Start By:
a. Remove the Hydraulic fan Drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive -
Remove and Install".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, thoroughly
clean the exterior of the components. This procedure will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair

of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove bolt (2) and sensor (1).
2. Remove bolts (3). Remove retainer (4).

3. Remove O-ring seal (5) and drive flange (6).
4. Firmly secure drive flange (6) with a suitable vise. Protect drive flange (6) in order to
prevent damage during clamping.
5. Use a hammer and a chisel in order to break sleeve (6A). Use extreme care to prevent
damage to drive flange (6).

6. Remove bolts (7). Separate cover assembly (8) from case (9).
7. Position cover assembly (8) on the opposite side.
8. Remove O-ring seal (10) from cover assembly (8).
9. Use a suitable press in order to separate cover assembly (8) and clutch housing assembly
(11).

10. Remove lip seal (12). Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (13). Use a suitable
press in order to remove bearing (14).
Note: Note the order of all the components in the clutch assembly.
11. Remove retaining ring (15). Remove retaining plate (16). Remove discs and clutch plates
(17).

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
12. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to reposition piston (18). Use Tooling (C) in order to
remove retaining ring (19). Remove piston (18).
13. Remove seal (20) from piston (18).
14. Remove spring (21) from clutch housing assembly (11).

15. Remove seal rings (22) from shaft assembly (24). Use Tooling (D) in order to remove
retaining ring (23).
16. Use a suitable press in order to remove shaft assembly (24) from case (9).
17. Remove seal (25) from shaft assembly (24).

18. Firmly secure shaft assembly (24) with a suitable vise. Protect shaft assembly (24) in order
to prevent damage during clamping.
19. Use a hammer and a chisel in order to break sleeve (30). Use extreme care to prevent
damage to shaft assembly (24).
20. Remove tube assembly (26) from case (9).
21. Remove lip seal (27) from case (9).

22. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (28). Use a suitable press in order to
remove bearing (29) from case (9).

Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the fan drive (direct drive).
1. Remove bolt (8), plate (7), bearing assembly (5), hub assembly (4), spacer (3), and bearing
assembly (2) from bracket assembly (1) .
2. Remove spring pin (6) from plate (7) .

Note: Caution is required while handling the lip seals. The lip seals can be damaged if objects or
cleaning fluids contact the sealing surface.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts except the lip
seals with cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to
dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If
any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the
components, if necessary.

1. Use a suitable press to install bearing (29) into case (9) . Use Tooling (A) in order to install
retaining ring (28) .
Note: Caution is required while handling the lip seals. The lip seals can be damaged if
objects or cleaning fluids contact the sealing surface.
2. Apply Tooling (E) to the outside diameter of lip seal (27) . Carefully install lip seal (27) into
case (9) .

3. Install seal (25) onto shaft assembly (24) .
4. Apply Tooling (F) to the full diameter of the shoulder on shaft assembly (24) . Position new
sleeve (30) on shaft assembly (24) . The external chamfer on sleeve (30) will be on top. Use
Tooling (G) and a suitable press in order to install sleeve (30) . Remove excess Tooling (F) .

5. Position tube assembly (26) into case (9) .
6. Position case (9) and tube assembly (26) onto shaft assembly (24) .
7. Use a suitable press and a suitable driver to press shaft assembly (24) through the bearing
and through tube assembly (26) .
8. Use Tooling (D) in order to install retaining ring (23) . Install seal rings (22) onto shaft
assembly (24) .
9. Install spring (21) on clutch housing assembly (11) .

10. Install seal (20) on piston (18) .
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
11. Install piston (18) . Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to position piston (18) .
Use Tooling (C) in order to install retaining ring (19) . Carefully release the tension on
Tooling (B) .

12. Install clutch plates (16) and discs (17) . Install retaining ring (15) .
13. Position cover assembly (8) onto clutch housing assembly (11) .
Note: Make sure that the splines of cover assembly (8) fully engage all of the clutch plates
and discs in the clutch assembly.

Note: Caution is required while handling the lip seals. The lip seals can be damaged if
objects or cleaning fluids contact the sealing surface.
14. Use a suitable press in order to install bearing (14) . Use Tooling (A) in order to install
retaining ring (13) . Install lip seal (12) .
15. Position cover assembly (8) on the opposite side.
16. Install O-ring seal (10) on cover assembly (8) .

17. Position cover assembly (8) onto case (9) . Install bolts (7) and tighten bolts (7) to a
minimum torque of 18 N·m (13 lb ft) up to a maximum torque of 31 N·m (23 lb ft).
18. Apply Tooling (F) to the full diameter of the shoulder on drive flange (6) . Position new
sleeve (6A) on drive flange (6) . The external chamfer on sleeve (6A) will be on top. Use
Tooling (H) and a suitable press in order to install sleeve (6A) . Remove excess Tooling
(F) .

19. Install drive flange (6) and O-ring seal (5) .
20. Install retainer (4) . Tighten retainer (4) to a minimum torque of 610 N·m (450 lb ft) up to a
maximum torque of 750 N·m (550 lb ft). After achieving the torque range, overtighten
retainer (4) as needed in order to align the next position for locking screws (3) .
21. Install locking screws (3) and tighten locking screws (3) to a minimum torque of 7 N·m (62
lb in) to a maximum torque of 10 N·m (89 lb in).

22. Position sensor (1) . Install bolt (2) .
End By: Install the fan clutch. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Clutch - Install".

A - Loctite 242 -
1. Install spring pin (6) into plate (7) .
2. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of bolt (8). Install bearing assembly (2), spacer (3), hub
assembly (4), bearing assembly (5), plate (7), and bolt (8) onto bracket assembly (1).
Tighten bolt (8) to a torque of 115 ± 15 N·m (85 ± 11 lb ft).

1. Remove bolts (1) and sheet assembly (2). Remove bolts (3) and sheet assembly (4) .
2. Remove step (6), sheet assembly (5), sheet assembly (7), and sheet assembly (8) .
Note: Open the hoods to the FULLY OPEN position.
3. Disconnect support assembly (9). Use suitable cribbing to support the support assembly (9) .
4. Remove support assembly (10) and support assembly (11) .
