Educational technology has emerged as an essential field of pedagogical study
that has revolutionized the way we conceive and execute educational processes.
This discipline, which is responsible for systematically conceiving, applying and
assessing teaching and learning processes, has evolved significantly from its
origins to become a fundamental pillar of modern education. In an increasingly
digitalized world, its relevance has multiplied, offering new possibilities to improve
and enrich the educational experience.
4. Development
Educational technology as a field of study has its roots in U.S. military training
programs during World War II. However, its true configuration as an academic
discipline was consolidated in the 1950s, driven by three fundamental factors: the
proliferation of mass media, advances in behavioral psychology on human
learning, and the influence of industrial production methods.

Currently, this discipline encompasses several areas of focus that respond to
contemporary educational needs. According to Trianes (n.d.), “in education, digital

which has gained special relevance in recent years; and the implementation of

A fundamental aspect of modern educational technology is its close relationship
with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This linkage has enabled

learning and continuous assessment. The integration of artificial intelligence and
data analysis has opened up new possibilities for identifying learning patterns and
providing personalized recommendations, significantly transforming the way

Educational technology has established itself as a fundamental field of
pedagogical study that continues to evolve and adapt to the educational needs of
the 21st century. Its importance lies not only in the integration of technological

quality of teaching and learning. As a discipline, it has demonstrated its value in
