Raw Data Digital Twin
• Industry-wide acceptance and establishment of standards are
currently lacking.
• Standards and interoperability are critical for Digital Twins,
serving as 'Systems of Systems' or a 'Federated System’.
• Essential to have data or interface standards to construct an
accurate digital twin of the physical world.
• The absence of standards makes the integration of various
domains notably challenging.
Digital Twins that is NOT Digital Twins
03. Lessons Learned
✓ Lack of a clear digitalization strategy and implementation guidelines
✓ Unclear purpose and application of the digital twin
✓ Excessive use of 3D and emphasis on flashy visual effects without clear
objectives
✓ Manual data transformation processes
✓ Focus on visual appeal rather than simulation and analysis
✓ Standalone systems not integrated with other heterogeneous systems
✓ Absence of OpenAPIs and data exchange standards
✓ Lack of measures to ensure data integrity
✓ No clear approach for data processing and analysis

▪ Expansion into diverse fields: noise, daylight, odor, traffic, weather, disasters, and
ecosystems.
▪ Increasing technical challenges with broader applications.
▪ Significant hurdles in large-scale, real-time dynamic data processing and services.
Importance of
Standards
▪ Lack of standards for data and interfaces across fields.
▪ Challenges in standardizing data/interfaces for new digital twin applications.
▪ Need for minimal compatibility and standardization to create a "System of Systems."
Accelerating AI
Integration
▪ Emergence of GeoAI that "understands language."
▪ Various attempts to utilize LLMs such as ChatGPT after their success.
▪ Such technologies may be adopted in smart glasses (Meta Orion, Apple Vision Pro, etc.)
Practical
Values
▪ Digital twins should deliver practical values by determining how workflows can be
completed and applied in real-world scenarios.
▪ Recognizing that building innovative digital twins beyond simply adhering to existing
practices and systems is a challenging but necessary process.
