Dysplasia is a pre-cancerous condition characterized by disordered cell maturation and abnormal growth within a tissue, often involving increased immature cells and decreased mature cells, but can be reversible if causative factors are eliminated. Hyperplasia, in contrast, refers to the increased proliferation of cells in an organ or tissue, leading to enlargement, and is a physiological response to stimuli, without loss of regulatory control. Both conditions showcase abnormal growth patterns but differ in their implications and reversibility.
