This retrospective study evaluates the surgical management of heterotopic ossification (HO) in patients with elbow trauma and brain injuries requiring intensive care, indicating that HO is a significant cause of post-traumatic elbow stiffness. The study reports that surgical treatment can lead to substantial improvements in elbow range of motion, with an average of 70° increase postoperatively, although complications and recurrences are noted. Effective rehabilitation protocols and the use of indomethacin are recommended to enhance outcomes and prevent recurrence of HO.
