can be quantities, amounts
or number of items. These values must have units
to give them meaning..
• The technical characteristics of an
InfoObject are only of structural use within
BW. An example is the request number,
which is taken when you load a request
and helps you find the request at a later
date
InfoProviders
• An InfoProvider is an object for
which queries can be created or
executed in BEx. InfoProviders are
the objects or views that are
relevant for reporting.
E.g. Infocube , ODS, Infoobjects,
etc,.
Source System
All systems that provide the SAP Business
Information Warehouse with data are
described as source systems.
• SAP source systems ,
• SAP Business Information Warehouse
systems.
• External systems, in which data and
metadata is transferred using staging
BAPIs.
Info Source
• an Info Source describes the quantity of all
the data available for a business
transaction or a type of business
transaction (for example, cost center
accounting).
• An Info Source is a quantity of information
that logically belongs together, summarized
into a single unit.
• An Info Source is always a quantity of
InfoObjects that logically belong together.
The structure in which these are stored is
called a communication structure.
• InfoSources contain either transaction
data or master data (attributes, texts and
hierarchies).
There are basically two types of
InfoSources.
• InfoSources with flexible updating
• InfoSources with direct updating
• The transfer structure is the structure in
which the data is transported from the
source system into the SAP Business
Information Warehouse.
• It provides a selection of the extract
structure fields for the source system
• The transfer structure provides BW with
all the source system information
available for a business process.

Extract Structure
• In the extract structure, data from a
DataSource is staged in the source
system. The extract structure contains
the amount of fields that are offered by
an extractor in the source system for
the data loading process.
• An Info Source is always a quantity of
InfoObjects that logically belong
together. The structure in which these
are stored is called a communication
structure.
Update Rules
• Update rules specify how the data (key figures,
time characteristics, characteristics) is updated
into the InfoProvider from the communication
structure of an Info Source. You are therefore
connecting an Info Source with an InfoProvider.
• An update rule must be specified for each key
figure and for the corresponding characteristics
of the InfoCube. For an ODS Object, it must be
specified for the data and key fields, and for an
InfoObject it must be specified for the attribute
and key fields.

  • 17. Update Rules • Update rules specify how the data (key figures, time characteristics, characteristics) is updated into the InfoProvider from the communication structure of an Info Source. You are therefore connecting an Info Source with an InfoProvider. • An update rule must be specified for each key figure and for the corresponding characteristics of the InfoCube. For an ODS Object, it must be specified for the data and key fields, and for an InfoObject it must be specified for the attribute and key fields.
