Start By:
A. Remove the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Torque Converter -
Remove ".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.

1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the torque converter. The weight of the
torque converter is approximately 124 kg (275 lb). Support shaft (1) with suitable cribbing.
Remove retaining ring (2) .
2. Remove nuts (3). Remove the torque converter.

3. Position the torque converter, as shown. Remove bolts (4). Use Tooling (B) to remove
retaining ring (6). Remove support (5) .
4. Remove sleeve (7) from support (5) .
5. Use Tooling (B) to remove retaining ring (8) .

6. Use suitable pry bars to remove ring carrier (9) and bearing carrier (10). Separate seal ring
(12) from ring carrier (9). Remove bearing (11) from bearing carrier (10) .
7. Remove bolts (14) and (13). Remove plate (15) .

8. Install Tooling (C). Remove impeller (16) and hub assembly (17) as one unit. Remove O-
ring seal (18). Separate hub assembly (17) from impeller (16) .
9. Remove retainer (22), race (21), bearing (23), and seal ring (20). Remove carrier assembly
(19) and stator (24) as one unit.

10. Remove retaining ring (25). Remove plate (26) .
11. Remove rollers (28). Remove springs (29). Remove carrier assembly (27) .

12. Remove bearing (30) .
13. Remove retaining ring (32). Remove plate (31) .

14. Use a suitable press in order to position freewheel cam (34) away from retaining ring (33).
Remove retaining ring (33). Remove freewheel cam (34) .
15. Remove bearing (37), race (36), and retainer (35) .
16. Remove hub (38) and turbine (39) from housing (40) .

17. Remove race (41) from hub (38) .
18. Position hub (38) and turbine (39) on suitable cribbing. Remove bolts (42). Remove ring
(43) .

19. Remove hub (38) from turbine (39) .
20. Remove bearing (44), race (45) , and retainer (46) from housing (40) .
21. Remove bolts (47) from housing (40) .

22. Install Tooling (C). Remove flange assembly (48) .
23. Use Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing (49) from housing (40) .

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

1. Lower the temperature of bearing (49) and install bearing (49) .
2. Position flange assembly (48) on housing (40). Install bolts (47). Tighten bolts (47) to a
torque of 120 ± 15 N·m (88 ± 11 lb ft).
3. Install retainer (46), race (45), and bearing (44) into housing (40) .

4. Install hub (38) on turbine (39). Install ring (43). Install bolts (42). Tighten bolts (42) to a
torque of 120 ± 15 N·m (88 ± 11 lb ft).
5. Apply Tooling (E) to race (41). Install race (41) into hub (38) .

Note: Be sure that Dowel (Z) aligns with the slot in race (21) .
6. Install hub (38) and turbine (39) into housing (40) .
7. Install retainer (35), race (36), and bearing (37) .

8. Install retaining ring (33). Use a suitable press to install freewheel cam (34) into stator (24)
until freewheel cam (34) contacts retaining ring (33) .
9. Install plate (31). Install retaining ring (32).

10. Lower temperature of bearing (30) and using a suitable press install bearing (30) .
11. Install carrier assembly (27). Install rollers (28). Install springs (29) .
Note: Assemble the spring with the maximum number of loops toward outside.

12. Install plate (26). Install retaining ring (25).
13. Install carrier assembly (19) and stator (24) as one unit. Install bearing (23). Install seal ring
(20) .

14. Apply Tooling (E) to race (21) and retainer (22). Position race (21) and retainer (22) on hub
(17) .
Note: Be sure that Dowel (Z) aligns with the slot in race (21) .
15. Install hub assembly (17) .

16. Install impeller (16) on hub assembly (17). Install O-ring seal (18). Position plate (15).
Install bolt (13). Tighten bolt (13) to a torque of 50 ± 7 N·m (37 ± 5 lb ft). Install bolt (14).
Tighten bolt (14) to a torque of 120 ± 15 N·m (88 ± 11 lb ft).
17. Install bearing (11) into bearing carrier (10). Install seal ring (12) to ring carrier (9). Install
bearing carrier (10) and bearing (11) to hub assembly (17).
Note: Be sure that the dowel in the hub aligns with the slot in the bearing.
18. Install ring carrier (9) and seal ring (12) to hub (17). Use Tooling (B) in order to install
retaining ring (8) .

19. Use a suitable press in order to install sleeve (7) into support (5) .
20. Install support (5). Use Tooling (B) in order to install retaining ring (6). Install bolts (4) to
the torque converter.

21. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the torque converter. The weight of the
torque converter is approximately 124 kg (275 lb). Position the torque converter. Install
bolts (3). Install retaining ring (2) to shaft (1) .
End By: Install the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Torque Converter -
Install ".

Note: Shaft (13) must be supported with suitable cribbing.
1. Position planetary assembly (7) onto suitable cribbing.
2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (9). The weight of
torque converter (9) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb). Install torque converter (9) and nuts
(10) .
3. Install washer (12) and retaining ring (11) .

4. Turn over planetary assembly (7). Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to
planetary assembly (7). The weight of planetary assembly (7) is approximately 381 kg (840
lb). Install planetary assembly (7) and bolts (6) .
5. Install guard (5). Remove Tooling (A) and install two of bolts (6) .
6. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to planetary assembly (4). The weight of
planetary assembly (4) is approximately 533 kg (1175 lb). Use Tooling (C), Tooling (A),
and the suitable lifting device to position planetary assembly (4) .

7. Install bolts (2). Install O-ring seal (3) .
8. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to transmission assembly (1). The weight of
transmission assembly (1) is approximately 2132 kg (4700 lb). Remove transmission
assembly (1) from Tooling (B) .
End By: Connect the transmission from the transfer gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Transmission from Transfer Gears - Connect".

A. Remove the cushion-hitch pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump
(Cushion-Hitch) - Remove".
B. Remove the speed sensor group from the transmission. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Speed Sensor (Transmission) - Remove".
C. Remove the power train guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Guard
(Transmission) - Remove and Install".
1. Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to
Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil - Change".

2. Remove clips (2). Disconnect hose assembly (1) .
3. Disconnect harness assembly (3). Remove support assembly (4) and the floodlight as a unit.

4. Remove bolts (5). Use Tooling (A) to remove cover (6) and shims (7) (not shown).
5. Remove gear assembly (8). Use two people to remove shaft (9). The weight of shaft (9) is
approximately 25 kg (55 lb).

6. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to transfer gear group (13). The weight of
transfer gear group (13) is approximately 238 kg (525 lb).
7. Support tube assembly (14) with a suitable device. Remove bolts (15), bolts (10), and bolts
(11). Remove transfer gear group (13). Remove O-ring seals (16) and (12) (not shown).
