Digital Transformation And Enterprise ArchitectureAlan McSweeney
Digital transformation - extending and exposing business processes outside the organisation - by implementing a digital strategy – a statement about the organisation’s digital positioning, operating model, competitors and customer and collaborator needs and behaviour through the delivery of digital solutions defined in a digital architecture – a future state application, data and technology view to achieve digital operating status - is potentially (very) complex.
Digital architecture does not exist in isolation entirely separate from an organisation’s overall enterprise architecture. Digital architecture must exist within the within the wider enterprise architecture context.
Enterprise architecture provides the tools and the approaches to manage the complexity of digital transformation.
The management function that drives digital transformation needs to involve the enterprise architecture function in the design and implementation of digital strategy and organisation, process and policies and the creation of a digital architecture. Management must appreciate the technology focus and the benefits of an enterprise architecture approach.
The early involvement of enterprise architecture increases successes and reduces failures. Management must trust and involve enterprise architecture. The enterprise architecture function must accept and rise to the challenge and deliver. The enterprise architecture function must allow its value to be measured.

Digital Transformation And Solution ArchitectureAlan McSweeney
Digital strategy is a statement about the organisation’s digital positioning, competitors and customer and collaborator needs and behaviour to achieve a direction for innovation, communication, transaction and promotion. Digital strategy needs to be defined in the same framework structure as the proposed digital architecture platform.
Achieving the target digital organisation means deploying solutions that enable the digital architecture. Solution architecture needs to design solutions that fit into the target digital architecture framework. This requires:
• Solution architecture team operating in an integrated manner designing solutions to a set of common standards and that run on the platform
• Solution architecture team leadership ensuring solutions conform to the common standards
• Solution architecture technical leadership to develop and maintain common solution design standards
• Solution architecture updates the digital reference architecture based on solution design experience
Digital solution design requires greater discipline to create an integrated set solutions that operate within the rigour of the digital architecture framework. The solution architecture function must interact with other IT architecture disciplines to ensure the set of solutions that implement the digital framework operate together. This requires greater solution architecture team leadership. This needs to be supplemented and supported by a well-defined set of digital solution design standards.

Introduction to Business Architecture - Part 2Alan McSweeney
The first part is available at: https://www.slideshare.net/alanmcsweeney/introduction-to-business-architecture-part-1.
This material describes conducting a specific business architecture engagement. The engagement process is generic and needs to be adapted to each specific application and use. The engagement is a formal process for gathering information and creating a new business function model based on an analysis of that information.
The objective is to create a realistic and achievable target business architecture to achieve the desired business change.
Business architecture is a structured approach to analysing the operation of an existing business function or entire organisation with a view to improving its operations or developing a new business function, with a strong focus on processes and technology. Business architecture is not about business requirements – it is about business solutions and organisation changes to deliver business objectives.

EA governance is the practice by which enterprise architectures are managed and controlled at an enterprise-wide level. Governance processes should be tailored to the particular environment of the organization, as well as the architectural goals and objectives of that organization, and should never hinder time to market. A centralized governance body can facilitate and drive key functional and architectural decisions across the primary internal stakeholders to ensure that the enterprise architecture addresses customers’ needs.
The presenter has implemented numerous EA governance organizations. As part of a major pharmaceutical distribution company’s corporate-wide SOA adoption program, he adapted the basic governance frameworks such as TOGAF to the organization and the objectives of the SOA adoption program. This session will examine the processes that were used to create an EA Governance organization at a major energy company and lessons learned at this company, as well as at other organizations.
The Role Of The Architect In Turbulent TimesDavid Chou
The document discusses the role of architects in turbulent times. It notes that architecture translates business needs into technical solutions. In hard economic times, the architect's role may split into areas like business analysis, project management, and domain-focused roles. Architects should focus on aligning architecture to business imperatives, optimizing existing assets, externalizing non-core functions, and consolidating redundancies. The architect must also look to the future by inventing new uses of technology, systematically scanning for trends, and co-creating the future with customers.
Creating an Agile Enterprise ArchitectureCognizant
With the proliferation of digital, the function of enterprise architecture is more critical than ever. Getting there requires a strong, agile enterprise architectural foundation that can embrace a fail-fast/fail-safe approach to the IT charter of stronger business alignment, while ensuring that services are delivered fast and friction-free to meet the needs of today’s dynamic business objectives.

Cisco Systems Case Study: The Architecture Review Process Improving the IT P...Susan Bouchard
Cisco Systems uses an Architecture Review Process (ARP) to evaluate and improve IT investments. The goal is to reduce duplication, increase productivity and deliver value. Key aspects of the ARP include engaging the Partner Architecture Team early in projects to provide technical expertise throughout the lifecycle. Documentation of architecture decisions is improved by providing a common format. Metrics are used to measure impacts such as redundancy eliminated and standards leveraged. Challenges include resource commitment, documentation quality and technology evolution. The action plan focuses on engagement, documentation, metrics and adoption.
The document provides an introduction to enterprise architecture and discusses the context and need for enterprise architecture. It explains that as endeavors increase in complexity, the need for a guiding architecture blueprint also increases. For large, complex enterprise systems, an enterprise architecture is essential for successful construction, ongoing development and modifications. The document uses various examples like constructing a hut, wood cabin, urban buildings, and townships to demonstrate increasing complexity and corresponding need for a stronger architectural framework. It emphasizes that building large information systems without an enterprise architecture would be like building a city without a city plan.
One of the most daunting challenges organizations face in making decisions on what technology is needed to fully enable the business to achieve its strategy and objectives. The key is ALIGNMENT.
Frameworks to drive value from your investment in Information TechnologyJohn Halliday
This PDF presentation aims to assist the C-Suite (CEO, CIO, CRO, CSO), Board Members and Audit and Risk Committees to be aware of good IT governance frameworks and references and thereby have Value conversations with IT professionals (and assist IT professionals to drive, and prepare for these conversations). It will cover a wide range of frameworks and references. Enjoy!
The document discusses balanced scorecards and how they can be used as a management toolkit to measure performance from customer, internal process, and learning and growth perspectives in addition to traditional financial measures. It provides examples of how metrics can be cascaded down from strategic scorecards to operational unit scorecards. Cause and effect relationships between metrics are also discussed, as well as how balanced scorecards can be linked to other frameworks like COBIT and used to track performance against business objectives.
Re-Architecting with Agile Delivery featuring Forrester's Randy HeffnerHeadspring
**Watch the live recording of this presentation at http://headspring.com/re-agile **
Software has become critical to business change but as platforms grow obsolete, internal and external customer needs more complex, and multifaceted reporting an expectation, implementing software changes without considering implications to re-architecture initiatives will only lead to costly rebuilds.
In this presentation, guest presenter, Randy Heffner, Vice President and Principal Analyst of Forrester Research, walks through his latest research on how application delivery (as opposed to business change delivery) kills business responsiveness. He focuses on how leading IT organizations combine digital business design models, agile delivery, and architecture governance to drive continuous business transformation.
Following Randy, Headspring’s Executive Vice President of Operations, Glenn Burnside, details three business enterprise case studies in which the “business transformation catalyst” delivery model has taken theory into practice.
The document discusses a roundtable on Solution Architecture training and CITA-A certification. It provides an overview of the training modules which cover topics like business technology strategy, solution architecture, lifecycles, success metrics, stakeholders, and describing solutions. The training aims to help participants understand the solution architect role and gain skills across software, infrastructure, information, and business domains. It also discusses how solution architects balance conflicting priorities and connect with other architects in an organization.
The document compares the roles of business architect, enterprise architect, solution architect, and technical architect. It provides descriptions of key competencies and how to become qualified for each role. A business architect focuses on business strategies and processes and the relationship between business and IT. An enterprise architect has a broader view of the organization and ensures strategies align with goals. A solution architect defines technical solutions to address problems. A technical architect focuses on implementation and technology details.
This document outlines an enterprise architecture master plan for a government organization. It includes an 8-phase architecture development method to guide the creation of the enterprise architecture. It also establishes several architecture principles for the business, data, application, and technical architectures. Finally, it assesses the organization's current enterprise architecture capability as a Level 3, with the goals of advancing to Level 4 upon completing the architecture development phases and eventually reaching Level 6 with continuous improvements.

The Mobile Hub Part II provides an extensive overview of the integration of glass technologies, cloud systems, and remote building frameworks across industries such as construction, automotive, and urban development.
The document emphasizes innovation in glass technologies, remote building systems, and cloud-based designs, with a focus on sustainability, scalability, and long-term vision.
V1 The European Portal Hub, centered in Oviedo, Spain, is significant as it serves as the central point for 11 European cities' glass industries. It is described as the first of its kind, marking a major milestone in the development and integration of glass technologies across Europe. This hub is expected to streamline communication, foster innovation, and enhance collaboration among cities, making it a pivotal element in advancing glass construction and remote building projects. BAKO INDUSTRIES supported by Magi & Marcus Eng will debut its European counterpart by 2038. https://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/comments-on-cloud-stream-part-ii-mobile-hub-v1-hub-agency-pdf/278633244

Alaska Silver: Developing Critical Minerals & High-Grade Silver Resources
Alaska Silver is advancing a prolific 8-km mineral corridor hosting two significant deposits. Our flagship high-grade silver deposit at Waterpump Creek, which contains gallium (the U.S. #1 critical mineral), and the historic Illinois Creek mine anchor our 100% owned carbonate replacement system across an expansive, underexplored landscape.
Waterpump Creek: 75 Moz @ 980 g/t AgEq (Inferred), open for expansion north and south
Illinois Creek: 525 Koz AuEq - 373 Koz @ 1.3 g/t AuEq (Indicated), 152 Koz @ 1.44 g/t AuEq (Inferred)
2024 "Warm Springs" Discovery: First copper, gold, and Waterpump Creek-grade silver intercepts 0.8 miles from Illinois Creek
2025 Focus: Targeting additional high-grade silver discoveries at Waterpump Creek South and initiating studies on gallium recovery potential.

2. Organizations continue to execute their corporate digitization strategies, requiring
CIOs and IT leaders to engage with business stakeholders to deliver specific
outcomes.
• Such engagement must be governed by the organization’s processes, operating
model, and technology governance to ensure robust, scalable architectures and
roadmaps.
Among my first tasks with the EA team for a multinational chemical company was
redefining the global architecture governance process.
• These processes were being reviewed to enable programs to realize the
digitization strategy.
Background
3. Lights-On Digitization
• Continual improvement and
productivity gains
• Automation of manual
processes
• Efforts are driven by IT leaders
Customer centric Digitization
• Digitization targeting customers and external engagement
• Require strong business insights and are generally steered
by senior functional executives.
Digital excellence
• Enabling emerging technologies and processes
• New sourcing and support models
• Require strong collaboration between IT teams
and functional subject matter experts (SMEs)
to pilot and operationalize the ideas.

Digital transformation is generally not a single, long-running
program. In large organizations, digitization to address aspects
of “lights-on” “digital excellence” and “customer-centric
digitization” might evolve across business units, and there may
be concurrent efforts underway. For example, an organization
might sponsor programs to enhance its e-commerce platform
while also evolving programs for automating supply chains, ERP,
and third-party collaboration. As the digital capabilities mature
in specific areas or lines of businesses, these programs may
begin to converge

6. When to redesign an ARB?
Laissez-faire : little
governance and oversight
required
Governed: Well governed
and end-to-end governance
policies and practice
Challenges Addressed:
• Review occurs late in project design,
giving rise to rework or refusal to modify
the design.
• Perceived as overhead -
Unable/unwilling to bring project to ARB
due to business pressure to stay on
schedule
• Lack of knowledge management and
architecture principles
There are various reasons to revisit Architecture Governance.
In our case, the catalysts for ARB re-design was to
a) Ee-balance the swing of governance pendulum from
Laissez-faire and establish a lightweight ARB
b) Enable Digital Transformation
8. Architecture Governance in Context
Leadership Teams
Corporate Governance: It involves
regulatory and market mechanisms, and the
roles and relationships between a company’s
management, its board, its shareholders and
other stakeholders, and the goals for which
the corporation is governed.
Architecture governance: is the
practice and orientation by which
enterprise architectures and other
architectures are managed and
controlled at an enterprise-wide
level.
Technology Governance: Controls how an
organization utilizes technology in the
research, development, and production of its
goods and services. Although it may include
IT governance activities, it often has broader
scope.
IT governance institutionalizes best
practices for planning, acquiring,
implementing, and monitoring IT
performance, to ensure that the
enterprise's IT assets support its
business objectives.
