Bootstrap 4 Alpha 3 is the latest version of the popular Bootstrap framework. It features several changes from previous versions including moving from Less to Sass for styling, enhancing the grid system for better mobile support, dropping support for older browsers like IE8, introducing new card components, and improving tooltips and popovers with auto-placement. Some advantages are improved performance from Sass compilation and easier responsive design. Potential disadvantages include similar website layouts between sites and reduced need for web designers.

Introduction
 Before study Bootstrap 4 , we must know that what is Bootstrap? Actually
Bootstrap is the most popular HTML, CSS, and JavaScript framework for
developing responsive, mobile-first web sites.
 And Bootstrap 4 is new version of Bootstrap.

History of Bootstrap
 It was developed by Mark otto and Jacob thornton in August 9,2011 at
Twitter ,US.
 Firstly its name was Twitter Blueprint, Then renamed as Bootstrap.
 On Jan 31, 2012 Bootstrap 2 was launched. This release added the twelve-
column grid layout and responsive design components.
 On Oct 29,2013 Bootstrap 3 was launched.This release moving to a mobile
first approach .
 At last, on July 27,2016 , Bootstrap 4 Alpha 3 is released.

Features
1. SASS (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets)
 One of the biggest changes in Bootstrap 4 is moving
from Less to Sass,
 Sass is an extension of CSS3 which adds nested rules,
variables, mixins, selector inheritance, and more.
 Sass generates well formatted CSS and makes your
stylesheets easier to organize and maintain.
 Compass, Bourbon, and Susy are open-source CSS
Authoring Framework.

2. Enhanced Grid System
 In Bootstrap 3 there are specific
classes to target an element on
different screen sizes via pixels
but in Bootstrap 4 alpha there is
this new smaller (-sm) tier to
better target mobile devices. This
time it’s in rem and em units
instead of pixels.

3. Dropped Support for IE8
 Bootstrap 4 alpha is drops Internet Explorer 8 support. One of the biggest
problems with IE8 is that it doesn’t support CSS media queries, which play
an important role in implementing responsive design within the
framework.

4. Say Hello to Cards
 Cards are new components in
Boostrap 4 alpha which can be
used to display information as a
page or a container.
 It has replaced wells, panels and
thumbnails. It supports different
kinds of content such as links,
text, images, headers, footers and
many more with a variety of
background colors.

5. Improved Auto-Placement of
Tooltips and Popovers
 Tooltips and popovers help a lot of developers when it comes to ease of
use. Thanks to Tether, a third party library it has improved.
 If you want to use this you can simply include tether.min.js just before
thebootstrap.js.

6. New Class ‘Inverse’ for Tables
 Bootstrap 4 alpha has a new prefix –inverse class that gives a background
to the table itself.

Advantages
 It compiles faster than earlier version because it moves from LESS to SASS.
 New updation, makes yours sites more professional.
 It takes less time to design your page.
 Campatible with all Screen sizes such as for Tablets,Desktop,small and
extra small mobiles.

Disadvantages
 Your website layout is looks similar as others website layout.
 Web –designer becomes jobless.
 Lack of Creativity .
 Due to lack of creativity many visitors don’t take much interest on yours
websites.

Conclusion
 With the coming of bootstrap 4, your websites are compatible with many
different platforms.
 Developer works to reduce the size of CSS file so that your website open in
more short time.
 After some time ,Bootstrap 5 will be here,which completely drop out the
use of IE 9,freeing many front-end developers to design anything without
any problem.

Talk at the final event of Data Fusion Dynamics: A Collaborative UK-Saudi Initiative in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence funded by the British Council UK-Saudi Challenge Fund 2024, Cardiff Metropolitan University, 29th April 2025 https://alandix.com/academic/talks/CMet2025-AI-Changes-Everything/ Is AI just another technology, or does it fundamentally change the way we live and think? Every technology has a direct impact with micro-ethical consequences, some good, some bad. However more profound are the ways in which some technologies reshape the very fabric of society with macro-ethical impacts. The invention of the stirrup revolutionised mounted combat, but as a side effect gave rise to the feudal system, which still shapes politics today. The internal combustion engine offers personal freedom and creates pollution, but has also transformed the nature of urban planning and international trade. When we look at AI the micro-ethical issues, such as bias, are most obvious, but the macro-ethical challenges may be greater. At a micro-ethical level AI has the potential to deepen social, ethnic and gender bias, issues I have warned about since the early 1990s! It is also being used increasingly on the battlefield. However, it also offers amazing opportunities in health and educations, as the recent Nobel prizes for the developers of AlphaFold illustrate. More radically, the need to encode ethics acts as a mirror to surface essential ethical problems and conflicts. At the macro-ethical level, by the early 2000s digital technology had already begun to undermine sovereignty (e.g. gambling), market economics (through network effects and emergent monopolies), and the very meaning of money. Modern AI is the child of big data, big computation and ultimately big business, intensifying the inherent tendency of digital technology to concentrate power. AI is already unravelling the fundamentals of the social, political and economic world around us, but this is a world that needs radical reimagining to overcome the global environmental and human challenges that confront us. Our challenge is whether to let the threads fall as they may, or to use them to weave a better future.
