Cultural Institute Vojvodinas Slovaks
About the Institute
The Cultural Institute Vojvodinas
Slovaks was founded in 2008 and
is one of the most recent cultural
institutions of Slovaks living in
Serbia. It bases its activity on a
continuous tradition of
preservation of Slovak culture on
the territory of Vojvodina which
has lasted for almost 270 years.
According to the last census in
2011, in Serbia there are 52,750
Slovaks who have their cultural
life organized in 36 communities,
mostly in Vojvodina.
NSSNM deals with the cultural
autonomy and the state,
provincial, local cultural
institutions are included in the
realization of rights of culture,
language, education and
information, which traditionally
have and preserve the Slovak
culture in their programmes.
We followed up on the rich and
heterogeneous cultural system,
which has well differentiated
contents, both in terms of cultural
heritage and productive culture.
Numerous organizations,
associations and societies as well
as academic and research
institutions deal with the issue of
Vojvodina Slovak culture
functioning on the following levels:
Slovak communities in Serbia

Cultural and Artistic
Associations...)

Our vision in the beginning of our
work was that traditional as well
as new art and culture of Slovaks
in Vojvodina we try to make
recognizable in the broadest
framework, so that its
characteristics and excellence we
affirm professionally through the
programmes of the Institute.
The new institution sought to
transfer Slovakian culture of
Vojvodina to the 21st century and
in accordance with the overall
development, together with the
development of information
technologies among others, add
this cultural phenomenon a new
value and present it in a new way
...
This short presentation will also
be the opportunity to introduce
you to the capital projects of our
Institute.
Informative-documentary
activity
In the first year of our existence
we created portal of Culture of
Vojvodina Slovaks, with the aim
that in Slovakian, Serbian and
English language:
We map the numerous facts about
the cultural heritage i.e. about the
contemporary cultural creativity of
Slovaks in Vojvodina
We affirm the Slovak culture in
Vojvodina in scientific, research
and promotional purposes in the
broadest framework.
www.slovackizavod.org.rs
We have been making it since
2010 and it represents a unique
place, where we systematize and
preserve, in the electronic form,
testimonies of culture of Slovaks
in Vojvodina (the entities in the
form of audio and video
recordings, photographs, texts ...)
Electronic database about
the culture of Slovaks in

Developement-research
activity
Slovaks in Serbia from the
aspect of culture and other
publications
Capital work “Slovaks in Serbia”
from the aspect of culture has
been created as a result of
documentary and research
activities and at the same time out
of the aspiration to explore and in
a modern and attractive way
introduce cultural life of Slovaks
living in Serbia.

At ICVS has already been held a
series of conferences, which have
open up new topics and
encouraged the researchers to
analyze, document and explore
the phenomenon of the Slovak
minority culture. Public debates
are aimed mainly for young
people, who tend to add new
values and the stamp of time in
which they live to the system of
preservation of the Slovak culture.
Conferences, public debates
Education programmes are
created as a result of sociological
research on the basis of which we
have learned what the weaker
links are in the system and where
it is necessary to engage all
resources to strengthen these
segments.
Training in the field of culture
Presentation of Slovak
culture
Within the framework of its
exhibiting programme and in
collaboration with other cultural
institutions and associations in the
fields of culture, the Institute
organizes exhibitions,
programmes and presentations of
all forms of artistic creativity.

ICVS is a coorganiser of seven
minor festivals and the organizer
of numerous other events related
to important dates, events,
jubilees, anniversaries ... A special
program is dedicated to
supporting the development of
culture in smaller communities.
Cultural events in the local
area
ICVS has established the
cooperation with similar
institutions and cultural institutes
of Slovaks both in the region and
abroad, participating in the
conferences, mediating cultural
exchange and tending to
introduce as many as possible
percipients with the uniqueness
and originality of the Vojvodina
Slovakian cultural code.

Future
Actual question for all of us is:
how to ensure continuity and
maintain high standards of
preservation and promotion of
minority cultures in Vojvodina?
What are the sources of financing,
networking, exchange of
experiences .... that will help our
communities to continue to
achieve such high goals, so that in
perspective they will be able to
perceive their improvement and
development?
We think that we have just done
that on this very day and that we
also have made an important step
towards that, pointing out to the
European community the cultural
phenomena of Vojvodina, we are
proud of, we do care about and for
which we are looking for new
opportunities.
