2. Remove clip (2).
3. Clamp and disconnect tubes (3). Disconnect harness assembly (4).
4. Remove strap assemblies (5) and diesel exhaust fluid tank (6).
Installation Procedure
1. Install diesel exhaust fluid tank (6) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Tighten locknuts on straps assemblies (5) to a torque of 12 ± 2 N·m (106 ± 18 lb in).

Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump - Remove and Install
SMCS - 108J-010
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1).

2. Remove bolt (2) and hose clamp (3).
3. Remove bolt (4) and hose clamp (5).
4. Disconnect harness assembly (6). Remove cable strap (7).

5. Disconnect hoses (8).
6. Remove cable straps (9). Disconnect harness assemblies (10).
7. Remove bolts (11).

9. Disconnect harness assemblies (13) and hose assemblies (14).
10. Remove bolts (14a) and bracket (15).

13. Remove strap cables (19). Remove bolts (18) and bracket (20).
14. Remove bolts (21) and diesel exhaust fluid pump (22).

Note: Place identification marks on DEF pump coolant connectors (23) and DEF pump
connectors (24) for installation purposes. DEF pump coolant connectors (23) and DEF
pump connectors (24) are not interchangeable.
15. Remove DEF pump coolant connectors (23) and DEF pump connectors (24) from diesel
exhaust fluid pump (22).
16. Remove filter (25).
1. Install diesel exhaust fluid pump (22) in the reverse order of removal.
a. DEF pump connectors (24) to a torque of 4.5 ± 0.5 N·m (40± 4 lb in).
b. Tighten DEF pump coolant connectors (23) to a torque of 5.5 ± 0.5 N·m
(48 ± 4 lb in).
c. Tighten cover (20) to a torque of 20 ± 5 N·m (177 ± 44 lb in).
d. Tighten bolts (21) to a torque of 19 ± 2 N·m (168 ± 18 lb in).
e. Tighten bolts (16), (17) and (18) to a torque of 4 ± 0.7 N·m (35 ± 6 lb in).

1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and cap with Tooling (A). Disconnect hose assembly (2).

2. Disconnect harness assembly (4). Remove bolts (3) and remove diesel exhaust fluid injector
(5).
3. Remove gasket (6). Remove seal (7) from diesel exhaust fluid injector (5).
1. Install diesel exhaust fluid injector (5) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Replace gasket (6) and seal (7).
b. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of
5 ± 0.5 N·m (44 ± 4 lb in).
c. Retorque bolts (3) and turn an additional 90° ± 5°.

Electronic Control (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) - Remove and

Removal Procedure
Note: Use locking tabs (1) to remove and install harness assemblies (2). Pull out locking
tabs (1) to remove harness assemblies (2). Push in locking tabs (1) to install harness
assemblies (2).
1. Disconnect harness assemblies (2) and remove bolts (4). Remove electronic control (3).
1. Install electronic control (3) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 10 ± 2 N·m (89 ± 18 lb in).

Solenoid Valve (DEF Heater Coolant) - Remove and Install
SMCS - 5479-CLT
Removal Procedure
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.
At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The
radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or
steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.
Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only
when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough
to touch with your bare hand.
Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the
hose can come off causing burns.
Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with
skin and eyes.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Disconnect harness assembly (1). Disconnect tubes (2).
2. Remove bolts (4) and remove solenoid valve (3).
1. Install solenoid valve (3) in the reverse order of removal.

Solenoid Valve (ARD Fuel) - Remove and Install
SMCS - 5479-010
Removal Procedure (Pilot)
Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the
following procedures.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can
cause a fire.
Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the
fuel system.
Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when
changing fuel filters.

1. Use the following steps to remove solenoid valve assembly (1).
2. Remove nut (6) and washer (5).
3. Remove solenoid (4)
4. Remove cartridge assembly (3) and O-ring seals (2).
1. Install solenoid valve assembly (1) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Tighten cartridge assembly (3) to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft).
b. Tighten nut (6) to a torque of 20 ± 2.5 N·m (177 ± 22 lb in).
