The document discusses API management and DevOps practices. It describes challenges with a customer's existing release process, including slow development due to VPN use, lack of dependency and version control, and manual steps leading to high downtime costs. The proposed solution implements a CI/CD pipeline for automated testing, approval, and deployment across development, test, QA and production environments, integrated with API management tools for monitoring and operations. This allows local development, centralized version control, and decreases release cycle time and errors.

Kubernetes has been called the "platform of platforms" and the final major evolutionary step of cloud native computing. What's needed to build an API Platform on it? A great developer experience? An API Marketplace for managing all APIs together in one place? Auto build and deploy onto multiple flavors of K8s? Multi-tenancy? SaaS model hosting with multi-tenancy? Team based development? Ability to create new microservices and APIs? Support for sync and async protocols? Analytics? Metering, monitoring, policy enforcement? What else? Are we done? Or will we need to rebuild the platform again on serverless functions?

API breaches are increasing, with over 350 reported publicly since October 2018. The top causes are lack of input validation, rate limiting, data/exception leakage, and authorization and authentication issues. These map to the OWASP API Security Top 10 risks. API-centric architectures expand the attack surface. To address this, security needs to be considered at design time through the API contract, which defines data constraints, authorization policies, logging, and rate limiting. Following best practices like this helps avoid vulnerabilities that are costly to fix later.

[WSO2 Integration Summit San Francisco 2019] The Composable EnterpriseWSO2
This document discusses the growing importance of APIs and integration in enabling composable architectures. It makes three key points:
1) As applications and services become more disaggregated, integration between them is becoming more important but also more challenging due to the large number of endpoints. APIs are helping to address this by acting as the "glue" between systems.
2) Within organizations, APIs are also crucial for enabling internal reconfiguration and flexibility as business needs change. They allow both internal and external capabilities to be delivered as independent services.
3) A cellular model where independent, self-contained "cells" (microservices, functions, etc.) can be composed is emerging as an architecture that supports agility, scal

API Driven Applications - An ecosystem architectureWSO2
1) APIs are driving the development of applications that need to support multiple devices in a heterogeneous environment. Due to this, APIs cannot be changed to support every device and runtime transformations are needed.
2) An API ecosystem includes API discovery, life-cycles, events, analytics, monetization, security, and bringing all of these elements together into a cohesive whole.
3) Ensuring SLAs are met through techniques like throttling and scaling is key to the successful operation of an API business.

Any new digital service being built today also needs to be exposed as an API. This is the core of agile, successful digital businesses. It forces digital organizations to create new APIs while consuming many other APIs in the process, effectively being part of the global API supply chain.
However, many API strategies fail, mostly due to underestimating the full lifecycle of APIs from conceptualization to engineering to production and evolution. Getting optimal ROI from APIs requires understanding the nuances of building APIs and finding the right balance between what you build and reuse. This slide deck discusses:
• How we develop APIs today and commonly noticed problems
• The different types of APIs in an organization and their nuances
• 5 key elements for developing enterprise-grade APIs for the enterprise
• The safest bet for a successful API strategy

[API World 2021 ] - Understanding Cloud Native DeploymentWSO2
Microservices and APIs built for digital transformation products require agile, reliable, and scalable cloud native infrastructure to truly meet customer expectations for a great "always there" user experience. Whether deployed on-premises or hosted in a public cloud, understanding and leveraging the right approach is key to success. This session takes up where the development process leaves off, tracking the standardization of containers and container orchestration for automated deployment, including current and future platform trends WSO2 and others are following.
Infrastructure as Code in Large Scale OrganizationsXebiaLabs
The adoption of tools for the provisioning and automatic configuration of "Infrastructure as Code" (eg Terraform, Cloudformation or Ansible) reduces cost, time, errors, violations and risks when provisioning and configuring the necessary infrastructure so that our software can run .
However, those who have begun to make intensive use of this technology at the business level agree to identify the emergence of a very critical problem regarding the orchestration and governance needs of supply requests such as security, compliance, scalability, integrity and more.
Learn how The Digital.ai DevOps Platform (formerly XebiaLabs DevOps Platform) responds to all these problems and many more, allowing you to continue working with your favorite tools.

The meetup included introductions, a presentation on API security best practices focusing on people, processes, and technology, and an introduction to Anypoint DataGraph. The API security presentation discussed the costs of security breaches, common attack vectors, and the OWASP API security top 10. It emphasized that technology alone cannot mitigate risks and that people and processes must also be established. The DataGraph introduction demonstrated how it can help developers consume data from multiple APIs with a single query.
Implementing API-led Cloud-native apps on OCISven Bernhardt
Presentation held at AIOUG Sangam 2020
Cloud-native is the way new applications should be built today. It doesn’t matter here, if the application is going to be deployed in the Cloud or On-prem. The most important thing is that an application is applicable for getting the most out of the Cloud with respect to efficiency. APIs and Containers are essential building blocks of Cloud-native applications. As Cloud-native apps are driven by APIs, the development of such an app should start with defining the API in an API design-first approach.
Within this session I’ll give further insights into what makes Cloud-native development different from classical app development. Furthermore, we’ll go through the respective development steps (API design, Service development, Deployment to OCI, API exposure) to make the session more practical. For exposing the app to the outside world OCI API Gateway will be used. The development of the Cloud-native app is done using Oracle’s Microservice framework Helidon.
[APIdays INTERFACE 2021] Programming the Cloud through APIsWSO2
We live in a world where many digital services are offered as APIs today. You will find APIs for finance, healthcare, communication, retail, travel and transportation, leisure, real estate, and many more services. These APIs form a large global ecosystem of APIs providing great value for new digital services. For businesses to be able to participate in this ecosystem, they have to be providing their services through the Cloud, in the form of APIs. This workshop discusses what developers should be thinking about when developing and exposing new APIs on the cloud. It will also cover best practices, pitfalls, and security-related matters that will be important for developers and architects who are building APIs on the cloud.
Every enterprise has a multitude of existing systems - including on-premise as well as cloud solutions - that perform critical functions. Integrating data and services across these systems is critical for an enterprise to successfully implement its digital transformation efforts. Therefore, most often than not, enterprise integration is at the heart of any organization’s digital transformation strategy.

Delivering the Modern API: Know what it takesNuwan Dias
Modern businesses prioritize delivering value to customers through experimentation. Transitioning to decentralized microservice architectures provides the agility needed for experimentation. The modern approach to APIs is bottom-up development, giving prominence to API developers. APIs need governance through a control plane and should be composable and scalable for cloud-native applications. API security involves content inspection, identity verification, and pattern analysis. Insights from APIs help evaluate business objectives and alignment.
Following are the slides from by Key Note at APIDays Zurich, 2019. In here I discuss some problems related to agility in centralized API Management architectures and discuss how Microgateways are key to achieving decentralized API Management which can help organizations to become truly agile.

Not So Common Memory Leaks in Java WebinarTier1 app
This SlideShare presentation is from our May webinar, “Not So Common Memory Leaks & How to Fix Them?”, where we explored lesser-known memory leak patterns in Java applications. Unlike typical leaks, subtle issues such as thread local misuse, inner class references, uncached collections, and misbehaving frameworks often go undetected and gradually degrade performance. This deck provides in-depth insights into identifying these hidden leaks using advanced heap analysis and profiling techniques, along with real-world case studies and practical solutions. Ideal for developers and performance engineers aiming to deepen their understanding of Java memory management and improve application stability.
How Valletta helped healthcare SaaS to transform QA and compliance to grow wi...Egor Kaleynik
This case study explores how we partnered with a mid-sized U.S. healthcare SaaS provider to help them scale from a successful pilot phase to supporting over 10,000 users—while meeting strict HIPAA compliance requirements.
Faced with slow, manual testing cycles, frequent regression bugs, and looming audit risks, their growth was at risk. Their existing QA processes couldn’t keep up with the complexity of real-time biometric data handling, and earlier automation attempts had failed due to unreliable tools and fragmented workflows.
We stepped in to deliver a full QA and DevOps transformation. Our team replaced their fragile legacy tests with Testim’s self-healing automation, integrated Postman and OWASP ZAP into Jenkins pipelines for continuous API and security validation, and leveraged AWS Device Farm for real-device, region-specific compliance testing. Custom deployment scripts gave them control over rollouts without relying on heavy CI/CD infrastructure.
The result? Test cycle times were reduced from 3 days to just 8 hours, regression bugs dropped by 40%, and they passed their first HIPAA audit without issue—unlocking faster contract signings and enabling them to expand confidently. More than just a technical upgrade, this project embedded compliance into every phase of development, proving that SaaS providers in regulated industries can scale fast and stay secure.

Exceptional Behaviors: How Frequently Are They Tested? (AST 2025)Andre Hora
Exceptions allow developers to handle error cases expected to occur infrequently. Ideally, good test suites should test both normal and exceptional behaviors to catch more bugs and avoid regressions. While current research analyzes exceptions that propagate to tests, it does not explore other exceptions that do not reach the tests. In this paper, we provide an empirical study to explore how frequently exceptional behaviors are tested in real-world systems. We consider both exceptions that propagate to tests and the ones that do not reach the tests. For this purpose, we run an instrumented version of test suites, monitor their execution, and collect information about the exceptions raised at runtime. We analyze the test suites of 25 Python systems, covering 5,372 executed methods, 17.9M calls, and 1.4M raised exceptions. We find that 21.4% of the executed methods do raise exceptions at runtime. In methods that raise exceptions, on the median, 1 in 10 calls exercise exceptional behaviors. Close to 80% of the methods that raise exceptions do so infrequently, but about 20% raise exceptions more frequently. Finally, we provide implications for researchers and practitioners. We suggest developing novel tools to support exercising exceptional behaviors and refactoring expensive try/except blocks. We also call attention to the fact that exception-raising behaviors are not necessarily “abnormal” or rare.

Explaining GitHub Actions Failures with Large Language Models Challenges, In...ssuserb14185
GitHub Actions (GA) has become the de facto tool that developers use to automate software workflows, seamlessly building, testing, and deploying code. Yet when GA fails, it disrupts development, causing delays and driving up costs. Diagnosing failures becomes especially challenging because error logs are often long, complex and unstructured. Given these difficulties, this study explores the potential of large language models (LLMs) to generate correct, clear, concise, and actionable contextual descriptions (or summaries) for GA failures, focusing on developers’ perceptions of their feasibility and usefulness. Our results show that over 80% of developers rated LLM explanations positively in terms of correctness for simpler/small logs. Overall, our findings suggest that LLMs can feasibly assist developers in understanding common GA errors, thus, potentially reducing manual analysis. However, we also found that improved reasoning abilities are needed to support more complex CI/CD scenarios. For instance, less experienced developers tend to be more positive on the described context, while seasoned developers prefer concise summaries. Overall, our work offers key insights for researchers enhancing LLM reasoning, particularly in adapting explanations to user expertise.
