Template Name: SM_2_col Template Date: 1997_01_13 Alt= to hide template information Alt+ to display template information ROLL OVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE (ROPS) ROPS, the operators seat, the seat belts and all mounting, accessories and wiring inside the operators protective system must be carefully checked after a tractor accident and all parts with damage must be replaced immediately. DO NOT TRY TO MAKE REPAIRS OR WELD THE ROPS. Safety Rules: 1. Do not make modifications to the ROPS. Example, welding an accessory to the ROPS or drilling a hole in the ROPS. 2. Special fasteners are used to install the operator protective parts. Replacement parts must be the same as given in the Parts Catalog. WARNING: Lower all attachments to the ground or use stands to safely support the attachments before you do any maintenance or service. M496 WARNING: Hydraulic oil or diesel fuel leaking under pressure can penetrate the skin and cause infection or other injury. To Prevent Personal Injury: Relieve all pressure, before disconnecting fluid lines. Before applying pressure, make sure all connections are tight and components are in good condition. Never use your hand to check for suspected leaks under pressure. Use a piece of cardboard or wood for this purpose. If injured by leaking fluid, see your doctor immediately. SM171A WARNING: When removing hardened pins such as a pivot pin, or a hardened shaft, use a soft head (brass or bronze) hammer or use a driver made from brass or bronze and a steel head hammer. Attach the load rotor to an overhead hoist. IMPORTANT: The engine lifting brackets are for vertical lifting only. Any lifting device that is not vertically in-line with the lifting brackets can damage the engine rocker arm cover or cause bracket failure. STEP 37 MK99J037 If removed after the engine was removed, install the three large flat washers on the front and rear (shown) rubber isolators. STEP 38 MK99J039 Install the bolts and small flat washers in the rear engine mounts. Lift the engine until the oil pan will clear the front frame and engine mount crossmember. Move the engine rearward into the tractor until it is positioned above the engine mounting brackets. STEP 39 MK99J038 Use the rear mounting bolts as guides and slowly lower the engine on the front frame engine mounting brackets.

Check the operation of the A/ C system. Shut off the engine and if necessary, add coolant to the deaeration tank. Check the engine oil level (1). IMPORTANT: After the engine has been run at the normal operating temperature and allowed to cool, check the coolant level at the recovery reservoir (2) only. Do not remove the deaeration tank cap. If the air filter service monitor illuminates with frequency, or after the primary filter has been serviced, check the following items for service: 1. Secondary filter element. 2. Restriction indicator switch. 3. Aspirated strata tube. 4. Aspirator safety valve. 5. Grille screen. AIR FILTER ELEMENTS The tractor is equipped with a two-stage air filter system consisting of a primary (outer) filter and a secondary (inner) filter. MK99K083 The primary filter (1) is a high capacity filter designed to provide optimum protection to the engine. The primary filter can be cleaned as required between filter changes. See the Operators Manual for regularly scheduled filter servicing or replacement intervals. The secondary (inner) filter (2) gives extra protection to the engine if there is damage to the primary filter. The secondary filter cannot be cleaned and must be replaced if dirty. See the Operators manual for regularly scheduled replacement intervals. 12

STEP 2 MK98N142 Open the hood. STEP 3 MK99K072 Release the four air cleaner cover latches. STEP 4 MK99K073 Remove the air cleaner cover. STEP 5 MK99K069 Pull the primary filter from the air cleaner. STEP 6 MK99K070 Clean or vacuum any dirt or debri from the air cleaner housing.

Move the nozzle up and down the length of the element while turning the element. IMPORTANT: The nozzle pressure must not be more than 35 PSI (242 kPa). STEP 11 MK99K087 Repeat Step 9 to check the clean filter for damage or holes. Replace the filter if damaged. RESTRICTION INDICATOR SWITCH REMOVAL AND TEST STEP 12 MK00D308 Remove the wire harness connector from the switch. Set the multimeter to ohms or continuity testing. The multimeter should show an open circuit. If the multimeter shows a closed circuit, replace the switch and proceed to Step 40. STEP 15 MK00D304 Connect the switch to a vacuum hand pump as shown. Use the hand pump to slowly and carefully apply vacuum to the switch. The multimeter should show a closed circuit at approximately 690 kg/m2 (2 in Hg) of vacuum. If the switch does not close at 690 kg/m2 (2 in Hg) of vacuum or closes before 460 Kg/m2 (1.5 in Hg) of vacuum replace the switch and proceed to Step 40. If the switch closes at approximately 690 Kg/m2 (2 in Hg) of vacuum proceed to Step 16. AIR CLEANER HOUSING REMOVAL STEP 16 MK00D309 Loosen the turbo inlet elbow clamp. STEP 17 MK00D310 Loosen the air cleaner outlet elbow clamp. Remove the air cleaner outlet elbow from the air cleaner.

If the dirt or debri in the air passages is dry, clean the tube with compressed air directed into the inlet ends of the tubes. Move the nozzle in a circular motion on the vanes of each tube. IMPORTANT: The air nozzle pressure must not be more than 242 kPa (35 psi) or the vanes in the tubes could be damaged. STEP 23 MK00D270 MK00D323 Vacuum or wipe the dirt from inside the air cleaner housing. STEP 24 MK00D361 Place the aspirated strata tube in a solution of Case IH Filter Element Cleaner (P/N A40910) and water. Mix 57 grams (2 ounces) of cleaner for each 4 liters (1 gallon) of water. The water temperature should be 38 to 66° C(100 to 150° F).

STEP 27 MK00D273 Loosen the hose clamp and remove the valve from the aspirator tube. STEP 28 MK00D274 Loosen the hose clamp and remove the coupler from the valve. STEP 29 MK00D275 To check the aspirator safety valve for correct operation, turn the valve outlet 180° up and down several times. The gate inside the valve should move freely from open to closed and back to open. STEP 30 To clean the valve follow the same procedure as in Steps 24 and 25. Repeat Step 29 after cleaning.

STEP 32 MK00D273 Install the valve and coupler on the aspirator tube. Turn the valve so that the arrow on the valve seam is on top and points towards the muffler. Tighten the hose clamp. STEP 33 MK00D272 Install the aspirator hose on the valve and tighten the hose clamp.
