• What did you feel?
#Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth
What did you think? What did you feel?
● everything was a trigger for her
● She took control over her addiction by putting the pills into the paint .
● feeling some optimism, but then a point was brought up where maybe we
were being too optimistic
● her emotions were very strong
● illlustrating the fact that its a mental illness that is misunderstood as a self
destructive choice by family, society etc
● strong emotions and at the end how she was able to recover from it and
what she made of her adiction
● As someone who's struggled with addiction, the panicked sense she felt
was very relatable
● Made me feel like she needed support and someone to talk too without
judgment and willing to offer support
● we questioned if it could be read a very different way than the ending being
instead not recovery way but instead maybe it symbolized the brief
relaxation from the drugs that kept her addicted
● she recovered but she will need to watch herself
● i feel sad for the girl
#Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth

● sleep, exercise, theraphy, conversations
● Ensuring that we get access to groups that are
supporting us in a benefitial way not that may
cause stress that makes us go back to the
drugs. Sadly groups can be both directions
● honoring my feelings, and spending time with
peoplr
● try to disconnect form unhealthy relationships

A In my
mind
Poll: Where did you experience
this film the most?
B In my
body
#Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth
What did you think? What did you feel?
● i loved how he said his medication makes him
functional, by functional I mean I can make art
● In my min, but I admit at times the art felt like it was
distracting me at times that I felt like I should just
close my eyes to truely hear his thoughts
● it was very moving how he talked about his
medication
● such beautiful art
● uplifted that he found a way to feel some peace.
very creative life saving
● i agree about medication making him functional
rather than happy but it allows him to do the things
that make him happy
● i felt very concious of my breath
● thought of other people I know to whom art is also
very important
● he was managing depression, not curing it
● understanding how someone cant tell how you feel
or are suffering by looking at you
● I never thought about a three step approach
● How people cannot see what is mentally or
emotionally happening to someone...
● [19:14] she/hers : His honesty was really honorable
about the fact that he felt that the med. makes him
functional.
● Some of the art was hard to look at, despite being
well-made.
● art saves lives
● I can relate. It made me sad because of how powerful statement it
is for him. I have an ADHD son who has to medicate everyday as a
9 year old He does express how functional it makes him when he
takes his medicine.
● I love that he mentioned how easy it is to be skeptical but how ge
decided to listen and accept help
● Sad to know that while many of us take it for granted, some have it
difficult just to be functional.
● He talked about art being something he can control, I found that so
important!
● Telling people to reach out...A message to promote happiness.
● I felt like i thought more about this film than the others; I felt those
in my body much more. This film was narrative-driven, and the
images told the story differently
● The feeling of being scared about the whole world execept in the
one momment while at the same time it not being visible. It
actually kinda releated to my feelings about my own epilepsy in
some ways
● I felt proud of him for moving forward with his mission
● I thought it was true-to-life that treatment or medications haven't
"fixed" him (at least in full). This isn't a phase, it's a lifetime
experience - others often have a hard time accepting this
● felt his loneliness with his thoughts/feelings that others can't see
● there was one part where he was talking of placing pillows on the
ground nect to his bed due to suffering from seizures, he
mentioned this as his voice faded and the music took over. but this
stuck a chord wihtin me of the hardships faced as well as the
wrong paths people suffering take to treat themselves due to
depression or chemical imablances
● yeah that was a sad part :(
#Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth
How can we support ourselves and others?
● listen empathically
● check in
● Building a safe place.
● be more understanding, not judging others, lending a hand to someone who struggles
● Ask fiends "How are you doing?"
● To Write Love On Our Arms :)
● friends
● talk about our own experiences so others can know they aren't alone
● To REALLY listen
● Express our own feelings to ecnourage others
● sometimes it an be as easy as check in - allow the person to talk openly.
● Call those who need help, call those who can help you, both are needed
● be open towards one another
● let people feel without trying to make them feel better
● do not label them
● ask people pointed questions
● Remember, when listening, that each person's conditions are unique to them
● Make the effort to show your loved ones that you REMEMBER what they've shared with you.
(ADHDer here! Harder than it sounds sometimes!)
● understanding that nobody is just a "diagnosis"
● Also from my own experince being on both sides with stuff like depression. Being aware that
sometimes people may react a way that isnt the best but that doesnt mean you shouldnt help or
didnt help

  • 27. #Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth What did you think? What did you feel? ● everything was a trigger for her ● She took control over her addiction by putting the pills into the paint . ● feeling some optimism, but then a point was brought up where maybe we were being too optimistic ● her emotions were very strong ● illlustrating the fact that its a mental illness that is misunderstood as a self destructive choice by family, society etc ● strong emotions and at the end how she was able to recover from it and what she made of her adiction ● As someone who's struggled with addiction, the panicked sense she felt was very relatable ● Made me feel like she needed support and someone to talk too without judgment and willing to offer support ● we questioned if it could be read a very different way than the ending being instead not recovery way but instead maybe it symbolized the brief relaxation from the drugs that kept her addicted ● she recovered but she will need to watch herself ● i feel sad for the girl

  • 31. SECRET HORROR By David Granneman AWI Winner, July 2019 Content heads up: depression, substance use disorder, medication management #Movies4MentalHealth
  • 32. #Movies4MentalHealth #Movies4MentalHealth A In my mind Poll: Where did you experience this film the most? B In my body
  • 33. #Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth What did you think? What did you feel? ● i loved how he said his medication makes him functional, by functional I mean I can make art ● In my min, but I admit at times the art felt like it was distracting me at times that I felt like I should just close my eyes to truely hear his thoughts ● it was very moving how he talked about his medication ● such beautiful art ● uplifted that he found a way to feel some peace. very creative life saving ● i agree about medication making him functional rather than happy but it allows him to do the things that make him happy ● i felt very concious of my breath ● thought of other people I know to whom art is also very important ● he was managing depression, not curing it ● understanding how someone cant tell how you feel or are suffering by looking at you ● I never thought about a three step approach ● How people cannot see what is mentally or emotionally happening to someone... ● [19:14] she/hers : His honesty was really honorable about the fact that he felt that the med. makes him functional. ● Some of the art was hard to look at, despite being well-made. ● art saves lives ● I can relate. It made me sad because of how powerful statement it is for him. I have an ADHD son who has to medicate everyday as a 9 year old He does express how functional it makes him when he takes his medicine. ● I love that he mentioned how easy it is to be skeptical but how ge decided to listen and accept help ● Sad to know that while many of us take it for granted, some have it difficult just to be functional. ● He talked about art being something he can control, I found that so important! ● Telling people to reach out...A message to promote happiness. ● I felt like i thought more about this film than the others; I felt those in my body much more. This film was narrative-driven, and the images told the story differently ● The feeling of being scared about the whole world execept in the one momment while at the same time it not being visible. It actually kinda releated to my feelings about my own epilepsy in some ways ● I felt proud of him for moving forward with his mission ● I thought it was true-to-life that treatment or medications haven't "fixed" him (at least in full). This isn't a phase, it's a lifetime experience - others often have a hard time accepting this ● felt his loneliness with his thoughts/feelings that others can't see ● there was one part where he was talking of placing pillows on the ground nect to his bed due to suffering from seizures, he mentioned this as his voice faded and the music took over. but this stuck a chord wihtin me of the hardships faced as well as the wrong paths people suffering take to treat themselves due to depression or chemical imablances ● yeah that was a sad part :(
  • 34. #Movies4MentalHealth#Movies4MentalHealth How can we support ourselves and others? ● listen empathically ● check in ● Building a safe place. ● be more understanding, not judging others, lending a hand to someone who struggles ● Ask fiends "How are you doing?" ● To Write Love On Our Arms :) ● friends ● talk about our own experiences so others can know they aren't alone ● To REALLY listen ● Express our own feelings to ecnourage others ● sometimes it an be as easy as check in - allow the person to talk openly. ● Call those who need help, call those who can help you, both are needed ● be open towards one another ● let people feel without trying to make them feel better ● do not label them ● ask people pointed questions ● Remember, when listening, that each person's conditions are unique to them ● Make the effort to show your loved ones that you REMEMBER what they've shared with you. (ADHDer here! Harder than it sounds sometimes!) ● understanding that nobody is just a "diagnosis" ● Also from my own experince being on both sides with stuff like depression. Being aware that sometimes people may react a way that isnt the best but that doesnt mean you shouldnt help or didnt help
