Cleansing and Care needs for Face
• The Cleansing and Care of face are, removal of facial make-
up, surface, oil, dead cells and crusts. Although water is good
and cheap cleansing agent but it is ineffective on its own
against oils. Soaps can emulsify oils and therefore, soap and
water can effectively remove oils.
•But disadvantage of this combination are: It may remove too
much oil from skin surface leaving it rough and dry
16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 2
A cleaning cream should have the following
properties
• It should be stable and should have a good appearance.
• It should soften on application to the skin.
• It should spread easily without dragging.
• During application it should not have oily or greasy feel.
• After evaporation of water , the cream residue should not become
viscous.
• Its physical action should be that of flushing on the skin and pore
opening rather than absorption.
• A thin emollient film should remain on the skin after its use.

MASCARA
• Mascara is a cosmetic commonly used to enhance the eyelashes. It may
darken, thicken, lengthen, and/or define the eyelashes.
• Normally in one of three forms—liquid, cake, or cream—the modern mascara
product has various formulas; however, most contain the same basic
components of pigments, oils, waxes, and preservatives
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MASCARA
1)Water soluble Mascaras get easily smudged/ flaked & are not long wearing.
They can be easily removed with any basic makeup remover.
2) Water proof Mascaras don’t get smudged & are long staying. They are the
best for summers & Monsoons. They are hard to remove with ordinary
removers and needs special oil- based makeup removers. These are highly
processed formulas which stay intact on eyes for long hours
16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 11
CLASSIFICATION OF MASCARA BASED ON THEIR STATE
1) Powder Mascara:
• Powder Mascara is very different from wet and dry mascara. You add
a few drops of water into it and use it with a wand.
• The mascara sets to give a false eyelash kind of a finish.
2) Cream Mascara:
• Creamy Mascara provides volume to thin and sparse eyelashes and
adds depth to the eyes. But this can smudge easily so you will need a
special kind of applicator for it.
3) Liquid Mascara: These mascaras are easily found and the most
common of all and are mostly used by women who have slightly curled
lashes. It enhances and sharpens the lashes. These are available in both
water resistant and water-soluble variants
16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 12
• DIFFERENT FORMULAS OF MASCARAS
1. Lengthening Mascara: it adds length to the existing lashes. Brushes
of most lengthening mascaras have denser bristles, which allow the
mascara to get onto the lashes especially on the tips.
2. Thickening/Volumizing Mascaras: it helps you achieve fuller and
thicker eyelashes as it contains a thicker formula of waxes and silicone
polymers.
3. Curling Mascara: it helps to enhance the natural curl of the lashes.
The mascara consistency is a little thicker than other types of mascaras,
which further helps to hold the curl.
4. Lash Defining Mascaras: Lash Defining Mascara is an all-in-one
product that offers volume and thickness. These are usually available as
waterproof. Owing to its consistency and texture, it spreads evenly and
each eyelash looks separate, fine and beautifully curled to give volume
and thickness, thus offering a perfect appearance
16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 13
5.Non–Clumping Mascara:
• these are the latest addition in the market and contain glycerine and silk
extracts, which give the lashes a neat finish.
• 6. Water Soluble/Regular and Water Proof/ Water Resistant:
• Water soluble Mascaras get easily smudged/ flaked & are not long wearing.
They can be easily removed with any basic makeup remover.

❖ Lip liner, also known as a lip pencil, is a cosmetic product.
❖ It is intended to fill in uneven areas on the outer edges of the lips before
applying lipstick to give a smoother shape.
❖ It is also used to outline the lips, keeping lipstick inside the lip area and
preventing it from "bleeding", creating a bigger contrast and making the lips
stand out more.
❖ Alternatively, lip liner can be used to fill in the entire lip before the
application of lipstick, and in some cases is worn as a lipstick on its own.
❖ The product is usually sold in a pencil form which can be sharpened.
❖ Lip liner is usually available in the same range of colours as lipsticks: e.g.,

Ingredients for lip liner Like lipstick, composed of waxes, oils, and pigment.
Compared to lipstick, lip liners are firmer in consistency and more deeply
pigmented, making them suitable for drawing on to the lip with precision. For
these reasons, lip liners have less oil but more wax and pigment than most
lipsticks. A popular wax used in the making of lip liners is Japan wax.

• CARE FOR UNDER ARM
Hair Removal Shaving:
• Shaving the right way will eliminate stubble while preventing ingrown hairs
and any possible inflammation. Remember that hair under there can
sometimes grow in various directions, which means you may have to shave
in more than just one downward motion. Gently exfoliate the area prior to
shaving and use a conditioning shave cream for smooth results. (Exfoliation
also helps fight off underarm odour, but more on that later!) For a close and
comfortable shave, be sure to use a fresh blade
• Waxing:
While waxing isn’t the most fun, it’s highly effective and can leave you hairless
for weeks instead of days or seek the help of a professional aesthetician or
wax expert to ditch the daily stubble

16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 46
• Tips after hair removal from the underarms
• 1. After you have waxed or shaved your underarms, apply a post-wax or
shave cream or mist
• 2. Once waxed or shaved, avoid applying any deodorant or perfume on
that particular day as your skin is sensitive and prone to rashes
• 3. For the next two days, clean, exfoliate and moisturize without fail
Caring of under arms
• 1. Take a bath regularly. Insufficient bathing and poor hygiene lead to an
unpleasant body odor, which is secreted from hidden body parts—those
that don’t get much sunlight—such as your genitals, scalp, areas between
your toes, and underarms. Practice good hygiene for your armpit care by
bathing regularly using anti-bacterial soaps, and make sure you don’t
neglect those “hidden” body parts.
16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 47
• 2. Using antiperspirants.
• Sweating is a natural process that controls the body’s internal temperature, but
excessive perspiration contributes to BO, and not to mention, a low self-esteem.
There are many ways to handle sweat, such as using antiperspirants, underarm
care products, and moisture-wicking fabrics when dressing for the gym. But
when perspiration level is out of control, care for underarms should already
mean consulting a doctor.
• 3. Pampering your armpits.
• Avoid dark armpits by giving your underarms a weekly pampering treatment the
same way you get a facial and spa service regularly. It’s one of the remedies for
dark underarms. Exfoliate your underarms at least once a week with a natural
scrub or body brush while taking a shower. However, don’t overdo it as scraping
or scratching your armpit skin is one of the dark underarms causes.
16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 48
• 4. Choosing a deodorant that works.
Make your deodorant a part of your dark underarm’s treatment or dark
underarms remedy because using the wrong product is a common dark
armpits cause. Choose a deodorant that suits your underarm skin
condition, lifestyle, and perspiration level as a dark armpit remedy at
home. If you want flawless underarms, we recommend Dove Ultimate
Repair Deodorant. Made with ¼ moisturizing cream and face serum
ingredients, it fights stubborn dark underarm spots to give you even-
toned, more beautiful underarms

DEODRANT
• ▪ A deodorant is a substance applied to the body to prevent body odour caused
by the bacterial breakdown of perspiration in armpits, feet and other areas of
the body. A subgroup of deodorants, antiperspirants, affect odour as well as
prevent sweating by affecting sweat glands. Antiperspirants are typically applied
to the underarms, while deodorants may also be used on feet and other areas in
the form of body sprays.
• ▪ Deodorants are often alcohol-based. Alcohol initially stimulates sweating, but
may also temporarily kill bacteria. Other active ingredients in deodorants include
sodium stearate, sodium chloride and stearyl alcohol.
• ▪ Deodorants can be formulated with other, more persistent antimicrobials such
as triclosan that slow bacterial growth or with metal chelant compounds such as
EDTA. Deodorants may contain perfume fragrances or natural essential oils
intended to mask the odour of perspiration. In the past, deodorants included
chemicals such as zinc oxide, acids, ammonium chloride, sodium bicarbonate
and formaldehyde, but some of these ingredients were messy, irritating to the
skin or even carcinogenic

  • 1. CLEANSING AND CARE NEEDS FOR FACE,EYELIDS,LIPS,HANDS,FEET,NAIL,SCALP, NECK,BODYAND UNDERARMS AND FORMULATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ETHNIC NEEDS PRESENTED BY NIVEDITHA G 2ND SEM MPHARM(PHARMACEUTICS) NARGUND COLLEGE OF PHARMACY 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 1
  • 2. Cleansing and Care needs for Face • The Cleansing and Care of face are, removal of facial make- up, surface, oil, dead cells and crusts. Although water is good and cheap cleansing agent but it is ineffective on its own against oils. Soaps can emulsify oils and therefore, soap and water can effectively remove oils. •But disadvantage of this combination are: It may remove too much oil from skin surface leaving it rough and dry 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 2
  • 3. A cleaning cream should have the following properties • It should be stable and should have a good appearance. • It should soften on application to the skin. • It should spread easily without dragging. • During application it should not have oily or greasy feel. • After evaporation of water , the cream residue should not become viscous. • Its physical action should be that of flushing on the skin and pore opening rather than absorption. • A thin emollient film should remain on the skin after its use. 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 3
  • 4. Cleansing products which helps to maintain the cleanliness of face are •Face wash •Cleansers • Fairness creams •Face moisturizers •Face masks 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 4

  • 8. Care needs for face • Start each morning by cleansing your skin. • Apply toner after washing your face in the morning • Moisturize after toning • Apply sunscreen every morning • Wash and moisturize your face again before bed • Use a serum before bed to address spot • Exfoliate once or twice a week and Dedicate a special time for face care 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 8
  • 9. cleansing and care needs for eye lids, lips, hands, feet, nails, scalp, neck, body and under arms. Formulation requirements for ethnic needs. • CARE PREPARATIONS FOR EYELID 1.EYE SHADOW ➢ Eye shadows are used to give a background of colour to the eye. ➢ they are marketed in various shades ➢ conventional shades are blue, green, and brown. ➢ They are evening wear ➢ They may be either in solid form or liquid paste form. ➢ Solid form eyeshadow may be powder compact type, oil-based stick type or penciltype. ➢ liquid base form of eye shadows may be oil base paste or emulsion type; o/w or w/o emulsion type. 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 9

  • 11. MASCARA • Mascara is a cosmetic commonly used to enhance the eyelashes. It may darken, thicken, lengthen, and/or define the eyelashes. • Normally in one of three forms—liquid, cake, or cream—the modern mascara product has various formulas; however, most contain the same basic components of pigments, oils, waxes, and preservatives DIFFERENT TYPES OF MASCARA 1)Water soluble Mascaras get easily smudged/ flaked & are not long wearing. They can be easily removed with any basic makeup remover. 2) Water proof Mascaras don’t get smudged & are long staying. They are the best for summers & Monsoons. They are hard to remove with ordinary removers and needs special oil- based makeup removers. These are highly processed formulas which stay intact on eyes for long hours 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 11
  • 12. CLASSIFICATION OF MASCARA BASED ON THEIR STATE 1) Powder Mascara: • Powder Mascara is very different from wet and dry mascara. You add a few drops of water into it and use it with a wand. • The mascara sets to give a false eyelash kind of a finish. 2) Cream Mascara: • Creamy Mascara provides volume to thin and sparse eyelashes and adds depth to the eyes. But this can smudge easily so you will need a special kind of applicator for it. 3) Liquid Mascara: These mascaras are easily found and the most common of all and are mostly used by women who have slightly curled lashes. It enhances and sharpens the lashes. These are available in both water resistant and water-soluble variants 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 12
  • 13. • DIFFERENT FORMULAS OF MASCARAS 1. Lengthening Mascara: it adds length to the existing lashes. Brushes of most lengthening mascaras have denser bristles, which allow the mascara to get onto the lashes especially on the tips. 2. Thickening/Volumizing Mascaras: it helps you achieve fuller and thicker eyelashes as it contains a thicker formula of waxes and silicone polymers. 3. Curling Mascara: it helps to enhance the natural curl of the lashes. The mascara consistency is a little thicker than other types of mascaras, which further helps to hold the curl. 4. Lash Defining Mascaras: Lash Defining Mascara is an all-in-one product that offers volume and thickness. These are usually available as waterproof. Owing to its consistency and texture, it spreads evenly and each eyelash looks separate, fine and beautifully curled to give volume and thickness, thus offering a perfect appearance 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 13
  • 14. 5.Non–Clumping Mascara: • these are the latest addition in the market and contain glycerine and silk extracts, which give the lashes a neat finish. • 6. Water Soluble/Regular and Water Proof/ Water Resistant: • Water soluble Mascaras get easily smudged/ flaked & are not long wearing. They can be easily removed with any basic makeup remover. Formula • ➢ mineral oil • ➢ Lanolin • ➢ Beeswax • ➢ stearic acid • ➢ gum tragacanth 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 14
  • 15. Preparation of Mascara by Anhydrous method • The ingredients are carefully measured and weighed. • They are then put into a mixing tank or kettle to make a small batch of 10 to 30 gallons (38 to 114 liters) of mascara. • Heat is applied to melt the waxes, and the mixture is stirred using a propeller blade. • The stirring continues until the mixture reaches a semi-solid state 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 15

Remember that hair under there can sometimes grow in various directions, which means you may have to shave in more than just one downward motion. Gently exfoliate the area prior to shaving and use a conditioning shave cream for smooth results. (Exfoliation also helps fight off underarm odour, but more on that later!) For a close and comfortable shave, be sure to use a fresh blade • Waxing: While waxing isn’t the most fun, it’s highly effective and can leave you hairless for weeks instead of days or seek the help of a professional aesthetician or wax expert to ditch the daily stubble 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 38

  • 47. • Tips after hair removal from the underarms • 1. After you have waxed or shaved your underarms, apply a post-wax or shave cream or mist • 2. Once waxed or shaved, avoid applying any deodorant or perfume on that particular day as your skin is sensitive and prone to rashes • 3. For the next two days, clean, exfoliate and moisturize without fail Caring of under arms • 1. Take a bath regularly. Insufficient bathing and poor hygiene lead to an unpleasant body odor, which is secreted from hidden body parts—those that don’t get much sunlight—such as your genitals, scalp, areas between your toes, and underarms. Practice good hygiene for your armpit care by bathing regularly using anti-bacterial soaps, and make sure you don’t neglect those “hidden” body parts. 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 47
  • 48. • 2. Using antiperspirants. • Sweating is a natural process that controls the body’s internal temperature, but excessive perspiration contributes to BO, and not to mention, a low self-esteem. There are many ways to handle sweat, such as using antiperspirants, underarm care products, and moisture-wicking fabrics when dressing for the gym. But when perspiration level is out of control, care for underarms should already mean consulting a doctor. • 3. Pampering your armpits. • Avoid dark armpits by giving your underarms a weekly pampering treatment the same way you get a facial and spa service regularly. It’s one of the remedies for dark underarms. Exfoliate your underarms at least once a week with a natural scrub or body brush while taking a shower. However, don’t overdo it as scraping or scratching your armpit skin is one of the dark underarms causes. 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 48

  • 50. DEODRANT • ▪ A deodorant is a substance applied to the body to prevent body odour caused by the bacterial breakdown of perspiration in armpits, feet and other areas of the body. A subgroup of deodorants, antiperspirants, affect odour as well as prevent sweating by affecting sweat glands. Antiperspirants are typically applied to the underarms, while deodorants may also be used on feet and other areas in the form of body sprays. • ▪ Deodorants are often alcohol-based. Alcohol initially stimulates sweating, but may also temporarily kill bacteria. Other active ingredients in deodorants include sodium stearate, sodium chloride and stearyl alcohol. • ▪ Deodorants can be formulated with other, more persistent antimicrobials such as triclosan that slow bacterial growth or with metal chelant compounds such as EDTA. Deodorants may contain perfume fragrances or natural essential oils intended to mask the odour of perspiration. In the past, deodorants included chemicals such as zinc oxide, acids, ammonium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and formaldehyde, but some of these ingredients were messy, irritating to the skin or even carcinogenic 16-02-2024 Niveditha G (Nargund college of pharmacy) 50
