Festival dances - are cultural dances performed to the strong beats of percussion instruments by a community of people sharing the same culture usually done in honor of a Patron Saint or in thanksgiving of a bountiful harvest -draw the people’s culture by portraying the people’s ways of life through movements, costumes and implements inherent to their place of origin.
- 12. Filipinos do festivals primarily to celebrate. We celebrate our unity amidst the diversity of cultures and we celebrate our industry bringing about a bountiful harvest. Basically, festivals are a form of entertainment that attracts foreign and domestic tourists to visit a place eventually leading to the elevation of the Filipino’s quality of life.

Ati-Atihan Festival • From Kalibo, Aklan means “make believe Atis”, held annually every 3rd week of January. • Consist of tribal dance parade with drum music, costumes and indigenous accessories to Honor Sto. Niño or Holy Child Jesus. • People Cheer and shout “Hala Bira! And Viva Sto. Niño! To encourage enthusiasm and continuous dancing for the duration of the festival.
- 15. Sinulog Festival • Religious festival held on the 3rd Sunday of January in Cebu to honor the Sto. Niño. • Different groups of dancers dressed in colorful attire are accompanied by rhythmic music of drums, percusiions, trumpets and native gongs. • The petitioners often yell out “Pit Senior”.
- 16. Sublian Festival • Annual celebration on 23rd day of July reflecting the Batangueños commitment and great love to Holy Cross of Bauan and Agoncillo and Sto. Niño of Batangas City. • Subli is performed with chanting and accompanied by drums. Subli come from two words: “subsub”(bending your body forward or downward) and “bali” (broken).
