1. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device in order to position final drive (1) . The weight
of final drive (1) is approximately 435 kg (960 lb).
2. Remove bolts (2) .

3. Use Tooling (B) and suitable pry bar to remove flange (3) . Remove o-ring (4) from flange
(3) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
4. Use Tooling (C) , (D) , (E) , and (F) to compress spring retainer (6) .
5. Remove retaining ring (5) .
6. Remove spring retainer (6) .
7. Remove springs (7) and piston (8) . Remove gear (12) (not shown) .

8. Remove discs (9) and plates (10) .
9. Remove seals (11) and gear (12) .

10. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to reposition final drive (1) . The weight of
final (1) is approximately 435kg (960 lb).
11. Remove bolts (14) . Use a suitable lifting device to remove cover (13) .
12. The weight of cover (13) is approximately 73 kg (160 lb).

13. Remove o-ring (15) from cover (13) .
14. Remove gear assembly (16) .

15. Remove gear (18) from shaft (17) .
16. Remove gear assembly (19) .

17. Remove gear (20) .
18. Use Tooling (G) to remove bolts (21) . Bolts (21) may need the temperature raised for
assisting removal. (Note: disregard bolts (21) .)
19. Remove housing (22) .

20. Remove gear assemblies (23) .
21. Compress retaining ring (25) in order to remove plate assembly (24) .
22. Use Tooling (C) , (H, and) (J) in order to separate housing (26) from hub (27) .

23. Remove race (28) and use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to lift off housing (26) .
The housing (26) weighs approximately 113 kg (250 lb)
24. Remove seal (29) and bearing assemblies (30) .

25. Remove race (32) and seal (31) .

1. Install spacer (33) . Use Tooling (N) to install seal (31) . Install race (32) .
2. Use Tooling (N) to install seal (29) . Install bearing assemblies (30) .

3. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to position housing (26) onto the hub (27) .
The weight of housing (26) is approximately 113 kg (250 lb). Install race (28) .
4. Compress retaining ring (25) in order to install plate assembly (24) .

5. Install gear assemblies (23) .
6. Install housing (22) .
7. Install bolts (21) . Use Tooling (G) and tighten bolts (21) to a torque of 1440 N·m (1062 lb
ft).

8. Install gear (20) .
9. Install gear assembly (19) .

10. Position shaft (17) in gear assembly (16) and install gear (18) .
11. Install gear assembly (16) .

12. Install o-ring (15) onto cover (13) .
13. Use Tooling (L) to position cover (13) .
14. Apply Tooling (M) to bolts (14) and install. Tighten bolts (14) to a torque of 190 N·m (140
lb ft).

15. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to reposition final drive (1) . The weight of
final drive (1) is approximately 435 kg (960 lb).
16. Install gear (12) ( not shown ) and seals (11) .

17. Install discs (9) and plates (10) .
18. Install piston (8) and springs (7) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
19. Position spring retainer (6) and retaining ring (5) .
20. Use Tooling (C) , (D) , (E) , and (F) to compress spring retainer (6) in order to install
retaining ring (5) .

21. Install O-ring (4) . Use Tooling (B) to position flange (3) .
22. Install bolts (2) . Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 215 N·m (159 lb ft).

Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies, fittings and ports so that all the components
can be reassembled in the original configuration. Plug all of the hose assemblies and cap all of the
fittings. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the
system.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers

before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and
the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil
filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool
enough to touch with your bare hand.

1. Remove bolts (1) and cover (2).
2. Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Seperate".
3. Remove the cap from the hydraulic tank. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach
an air supply hose to Tooling (A). Apply 276 to 414 kPa (40 to 60 psi) of air. This
procedure will pull vacuum on the hydraulic system.
4. Disconnect hose assemblies (3) and remove fitting (4).
