you are expected to:

scenarios;
 differentiate biases from prejudices

1. Was there a time in your
life when you caught
yourself prejudging
others?
2. Do you consider yourself
judgmental as well?
How will you judge these images?
Do you believe that
these images show
fairness and equality?
What made you say
that?
Define prejudice based on the
activities?
Prejudices and
Biases
Prejudice
This feeling may be translated into
action by discriminating against the
person or members of the target group.
It is a preconceived opinion or
feeling toward a person based
solely on their affiliation with a
group.
Direct and
Indirect Speech
An individual may be prejudiced
against others based on factors such as
race, age, gender, sexual orientation,
class status, religion, nationality, and
amongst other things.
a.) Assuming someone is gay
because of the way he acts.
*Because the person with feminine acts is
assumed/thought that he’s a gay
Bias
To be truly biased means to lack a
neutral viewpoint on particular topic.
Somewhere along the line, bias took on
a negative connotation.
It is a tendency to lean in a certain
direction, either in favor of or against
a particular thing.
If you're biased toward something,
then you lean favorably toward it;
you tend to think positively of it.
Meanwhile, if you're biased against
something, then you lean negatively
against it; you tend
to think poorly of it.
a.) In other Christian sects, the
preacher position is only given
to males and not to females
*Males are given more
power or authority than
females.

Differentiate biases from
prejudices based on your
understanding?
Prejudice
It is a preconceived opinion or
feeling toward a person based
solely on their affiliation with a
group.
Bias
It is a tendency to lean in a certain
direction, either in favor of or against
a particular thing.
To avoid misunderstanding and argument.
Bias is a personal will and choice while
prejudice is a belief that a person grew up with
just like our differences with gender, religion
and nationality. Prejudice isn't suppose to cause
argument or misunderstanding because it's
given and understandable that we all grew up in
different families, society and beliefs that is
applied since day 1 that cannot be change. Being
bias always cause arguments for its unfair
judgement.
Why is it important to know and
differentiate bias and prejudice
in the society?
Prejudice and bias can affect
people’s opportunities, their social
resources, self-worth and
motivation, and their engagement
with wider society.
Some groups are manifestly unequal: they
are poorer, less well educated, have had
fewer opportunities, and visibly have
lower occupational positions, worse health
or engage in more crime.
On the other hand, people’s
knowledge is often incomplete or
wrong, and they may also
inappropriately generalize their
knowledge, resulting in bias and
prejudice.
Consequently, establishing,
promoting and sustaining
equality and human rights
depends on understanding
how people make sense of
and apply these concepts in
their everyday lives.
It is important to
distinguish awareness of
group differences from
bias and prejudice.
