A. Separate the torque converter from the transmission. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Torque Converter - Separate".

1. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto cover (2). The weight of cover (2) is
approximately 159 kg (350 lb). Remove bolts (1) and remove cover (2) .
2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto the torque converter assembly. The
weight of the torque converter assembly is approximately 75 kg (165 lb). Place torque
converter assembly on a bench and remove bolts (3) .

3. Install Tooling (B) and remove the impeller and carrier assembly (4). The weight of
impeller and carrier assembly (4) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).
4. Use Tooling (C) and remove retaining ring (6). Remove retaining ring (5) and stator (7) .

5. If necessary, use a suitable press and Tooling (D) in order to remove adapter (8) from stator
(7) .
6. Use Tooling (C) in order to remove retaining ring (11) from carrier assembly (12). Remove
spacer (10) .
7. Use a soft faced hammer in order to remove carrier assembly (12) from impeller (9) .

8. Remove retaining ring (13) from carrier assembly (12) .
9. Remove bolts (14) and remove gear (15) from impeller (16) .
10. Use a suitable press and Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing (17) from impeller (16) .

11. Remove retaining ring (18) and cover (19) .
12. Remove O-ring seal (20). Use Tooling (C) and remove retaining ring (21) .

13. Remove spacer (22) .
14. Use a suitable press and Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing (24) from housing (23) .
15. Remove bolts (25) and hub assembly (26) from turbine (27) .

1. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto cover (2). The weight of cover (2) is

4. Use Tooling (C) in order to remove retaining ring (5). Remove stator (14) .

5. Remove retaining ring (6) and plate (7) .
6. Remove washer (8) .
7. Remove race (9) .
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.

8. Remove springs (10) and rollers (11) .
9. Remove retaining ring (12) and washer (13) .

10. If necessary, raise the temperature of stator (14) and cam (15). Use a suitable press and
Tooling (D) in order to remove cam (15) .

12. Use a soft faced hammer in order to remove carrier assembly (17) from impeller (18) .
13. Remove retaining ring (19) from carrier assembly (17) .
14. Remove bolts (20). Remove gear (21) from impeller (18) .

15. Use a suitable press and Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing (22) .
16. Remove retaining ring (23) and cover (24) .
17. Use Tooling (C) and remove retaining ring (25). Remove O-ring seal (26) .

19. Use a suitable press and Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing (28) from housing (29) .

20. Remove bolts (30). Remove hub (31) from turbine (32) .

1. Lower the temperature of bearing (28) and install bearing (28) into housing (29) .

2. Install bolts (30). Tighten bolts (30) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).
3. Lower the temperature of hub assembly (31) and install hub (31) into housing (29) .

Note: Check the O-ring seal for wear or for damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seal.
4. Install a new O-ring seal (26). Install spacer (27). Use Tooling (C) and install retaining ring
(25) .
5. Position cover (24) and install retaining ring (23) .
6. Lower the temperature of bearing (22) and install bearing (22) .

7. Install gear (21) onto impeller (18). Install bolts (20). Tighten bolts (20) to a torque of 105 ±
15 N·m (77 ± 11 lb ft).
8. Install retaining ring (19) onto carrier assembly (17) .

9. Use a soft faced hammer and install carrier assembly (17) .
10. Install spacer (16) .
11. Install race (9) .

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
12. Install rollers (11) and springs (10). Install springs (10) with the maximum number of loops
toward the outside diameter of the cam.
13. Install washer (13) and retaining ring (12) .

14. Install washer (8) .
15. Install plate (7) and install retaining ring (6) .
16. Install stator (14) onto carrier assembly (17). Use Tooling (C) and install retaining ring (5) .
