COMMUNICATION
• Whenever we think about communication the main question that arises in
our mind is that what is communication in the first place?
• To answer this question we need to go to the deep roots of communication
and figure out what is communication for ourselves. When we do that we
realize that communication is the art of transmitting knowledge ideas
information and thoughts from one person to another.
• The transfer should be such that the receiver understands the meaning
and the intent of the message and give proper feedback.
IMPORTANCE
• Planning
• understanding each other
• establishment of effective leadership
• increases efficiency
• basis of decision makings
• smooth working of enterprise
• motivation
• coordination
MEANS OF COMMUNICATION
• There are many different means of communication some are electronic and
others being non electronic.
• Electronic means of communication are: e-mail, instant messaging, text
messaging, online chat rooms, forums, social media platforms like Twitter,
Facebook, WhatsApp, discord and other stuff like Skype or zoom.
• Non electronic means of communication are: face to face meeting and
physical copies of documents such as reports, pay slips and invoices and
letters etc.
BARRIERS TO COMMUNICATION
• There are six different barriers to communication:
1. Language barrier
2. Cultural barrier
3. Psychological barrier
4. Physiological barrier
5. Gender barrier
6. Physical barrier

LANGUAGE BARRIER
• Language barriers is one of the main barriers that limits effective
communication language is the most commonly employed tool of
communication the fact that each major region has its own language is
one of the barriers to effective communication.
• language barriers usually occur when two people who speak different
languages cannot understand one another, and there is a breakdown in
language and communication. They can also come from physical
language disabilities which include stuttering, articulation disorder and
hearing loss.
BREAKING THE LANGUAGE BARRIER
• Somethings need to be done in order to break the language barrier between two
persons:
1. Learning the universal language in order to communicate.
2. Speak slowly and clearly.
3. Be patient.
4. Be specific.
5. Avoid idioms.
6. Frequently check for understanding.
CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS BARRIER
• Sometimes, a person may feel uncomfortable communicating with people from
other religions or culture because of assumptions about the other’s beliefs and
opinions. One main communication barrier stemming from religion and culture
is individuals’ lack of knowledge or information about other religions and belief
systems.
• Due to not having enough knowledge on the next persons culture Or
religion it could create serious misunderstanding and lead to some
unexpected results.
BREAKING THE CULTURAL AND
RELIGIOUS BARRIER
• There are many ways to break the cultural and religious barrier among
people:
1. communication at a mutual ground.
2. learn something about their religion
3. ask a question when in doubt.
4. Use mutual language and signs
5. Understand the context.
PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIER
• The influence of psychological state of communicators which creates an obstacle for
effective communication. Psychological barrier means that the person’s emotions are
not stable which are also not allowing him to think straight or be reasonable.it also
means that the person is unable to think straight.
BREAKING THE PSYCHOLOGICAL
BARRIER
• There are many ways to break the psychological barrier. For that purpose
we need to adapt ourselves to somethings:
1. Check whether it is a good time and place to communicate with the person
2. Be clear and use language that the person understands
3. Communicate one thing at a time
4. Try to be as broad-minded as possible
5. Check that the person has understood you correctly
PHYSIOLOGICAL BARRIER
• Physiological barriers to communication refer to the physical conditions or
limitations that can impact the effective exchange of information between
individuals.
• The most common physiological barriers include vision impairment, hearing
impairment, language disorders and speech impairments.
• Additionally, physiological barriers can also affect both verbal and nonverbal
communication making it challenging for individuals to convey or understand
information accurately.
BREAKING THE PHYSIOLOGICAL BARRIER
• There are many ways to overcome the physiological barrier:
1. Learn to understand body language.
2. Seek therapy and medical help for physical disabilities. Speech and hearing
impairments can be treated with therapy, surgeries or mechanical aids.
3. Learn to listen carefully.
4. Use technology where possible to bridge the gap.
5. Improve overall emotional and physical health.
GENDER BARRIER
• This barrier rises because different genders have different ways of thinking
and communication.
• Gender barriers are obstacles that prevent equal participation and
communication between different genders.
• It may occur due to several reasons such as shyness and different
difficulties while facing another genders.
BREAKING THE GENDER BARRIER
• There are many ways to break the gender barrier between different
genders:
1. Create gender neutral policies.
2. Ask others how they want to be addressed.
3. Educate your team about gender and gender bias.
4. Encourage diversity.
5. Equip your HR team.
PHYSICAL BARRIER
• Physical barriers to communication are elements or physical factors that
act as a distraction to hinder the flow of communication. These barriers
include:
1. Noise
2. Time
3. Distance
4. Technical difficulties
5. Health conditions
BREAKING THE PHYSICAL BARRIER
• There are many ways to break the physical barrier to communication:
1. Doing face to face meetings
2. Finding quiet spaces for communication whenever possible such as
meeting rooms or designated areas with minimal background noise.
3. Using noise cancellation technologies, such as headphones or
microphones with noise reduction features.
4. Doing FaceTime meetings or meetings over phone calls to bridge the gap
over long distances
