In Greece, Christmas is celebrated on December 24th with traditions like children going door-to-door singing carols and poems about the holiday in exchange for fruits and cookies. Unlike other places, Greeks do not have Christmas trees but instead make wooden sailboat models to hang ornaments on. Gifts are given on New Year's Day by Saint Basil instead of Santa Claus, and the day is marked by a special bread called vassilopita.

Their customs are part of centuries-old traditions that are revived every year in the heat of the celebrations for the birth of Jesus. Traditions On December 24, the day of Christmas Eve, all children wake up in the morning ready and excited to start a special day.House by house they take their calandas, songs and poems that allude to the Festivities, and they are accompanied with the sound of trigonas, a triangle of steel that is tinkled with the help of a wand of the same material. In the homes, they receive them with fruits and typical desserts known as kourabiédes, very popular sugary cookies.

In compensation, an amazing wooden model is made in the shape of sailboats and there hang the traditional balls that we all come in the snowy pines. Another difference is that nothing has to do with Christmas with Santa Claus, and therefore no gifts are distribute. ●It is only on January 1 that the gifts arrive, but it is with San Basilio.
