- 2. THE HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS In the Middle ages the time before Christmas used to be a time of fasting. Christians looked forward to the Midnight on Christmas Eve which marked the transition to feasting. The word Christmas originates from the English term Cristes Maesse, meaning "Christ’s Mass".
- 3. THE HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS Christmas became widely observed after Emperor Constantine declared Christianity as Roman Empire's religion. Western Christians officially began celebrating 25 December as the birth of Jesus in 336 AD.
