What kind of institution might
distribute your media product
and why?
What is a production Company
• A production company work on a film from pre-production all the way
to post production. They are responsible for the budget of the film,
the script, actors, directors, and making sure that everything is in
order to create a successful film. They oversee all things associated
with the film and are also viable to any damages caused.
Our production company
• Our production company is called Terror craze productions, we came
up with the name by putting together different words such as horror,
scary, crazy, and ultimately finding that terror craze fits perfectly. The
reason why we called it Terror craze Productions is because by saying
productions it makes the production company seem more
professional and also ensures that people know we are a production
company. Our company logo is a film reel as it links to making films
and also it looks very professional.
What is a distributor
• A distributor handles the marketing and promotion for films and distributes
the film being made. A distributor is able to pick a release date for the film,
also they are able to choose how they want to exhibit the film to the
public. An example is the distributor might want to blanket release the film
which means the film would be released over hundreds of cinemas at once
so that the film is available for the whole public to watch easily. The
distributor also has to make sure that they are able to distribute the film
after being shown in cinemas to people at home. An example is releasing
the film on DVD or Blu-ray or for digital download and on demand. This will
allow people to see the film in the comfort of their own home. An example
of a distribution company in the UK is Lionsgate. Lionsgate is a well-known
distribution company due to it distributing a lot of films in the United
Kingdom.
Budget
• Our film due it being a small scaled film did not require much funding
to produce. Due to this we would need to go to any banks or receive
money from other places. An example of a way to get funds for a film
is product placement where you feature a certain product in your film
so that the company are able to show off their product. An example is
Mercedes. Mercedes cars were continuously shown in the film
Jurassic world, this allowed the production company to get some
funding from Mercedes for having their product shown in their film.
In our production we were able to rent the equipment needed to film
for free and also our actors kindly volunteered to participate in our
film and did not get paid. This enabled us to cut down our budget by
a lot due to this.
Opening credits
• Our opening credits mention the Production Company, the actors
involved in the shooting of the film, who designed the costumes, the
cinematographer, who casted the actors, the editor, the person in
charge of sound, and the director. The reason why we decided to put
the production company’s name first is due to them being in charge
of the making of the film. We included everyone involved in the
making of the film to make sure that everyone was credited.
Institutionally similar films
• Due to our Production Company being new and relatively unknown.
We would release our film straight to DVD and Blu-ray to save money
in the marketing and having to release the film into cinemas. An
example of a film which did this is, ‘One in the chamber’ made in
2012
