Blockchain or Crypto?
What is a Cryptocurrency
• Cryptos aka digital currencies are secured
using cryptography and combining that with
their role as a currency.
• They are mined and not printed.
• Considered as digital gold, silver.
• Bitcoin is the most widely known and has
the largest market cap.
Digital Current examples
• Bitcoin
• Litecoin
• Monero
• Dash
• Ether
• Ripple
• And thousands more…..
What is a Cryptocurrency?
Let’s Discuss Bitcoin Briefly
• Bitcoin(BTC) was created by a discrete create named Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009.
To this day no one knows who he or she is.
• Bitcoin now has a fork called Bitcoin Cash.
• Bitcoin is known as “crypto gold”
Defining a Blockchain
Legal definition—A corruption-resistant string of ledger entries shared over a network by multiple parties not requiring a
centralized intermediary to present and validate transactions.
Business definition—A business network that is used between peers to exchange value. Value can be currencies, tracking
information or anything that interested parties require maintained on the blockchain ledger.
Technical definition—A blockchain is a globally shared and secured data structure that maintains a transactional backend
database.
The following list presents the most elementary definitions aligned to the specific audience of technical, business and legal
users.
What is a Blockchain
• Book = Blockchain
• Page = Block
• Page Entry = Blockchain transaction
• Let us think of the blockchain as a book
that can be written to but not erased.
• Blockchains can be private or public
• Blockchains are revolutionary way of
implementing “trust” into a platform.
Blockchain Basics

Some Basics of Blockchain
• Blockchain enable “decentralized trust”
• Blockchain is an “immutable” platform
• Blockchain protocols define “level of
trust”
• Blockchains use Private key
cryptography which enables push
transactions
• Blockchains can scale
• Value is in the “Trust”
Now Really who is
using Blockchain?
What is an Enterprise Blockchain?

Blockchain Summary
• Blockchain can be a complex technology but is a simple concept really.
(Trust is at the center)
• Blockchains are ledgers shared among computers around the world
• The ledgers data (transactions) in a blockchain are immutable.
• Blockchain is not new technology but a synching of technologies to provide a
unique value.
• Blockchains create VALUE thru smart contracts (value transfer)
Blockchain as a Service (BaaS)
Copyright © myblockchainexperts
Blockchain as a Service (BaaS)
• Is generally deployed on a Cloud Computing solution.
• Develop, test, and deploy secure blockchain apps
• Nodes are setup by provider
• Proof of Concepts (POC)
• No need for CAPEX or OPEX for infrastructure
• Rapid deployment of services
Blockchain as a Service
• MS Azure
• AWS
• IBM
• HPE
• Oracle
Why
Blockchain
Now?
Why the Blockchain now?
Blockchain is revolutionary in several ways
• The Financial Crisis of 2008 got some smart people
thinking.. How to avoid banks…..
• Trust is at the center and essentially removes
intermediaries. (efficiency)
• Tamperproof public ledger of value.
• Disruptive to the status quo. Legacy is out
• Platform with numerous use cases.
• Efficiency creation
Disruption and the technology cycle-
Where are we in the cycle?
• The early adopter phase is when a large
investment bank would normally invest due
to clear benefits shown in the earlier
investment phase.
• In the growth phase is a result of
investments, acceptance and value being
provided.
• Maturity occurs when the technology
reaches what is considered mainstream
due to clear industry disruption.
We are here depending on the sector.
Patent demand is clear
The number of patents as well as the speed of how these patents are being applied for is mind blowing.
For example, in less than a few years, Bank of America (BofA) has more than 50 blockchain patents,
including in the following areas:
• Cryptocurrency exchange system
• Wire transfers using cryptocurrency
• ATM as a Service
• Blockchain-based cash handling
Patent demand is clear
Its not just the banking sector, for example the logistics and tech industries are common growth areas:
• Walmart
• IBM
• Facebook
• Ford Motor Company
• Toyota
• Amazon
• Alibaba
Cash Flowing into Projects
There seems to be no slowing down of the investment spickets:
• Cbinsights.com - businesses are planning to spend $2.9B on blockchain technology. Which is up
almost 90% from 2018.
• International Data Corporation (IDC) - estimates worldwide “blockchain spending” in 2019 will reach
a head-scratching $2.7 billion. IDC also expects the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in
blockchain investment between 2018 and 2023 to reach 60.2 percent.
• Statistica- Suggests that global blockchain technology revenues will experience massive growth in the
coming years, with the market expected to climb to over 23.3 billion U.S. dollars in size by 2023.

How to create a competitive
edge with Blockchain
Competitive Edge
Blockchain can provide your organization
new opportunities in your current market
but also can open up new markets.
Start Here:
• Develop a “blockchain center of
excellence” and hire solid technical and
sales expertise. (form your team)
• Enable your sales teams and engineering
groups in blockchain by training them.
Competitive Edge (cont.)
• Partners, VARs and Systems Integrators
need to get on the “blockchain train”
since your competitors likely are already.
• Understand that blockchain is a utility
and being built out that way.
(Consortiums)
• Live by the fact that blockchain
provides a network effect.
• Legacy applications are out of favor
and now Web 3.0 is in. (Meaning
blockchain is now the enabler.)
• Understand the full evolution of the
technology lifecycle, learn where
your customer is at in the cycle and
help them become an early adopter.
• Understand the legal frameworks
that are in play both globally and
locally. (GDPR, KYC, Privacy, SOX)
Competitive Edge (cont.)
• You can choose to disrupt in your
industry vertical or become disrupted.
• Some industries are ripe for
disruption, you know your customer
better than your competitor so have a
discovery session, workshop, respond
to that RFI, etc.
• Team effort is needed, work together
and make great things happen with
blockchain.
Competitive Edge (cont.)

Enterprise Blockchains, Frameworks and TPS Quotable Quotes What is Blockchain as a Service(BaaS) Is your enterprise or customer a target for blockchain? Top five areas where IT professionals can profit from Blockchain. Why Blockchain Now? Hiring Blockchain Expertise Creating a Competitive Edge Resources to learn more
  • 5. What is a Cryptocurrency • Cryptos aka digital currencies are secured using cryptography and combining that with their role as a currency. • They are mined and not printed. • Considered as digital gold, silver. • Bitcoin is the most widely known and has the largest market cap.
  • 6. Digital Current examples • Bitcoin • Litecoin • Monero • Dash • Ether • Ripple • And thousands more…..
  • 7. What is a Cryptocurrency? Let’s Discuss Bitcoin Briefly • Bitcoin(BTC) was created by a discrete create named Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. To this day no one knows who he or she is. • Bitcoin now has a fork called Bitcoin Cash. • Bitcoin is known as “crypto gold”
  • 8. Defining a Blockchain Legal definition—A corruption-resistant string of ledger entries shared over a network by multiple parties not requiring a centralized intermediary to present and validate transactions. Business definition—A business network that is used between peers to exchange value. Value can be currencies, tracking information or anything that interested parties require maintained on the blockchain ledger. Technical definition—A blockchain is a globally shared and secured data structure that maintains a transactional backend database. The following list presents the most elementary definitions aligned to the specific audience of technical, business and legal users.
  • 9. What is a Blockchain • Book = Blockchain • Page = Block • Page Entry = Blockchain transaction • Let us think of the blockchain as a book that can be written to but not erased. • Blockchains can be private or public • Blockchains are revolutionary way of implementing “trust” into a platform.
  • 10. Blockchain Basics Copyright © myblockchainexperts Some Basics of Blockchain • Blockchain enable “decentralized trust” • Blockchain is an “immutable” platform • Blockchain protocols define “level of trust” • Blockchains use Private key cryptography which enables push transactions • Blockchains can scale • Value is in the “Trust”
  • 11. Now Really who is using Blockchain?
  • 12. What is an Enterprise Blockchain? Copyright © myblockchainexperts
  • 13. History • Enterprise blockchains are new historically. • Here is a very short timeline of “blockchains” Enterprise Blockchains are a new technology. Start of Enterprise Blockchains
  • 14. Private (Enterprise) Blockchain Benefits Some Common Enterprise Blockchains Benefits Are - Enterprise Permissioned - Faster Transactions - Better Scalability - Increased Security - Compliance Support - Consensus more efficient (Less nodes)
  • 15. History Table 1.1 - Features - Architecting Enterprise Blockchain Solutions Private (Enterprise) Blockchain Features
  • 17. History VALUE -- Enterprise Blockchains need to create and preserve value. • Provide operational efficiencies of trust and collaboration between consortiums and enterprises. • Create and preserve business models through new and established markets. Remove legacy business models. • Improve the enterprises business accountability and enhance operational efficiency • Increase escalation of collaboration between enterprise organizations and partner ecosystems.
  • 18. History (Optionally) Enterprise Blockchains can also create value here. • Provide transparency to a logistical platform such as farm to table or container shipping. • Improve payment processing times for vendor payments. • Enhance citizen servicing in government services such as tax receipts, land records, voting records, etc. • Provide a historical record that is simply immutable.
  • 19. History International trade network • Hyperledger Fabric logistics consortium blockchain • Trustless • Centralized by consortium • Immutable records • Provides transparency to approved parties.
  • 20. History Know Your Customer (KYC) • Quorum Blockchain • Removes internal corporate redundancy • Provides audit trails • Enterprise level consortiums can provide cost reductions. • Hybrid services such as public validation
  • 21. History Smart Contracts = Value Creation • Not smart nor a contract legally. • Provides value in binary applications. • Effectively removes intermediaries. • Immutable and fully auditable • Extend to gateways. • Provides transparency
  • 23. Enterprise Blockchain Frameworks • Enterprises commonly use the following blockchain frameworks • Hyperledger Fabric • R3 Corda • Quorum • Ripple
  • 24. Blockchain Frameworks Enterprise Focused Blockchains Ethereum R3 Corda Quorum Hyperledger Libra Ripple Industry Cross-Industry Financials Cross- Industry Cross Industry Financial Financial Ledger Permission-less Permissioned Permissioned Permissioned Permissioned* Permissioned Consensus Proof of Work (PoW) Pluggable Majority Voting Pluggable LibraBFT Probabilistic Voting Smart Contract Support Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Cryptocurrency Ether (Eth) N/A N/A N/A Yes (Libra) Ripple (XRP)
  • 25. Comparing Deployments Public (Permissionless) Private (Permissioned) Access to Ledger Open Read/Write Permissioned Read/Write Identity Anonymous Known Identities Security and Trust Open Network (Trust Free) Controlled Network(Trusted) Transaction Speed Slower Faster Consensus POW/POS Proprietary or Modular Open Source Yes Depends on Blockchain Code Upkeep Public Consortium or Managed Examples BTC, Ethereum, Multichain, R3 Corda, Hyperledger, Libra
  • 26. Transactions Per Second (TPS) Copyright © myblockchainexperts
  • 27. Transactions Per Second (TPS) Copyright © MyBlockchainExperts, LLC Transactions Per Second Blockchains are slow. Really. Blockchains are no match for example the Visa Network Let us Compare Transactions Per Second (TPS)
  • 28. Transactions Per Second (TPS) VISA Libra(Pre- Release) BTC Ripple PayPal Hyperledger TPS 24,000 1000 5 1500 193 3500** Control Centralized Centralized Decentralized Centralized Centralized Centralized Notes Push Hybrid P2P Hybrid Hybrid P2P Transactions Per Second (TPS)
  • 30. Bitcoin is what? Blockchain is what? Ginny Rometty, CEO of IBM "What the internet did for communications I think blockchain will do for trusted transactions ...” “…it does not matter if it is people, numbers, data, money…”
  • 31. J.P. Morgan Chase CEO said • "If you're stupid enough to buy it, you'll pay the price for it one day," J.P. Morgan Chase CEO said he • “regrets calling bitcoin a fraud.” • "The blockchain is real"
  • 32. Bitcoin is what? Blockchain is what? Bill Gates - Co-Founder of Microsoft • “Bitcoin is a technological tour de force.”
  • 33. Bitcoin is what? Blockchain is what? Bob Greifeld (Former Nasdaq CEO) • "I am a big believer in the ability of blockchain technology to effect fundamental change in the infrastructure of the financial services industry. • Clearing houses are a wonderful invention, but if you have a public ledger that is trusted, you can evolve back to a bilateral (trading) world but proceed with instantaneous settlement. We currently settle at T+3. Why not settle in 5-10 minutes?”
  • 34. Summing Up This Blockchain! Copyright © myblockchainexperts
  • 35. Blockchain Summary • Blockchain can be a complex technology but is a simple concept really. (Trust is at the center) • Blockchains are ledgers shared among computers around the world • The ledgers data (transactions) in a blockchain are immutable. • Blockchain is not new technology but a synching of technologies to provide a unique value. • Blockchains create VALUE thru smart contracts (value transfer)
  • 36. Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) Copyright © myblockchainexperts
  • 37. Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) • Is generally deployed on a Cloud Computing solution. • Develop, test, and deploy secure blockchain apps • Nodes are setup by provider • Proof of Concepts (POC) • No need for CAPEX or OPEX for infrastructure • Rapid deployment of services
  • 38. Blockchain as a Service • MS Azure • AWS • IBM • HPE • Oracle
  • 40. Why the Blockchain now? Blockchain is revolutionary in several ways • The Financial Crisis of 2008 got some smart people thinking.. How to avoid banks….. • Trust is at the center and essentially removes intermediaries. (efficiency) • Tamperproof public ledger of value. • Disruptive to the status quo. Legacy is out • Platform with numerous use cases. • Efficiency creation
  • 41. Disruption and the technology cycle- Where are we in the cycle? • The early adopter phase is when a large investment bank would normally invest due to clear benefits shown in the earlier investment phase. • In the growth phase is a result of investments, acceptance and value being provided. • Maturity occurs when the technology reaches what is considered mainstream due to clear industry disruption. We are here depending on the sector.
  • 42. Patent demand is clear The number of patents as well as the speed of how these patents are being applied for is mind blowing. For example, in less than a few years, Bank of America (BofA) has more than 50 blockchain patents, including in the following areas: • Cryptocurrency exchange system • Wire transfers using cryptocurrency • ATM as a Service • Blockchain-based cash handling
  • 43. Patent demand is clear Its not just the banking sector, for example the logistics and tech industries are common growth areas: • Walmart • IBM • Facebook • Ford Motor Company • Toyota • Amazon • Alibaba
  • 44. Cash Flowing into Projects There seems to be no slowing down of the investment spickets: • Cbinsights.com - businesses are planning to spend $2.9B on blockchain technology. Which is up almost 90% from 2018. • International Data Corporation (IDC) - estimates worldwide “blockchain spending” in 2019 will reach a head-scratching $2.7 billion. IDC also expects the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in blockchain investment between 2018 and 2023 to reach 60.2 percent. • Statistica- Suggests that global blockchain technology revenues will experience massive growth in the coming years, with the market expected to climb to over 23.3 billion U.S. dollars in size by 2023.
  • 45. • 60. How to create a competitive edge with Blockchain
  • 61. Competitive Edge Blockchain can provide your organization new opportunities in your current market but also can open up new markets. Start Here: • Develop a “blockchain center of excellence” and hire solid technical and sales expertise. (form your team) • Enable your sales teams and engineering groups in blockchain by training them.
  • 62. Competitive Edge (cont.) • Partners, VARs and Systems Integrators need to get on the “blockchain train” since your competitors likely are already. • Understand that blockchain is a utility and being built out that way. (Consortiums) • Live by the fact that blockchain provides a network effect.
  • 63. • Legacy applications are out of favor and now Web 3.0 is in. (Meaning blockchain is now the enabler.) • Understand the full evolution of the technology lifecycle, learn where your customer is at in the cycle and help them become an early adopter. • Understand the legal frameworks that are in play both globally and locally. (GDPR, KYC, Privacy, SOX) Competitive Edge (cont.)
  • 64. • You can choose to disrupt in your industry vertical or become disrupted. • Some industries are ripe for disruption, you know your customer better than your competitor so have a discovery session, workshop, respond to that RFI, etc. • Team effort is needed, work together and make great things happen with blockchain. Competitive Edge (cont.)
