• Health is a state of
complete physical,
mental and social
well-being and not
merely the absence of
disease or infirmity.
• Public health is "the science and
art of preventing disease,
prolonging life and promoting
health through the organized
efforts and informed choices of
society, organizations, public and
private, communities and
individuals.
MEDICINE
• Primary focus on individual
• Personal service ethic, in the
context of social responsibilities
• Emphasis on disease diagnosis,
treatment, and care for the
individual patient
• Medical paradigm places
predominant emphasis on
medical care
• Uniform system for certifying
specialists beyond professional
medical degree
• Etiology and patho physiology
(infectious disease, oncology)
PUBLIC HEALTH
• Primary focus on populations
• Emphasis on disease prevention
and health promotion for the
whole community

“NCDS - NON COMMUNICABLE
DISEASE”
• NCDs, is a medical condition or disease, which by
definition is non infectious and non- transmittable
among the people.
• NCDs may chronic disease of long duration and
slow progression, or they may be result in more
rapid death such as in some types of sudden
stroke.
They include---NCD’s are distinguished only by their non-
infectious cause, not necessarily by their duration.
• Autoimmune diseases.
• Heart diseases.
• Stroke.
• Various malignancies.
• CKD (Chronic kidney disease).
• Asthma.
• Diabetes mellitus.
• Osteoporosis.
• Alzheimer’s disease.
• NCDs are currently responsible for over 60% of
global death. This burden is one of the major public
health challenges facing all countries, regardless of
their economic status. NCDs threaten economic and
social development and, without concerted efforts
at country level, are predicted to increase in the
coming decade.
RISK FACTORS
• Gender.
• Genetics.
• Pollution.
• Smoking.
• Unhealthy diet.
• Hypertension.
• Raised cholesterol.
• Tobacco use.
• Alcohol consumption.
• Overweight.
• Life - style.
• Environmental.

“EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY”
• As per World Health Organization (WHO) reports
NCDs are expected to be by far the leading cause of
death in the world

• Lifestyle diseases refer to diseases that result
because of choices people make in their life.
• Common lifestyle diseases include heart
disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, asthma,
chronic liver disease, COPD, diabetes, stroke and
osteoporosis

ROLE OF AYURVEDA FOR THE
PREVENTION OF THE NCD
• Main aim of Ayurvedic science is to maintain the
health of healthy individuals and cure the diseased
one.
• स्वस्थस्य्स्वास््य्रक्षणम्आतुरस्य्ववकार् प्रशमनम्ll
• These can be prevented well by following the
principle of Ayurveda. The main principle explained
in Ayurveda to counteract these as follows -
CONCEPT OF PATHYA AND APATHYA-
DO AND DON’TS
The Ayurvedic classic explained the unique concept
of the do and don’ts as per different season and
different ailments. The one great scholar of middle
century explained the importance of following the
do and donts of food article as follows-------------

• Following Din- charya by making suitable change in the
Aahara and Vihaara.
• Following Rutu-charya including Rutu Anusaar
shodhana.
• Non suppression of natural urges.
• Rasayana including Aachara Rasayana.
• Following Sadvritta.
• Vaajikarana.
• Life style disorder are the main group of disorders
which occur in the individual due to non following of
daily activities as explained in the Ayurvedic classics.
• Ayurveda is
• as the science of LIFE which explains the individual
how to maintain the health and lead a socially useful
life, have positive long life.
• The concept of AACHARA-RASAYANA is beautifully
explained in Ayurveda merely enough to uproot the
LSD.
• CVD – CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE are considered
to be the major burden on nations worldwide. The
mortality and morbidity is unpredictable. Due to
the unhealthy diet and unwholesome life style
premature ageing changes such as Arthero-
sclerosis in the major coronary arteries leads to
sudden and unexpected death. The regimen
explained in the Ayurveda – such as SHODHANA
procedure is such a great concept the result of
which is beyond the imagination of ordinary
physician.
SHODHANA PROCEDURE
• The person who undergoes reapeated shodhana
procedure followed by the removal or clearing of all
blockages pertaining to major and minor blood
vessels as well major channel of the body. By
undergoing shodhana the whole of the GIT tract will
be cleared without causing the much harm to the
normal friendly intestinal bacteria which is
expected to happen if the contemporary science
medicines are not used with caution.
