1. Remove bolts (1) and housing (2) .
2. Remove cartridge assembly (4) and O-ring seal (3) .
3. Remove O-ring seal (6), backup ring (5), and seal (7) .

5. Remove O-ring seals (10), backup ring (11), and plate (12) .
6. Remove housing (13) and rotor (14) .

Vane Pump (Steering) - Install

Installation Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
1. Lubricate O-ring seal (16) with lubricant that is being sealed. Install O-ring seal (16). Install
switch assembly (15). Tighten the lower body of switch assembly (15) to the torque of 20 ±
2 N·m (15 ± 1 lb ft). Orient the upper body of switch assembly (15) so the arrow points in
the direction of the flow.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
2. Install O-ring seal (11). Position spring (13) and valve (12). Install body (14).
3. Install O-ring seals (7). Position block (8). Position valve assembly (9). Install bolts (10).
Install O-ring seals (6).

4. Use two people to position vane pump (2). The weight of vane pump (2) is approximately
36 kg (80 lb). Install nuts (5). Connect harness assembly (4). Connect hose assembly (1).
Connect elbow (3).
End By: Install the secondary steering pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering
Pump (Secondary) - Install".

Start By:
A. Remove the secondary steering pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Vane Pump
(Steering) - Remove ".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for
installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this
helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service
Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Remove bolts (1), (2), and (3).
Note: Remove plug (7) to drain oil from the elbow.
2. Disconnect hose assembly (4). Disconnect harness assembly (5). Remove elbow assembly
(6) .

3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to implement pump (9). The weight of
implement pump (9) is approximately 60 kg (130 lb). Remove nuts (8). Remove implement
pump (9) .
4. Remove O-ring seal (10) .
