• DEFINITION:
• “The definition of education is common in usage,that education merely
the delivery of knowledge,skills and information from TEACHER to
students,is inadequate to capture what is really important about being
and becoming educated.”

HISTORY
 The term sociology was first used by a
scientist Frenchman August Comte in
1830.
 Comte was followed by Herbert
Spencer(English philosopher) writer of
a book PRINCIPLES OF SOCIOLOGY
who believe that individual like a
CELL and society like an organism.
 The word sociology came from the
LATIN word SOCIUS which mean
“COMPANION”OLOGY mean “study
of”LOGO, word knowledge.
SOCIOLOGY
 DEFINITION
 “Sociology is the scientific study of society
including pattern of social
relationship,social interaction and culture”.
 The study of development ,structure and
function of human society.
 FOR EXAMPLE:
 One aspect of sociology is the study of social
institutions which are major structures
made up of groups or ideas that influence
people,s daily lives,views of word
,interaction of the society.

• “Educational sociology is the branch of sociology which deals
the application of education on sociology ,and application of
principles and method of education for the solution of various
problems in the society.”
• OR
• The study of social relationship among people who live
together.
• Educational sociology is the study of how public institutions
and individual experiences affect education and its outcome.

• “Educational sociology is the science which describes and
explains the institutions ;the social relationship in which the
individual gains and organizes his experiences.”

• “Educational sociology start with the assumption that
education is an activity which goes on in a society ,and its
aims and methods depends on the nature of the society in
which it takes place.”
• ACCORDING TO BROWN
• “Educational sociology is the study of interaction of
individual and his cultural environment including other
individuals,social group and pattern of behaviours .”
 AIM OF EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY
The central aim of educational sociologist can thus be defined
is being to study the process of education and the institutions
by which it can be carried on,in relation to the economic
,political ,cultural and other institutions of the society in
which it functions.
To acquire knowledge about school work and the work of
teachers in relation to the society and social progress.
SCOPE OF EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY
It tells us to understand the effect of various social agencies
like family,school on the student.
It studies the relationship between social class ,culture
,language parental education ,occupation and the
achievements of the student .
It concern with such general concept such as society itself
,culture,community,class,environment,socialization,accommo
dation,assimilation,sub-culture,status and role and structure
of school.

CONCLUSION
 Sociology of education helps to form developed and
modified individual character through different
societal process.Sociology is the study human
relationship and institution.It offers a distinctive and
enlightening way of seeing and understanding the
social world.Students who have been well trained in
sociology know how to think critically about human
social life.
