NetApp IT sought to adopt game changers like hyperscale computing, flash storage and SaaS as part of their cloud-first strategy. After taking a hard look at our data centers, NetApp IT established a strategic roadmap to downsize data centers where possible to lower costs, enhance services, and become more dynamic.

The survey found that over half of respondents are using some form of hybrid cloud services. Hybrid cloud adoption was popular across all business sizes and regions surveyed. Security, flexibility, and cost savings were the most common motivations for cloud adoption, especially among CIOs. The majority of respondents use cloud services primarily for storage, backups, and file storage workloads rather than more advanced analytics or disaster recovery. German medium-sized businesses were most likely to use cloud for storage, while larger businesses generally used cloud more for SaaS applications.

The amount of data received doubles every 16 months, so NetApp IT sought a more flexible archiving solution. Data older than 12 months is cold archived for cost savings, 6-12 months is warm for performance and cost, and under 6 months is hot for performance.
