• According to Health and Safety Executive figures, 18% of reported work-related illnesses in
the UK construction industry are the result of mental health problems, such as stress,
depression or anxiety, which accounts for 400,000 lost working days each year (IOSH
Magazine)
• The UK construction sector employs 1.2 million workers and the HCLG estimates that some
350,000 employees will experience a mental health problem at any one time (IOSH
Magazine)
• 1 in 6 of us has a mental health problem such as stress, anxiety or depression, yet 1 in 5
fears that disclosure could cost us our job (Mates in Mind)
• More than 1,400 construction workers took their own lives between 2011 and 2015. The
number of suicides among those working in construction trades was the highest of any
profession over that period.
