Editor's Notes

  • #2: Speaker: Doug Hello and welcome everyone to our session, “Deliver a Next Level Experience with Lightning Console Apps”. While you won’t be able to use these on your favorite gaming console, you might have almost as much fun.  These slides require Salesforce fonts be installed. https://github.com/salesforce-ux/design-system/tree/master/assets/fonts
  • #3: Speaker: Doug (30 seconds, practice, practice). Slow and low. I’ll just introduce myself quickly. My name is Doug Dunfee and I’ve been working full-time on Salesforce for over 4 years. I am avid Trailhead fanatic, working towards Triple Ranger status currently. I hold 5 Salesforce Certifications and am working towards becoming a Certified Application Architect. I’m active on Twitter @dougdunfee And finally, I’m the organizer of the monthly #SalesforceSaturday meetups in Denver Colorado. I have with me today my CEO, Krista Erickson.

  • #6: Speaker: Doug (30-60 seconds). Don’t go too fast. So, what will you be able to take away from this session today? We have 4 major elements here that we’ve focused on for this session. Demystify – You’ve probably heard of Lightning Console Apps if you’re sitting here or watching this recording. Maybe you’ve tried the default Sales or Service Lightning Console apps once or twice, but haven’t fully embraced them yet. Today we’re going to try to eliminate any unnecessary boundaries for you to start using them even more. This can be a somewhat advanced feature, but Information about the latest features Salesforce has added. They’ve been putting consistent energy into this feature of the past few releases and really added some awesome stuff. Third and most exciting we’re going to show you two real life example apps and how show you how you can get started quickly And finally we want to get you excited about taking fuller advantage of the Salesforce Platform!
  • #7: Speaker: Doug (30-60 seconds). Don’t go too fast. So this is a situation I’ve been in a number of times myself. Especially now as a consultant, I can easily have 10-20 tabs open for Salesforce. Then what happens? You get a phone call or have to go to a meeting; and when you get back you can’t remember which of these tabs you were last on. Maybe your computer crashes or your favorite browser is acting up. Now you have to switch computers or browsers and reopen all these tabs. Or maybe you don’t have these challenges, but your users do? There’s no need to keep stubbing your toes when you can start using Lightning Console Apps!
  • #8: Speaker: Doug This is just a quick screenshot I took from the Trailhead module on Lightning Service Console. The idea of Console Apps comes from the Service Console in Classic Experience which was a paid add-on. Now however, Console Apps are included with most licenses and can be used for any solution, not just Service Cloud! On the far left side (1) we have one of the most defining parts of a Lightning Console app, the Split View. This allows you to have your list of records (Accounts, Cases, Opportunities, anything) open while looking at each individually on the right side. This side panel can be collapsed if you need to focus and want a cleaner view. The 2nd thing you’ll notice is that instead of a row of tabs across the top as you may be used to in other Salesforce experiences, here we have a drop down to choose the type of record we want to start working with. Instead of having multiple tabs open in your favorite browser for Salesforce, you can see everything in ONE browser tab! Finally you’ll notice is that the layout of the main content screen is a bit different than your typical Lightning page. Here we have 3 columns with the 1st column being pinned so that no matter how far you scroll, it’s always visible. And remember our “too many browser tabs” scenario from the previous slide with all the browser tabs? Wouldn’t it be great if you never lost your place in Salesforce again? (CLICK FOR ANIMATION) Well with Lightning Console Apps, Salesforce remembers what tabs you have open and brings you right back to the same place every time! Even on different computers! Huge win!
  • #9: Speaker: Doug Briefly before I hand it off to my awesome CEO Krista Erickson, I wanted to touch on a true Power User feature; Keyboard shortcuts! If you really want to get to that Next Level Experience in Salesforce, you have to try Keyboard shortcuts. We’ll cover a few of these in our demo, but I wanted to briefly show you this screen, and how many more options you get in Console apps vs standard Lightning Apps. Adopting just a few of these into your personal habits can save you a few minutes each day, which can add up over the course of weeks and months. I encourage you to at least memorize the first one on the left side which will get you in the habit of opening this dialog. - Note that the / key is the same one as the ? Without further ado, let me toss it to my CEO Krista Erickson, who’s going to highlight some of the latest new features and get into our demos.
  • #10: Speaker: Krista Salesforce is putting a lot of energy into Lightning Console apps https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/spring18/release-notes/rn_lightning_console_macros_quicktext.htm#rn_lightning_console_macros_quicktext https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/spring18/release-notes/rn_general_lightning_console_action_overrides.htm https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/summer18/release-notes/rn_salesforce_console_for_service_flows.htm https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/summer18/release-notes/rn_console_lex_api.htm#rn_console_lex_api https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter19/release-notes/rn_lex_feature_list.htm https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter19/release-notes/rn_sales_console_lex.htm https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter19/release-notes/rn_console.htm
  • #11: Speaker: Krista Alright, lets get to the fun stuff. I’m going to show you a demo of a Sales Console app that’s been enhanced for an organization that uses Quotes heavily and hates flipping back and forth to see Opportunity and Account details.
  • #12: “For the default Sales Console, everything opens in it’s own Workspace pretty much.” But with a small tweak, we can tune the experience so that it resonates with your users and their needs. Having everything in one screen helps keep things “tidy”. Do you have Enterprise Account Reps who always work on the same Account? Create a purpose built Console App, just for them! They can pin their main Account as a Workspace that never closes and is always there waiting for them no what computer or browser they are using.
  • #13: As Xander Mittman, the Product Manager for this feature called out during a webinar in March. You may notice Console Apps can be snappier since they only load the data for each workspace or subtab.
  • #15: Speaker: Doug So as we’re wrapping up, I wanted to call out this great line from a recent webinar on Lightning Console Apps. LeeAnne Rimel with the Awesome Admins team at Salesforce has been a huge proponent of Console apps. When discussing Console features like Macros and Keyboard shortcuts, she said they can really help you to become a Productivity Champion for your organization. We’re pretty confident that if you adopt Lightning Console Apps, you and your users will quickly start feeling like Neil here [CLICK for NDT animation] and become not only a Productivity Champions, but Productivity Badasses.
