Q1: What is the Holy Spirit?
A1: Not what, but Who. The
Holy Spirit is the Spirit of
God: God in spirit form.
R1: John 4:24, Philippians 3:3 and I
Corinthians 2:10-12

John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship
him must worship in spirit and truth.
Philippians 3:3 For it is we who are the
circumcision - we who worship in the Spirit of
God and boast in Christ Jesus. We have not
placed any confidence in the flesh.

1 Corinthians 2:10-12 But God has revealed
those things to us by his Spirit. For the Spirit
searches everything, even the deep things of
God. Is there anyone who can understand his
own thoughts except by his own inner spirit?
In the same way, no one can know the
thoughts of God except God's Spirit. Now, we
have not received the spirit of the world but
the Spirit who comes from God, so that we
can understand the things that were freely
given to us by God.

Ephesians 1:13,14 You, too, have heard the word of
truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you
believed in him you were sealed with the promised
Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance
until the redemption of God's own possession, to
his praise and glory.

According to the Bible, God only
baptizes ("overwhelms"), or fills,
people with His Holy Spirit because
people do important things. Every
time a person is filled with the Holy
Spirit they do something - as
evidence to the other people who
are near.

Act 2:2-4 Suddenly, a sound like the roaring of a
mighty windstorm came from heaven and
filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw tongues like flames of fire that
separated, and one rested on each of them. All
of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit
gave them that ability.
1 Corinthians 3:16 You know that you are God's
sanctuary and that God's Spirit lives in you,
don't you?

Acts 2:17,18 'In the last days, God says, I will
pour out my Spirit on everyone. Your sons and
your daughters will prophesy, your young men
will see visions, and your old men will dream

Spirit on my slaves, men and women alike,
and they will prophesy.
Acts 5:32 We are witnesses of these things, and
so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to
those who keep on obeying him.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
1 Corinthians 2:4,5 My message and my
preaching were not accompanied by clever
words of wisdom, but by a display of the
Spirit's power, so that your faith would not be
based on human wisdom but on God's power.

main reason is to use us to

Romans 8:9,11,13,14,26,27 You, however, are not of
the flesh but under the control of the Spirit, since
God's Spirit lives in you. And if anyone does not
have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to

from the dead is living in you, then the one who
raised Christ from the dead will also make your
mortal bodies alive by his Spirit who lives in you.
For if you live according to the flesh, you are
going to die, but if by the Spirit you continually
put to death the activities of the body, you will
live. For all who are led by God's Spirit are God's
children. In the same way, the Spirit also helps us
in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray
as we should. But the Spirit himself intercedes
with groans too deep for words, and the one who
searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
for the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to
God's will.

Romans 15:18,19 For I am bold enough to tell
you only about what Christ has accomplished
through me in the bringing of gentiles to
obedience. By my words and actions, by the
power of signs and wonders, and by the
power of God's Spirit, I have fully proclaimed
the gospel of Christ from Jerusalem as far as
Illyricum.

of them were together in one place. Suddenly,

himself.”

Acts 8:15-17 They went down and prayed for
them to receive the Holy Spirit. Before this he
had not come on any of them. They had only
been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Then they laid their hands on them, and they
received the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18 Stop getting drunk with wine,
which leads to wild living, but keep on being
filled with the Spirit.

For they heard them speaking in tongues and
praising God. Then Peter said,
Acts 8:17-19 Then they laid their hands on them,
and they received the Holy Spirit. Now when
Simon saw that the Spirit was given through
the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered
them money and said, "Give me this power too,
so that when I lay my hands on someone he will
receive the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 19:2-6 and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy
Spirit when you believed?" They answered him, "No,
we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
He then asked, "Then into what were you
baptized?" They answered, "Into John's baptism."
Then Paul said, "John baptized with a baptism of
repentance, telling the people to believe in the one
who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus." On
hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the
Lord Jesus. When Paul laid his hands on them, the
Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak
in tongues and to prophesy.
Galatians 3:2,5 I want to learn only one thing from
you: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of
the law or by believing what you heard? Does God
supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among
you because you do the works of the law or
because you believe what you heard?

fruit. Gifts are powerful special
abilities that Spirit-filled people use.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Now there are varieties of gifts,

person has been given the ability to display the
Spirit for the common good.
Acts 10:44-48 While Peter was still speaking these

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There
is no law against such things. Now those who
belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh
with its passions and desires. If we live by the
Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.
1 John 3:24 The person who keeps his
commandments abides in God, and God abides
in him. This is how we can be sure that he
remains in us: he has given us his Spirit.

in the Holy Spirit, and remain in God's love as you
look for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that
brings eternal life.
