Galileo s Influence On Nicolaus Copernicus
During the 16th and 17th centuries, a scientific revolution transpires which inevitably yields the basis
of our modern scientific knowledge. This new vision in science has been examined by the use of
sophisticated mathematics along with observations. One of the revolutionary discoveries is honored to
the famed Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. He developed a heliocentric model of the universe.
Prior to his time, an earth centered model, also known as the Ptolemaic model, was believed because it
was simply common sense that the earth was motionless as the sun rises and set from east to west,
respectively. Unlike Nicolaus Copernicus, his predecessors believed in geocentrism; the theory which

Therefore, one would not dare to oppose the church s beliefs as it may result with consequences.
Copernicus was well aware of this, therefore, he published his work shortly before his death.
Additionally, his book was also banned. Later on, his book entitled De Revolutionibus Orbium
Celestium, translated to On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres, has been an influential in our
time. Although there was one scholar, after Copernicus s time, by the name of Galileo, who suffered a
consequence appointed by the church. Galileo was permitted to write about new scientific theories
because in his time, in 1623 Pope Urban VIII had an appreciation for such new discoveries. Galileo
was able to support the heliocentric theory as he used the revolutionary instrument, the telescope,
systematically. The observations he made explained that Copernicus is in fact right. Therefore, Galileo
wrote a book entitled Two Chief Systems of the World in 1632, which he defends Copernicus theory
and censures the Ptolemy s and Aristotle s model. Inevitably, the papal Inquisition placed Galileo on
trial for heresy. He was punished for his writing, that was banned, and he was also put under house
arrest until the day he

African Religion Paper
Unit IV Scholarly Activity
The religious ceremonies practiced within the African religion attempt to funnel cosmic energy or
power for the betterment of the tribe. These ceremonies serve as a way for them to build strong
relationships with other members of their community, the gods, their ancestors, and nature spirits. The
shrines and altars they use generally are not a grandiose structure. Often they are not even a permanent
structure, they can be a simple stone marker in someone s yard.
During any ceremony, there is typically singing and dancing. People wear masks to allow invisible
spirits to interact with the human world (Deming, 2015). Before approaching a holy site, it is common
for the people to perform cleansing rituals for themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

heritage in the process. Like the man in the video stated, he was a Christian so he could not make any

Anti Semitism Research Paper
Anti Semitism has been present in the United States since the mid 17th century when, in an effort to
advance the Dutch Reformed Church, the church director Peter Stuyvesant exclaimed that Jews were
deceitful, repugnant, and blasphemers of the name of Christ (Jaher, 1996). During this time, what had
started out as a very small Jewish population, continued to increase as a result of immigration,
primarily from Eastern Europe. From the 17th century to the 18th century, the Jewish population in
the United States increased exponentially. By 1848, there were 50,000 Jews in the United States.
However, with this increase in population, negative stereotypes and attitudes regarding Jews began to
also increase in forms of media that were popular at

Comparing Shakespeare s Hamlet and Marlowe of Conrad s...
Comparing Shakespeare s Hamlet and Marlowe of Conrad s Heart of Darkness Prince Hamlet, of
Shakespeare s famed tragedy, and Marlowe of Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, are similarly
situated characters. Despite superficially different settings and plots, there is a remarkably similar
thematic element shared between both works. Prince Hamlet and Marlowe are brought to the very
brink of insanity by their immersion in worlds gone mad, yet still succeed. At their roots, the
similarities of the environments they are immersed in are remarkable. Whether their environment is a
too too sullied (1057) Royal Danish court, or the dark madness of a murderous Congolese jungle, the
relationship between a sane man s mind, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only are the natures and causes of the evil present in both Hamlet and Heart of Darkness
remarkably similar, but also each character s introduction to it. Interestingly, Prince Hamlet and
Marlowe share a certain naïveté when they first come upon their evils. Hamlet returns home after
hearing of his father s death from studies in Wittenberg, not yet knowing the cause of his death.
Marlowe sets off from Brussels to explore a blank space...a place of darkness (1618), with an innocent
childhood dream to explore the reaches of civilization. Neither man could have known the immense
corruption and evil that awaited them at their destination, but both would quickly learn. Hamlet
returns to Denmark to quickly find that a hasty incestuous marriage between his widowed mother and
his uncle would all too quickly follow his own father s funeral. Perhaps the most significant sign that
all was not right in Denmark was the apparition of the slain former King. Hamlet s father s apparition
is viewed by Hamlet and his company as an open sign that something is rotten in the state of Denmark
(1068). From this first revelation, Hamlet learns by degrees of the evil that attempts to hide itself
behind the legitimate passing on of the throne. Hamlet gets a first glimpse of the evil in the appearance
of the restless soul of his father, later, more so with that ghost s revelation of the murderous truth to
Hamlet, up until Hamlet s own observation of Cladius unique

Essay on Time Value Of Money
Time Value of Money
The time value of money serves as the foundation of finance. The fact that a dollar today is worth
more than a dollar in the future is the basis for investments and business growth. The future value of a
dollar is based on the present dollar amount, interest rate and time period involved. Financial
calculators and tables can assist in computing the future and present values, which eases the pain of
the mathematically challenged. Yield or rate of return can also be calculated.
One financial application of the time value of money is buying or selling a house mortgage note.
Although normally handled by financial institutions, individuals can use this as an investment
opportunity. The first step is having the note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The MBA graduate will add to this calculation the opportunity cost which D. Henderson points out is
redundant in word use, but an invaluable concept to the financial world. The true cost of something is
what you give up to get it. as contract lawyers and airplane pilots know, redundancy can be a virtue.
In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it
could be used for instead. (2002).
In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price,
the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See
Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the
principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005).
The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs
(41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up
costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the
money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. At a return rate of 8%, if
the buyer had purchased a less expense car at 30,000 and invested 500 per year over 20 years, he
would have 22,881 out

communication problem and lack of understanding how this Scanlon plan works dragged the
employees to develop a non interest in the company, causing employees to lose interest in
participation of the Scanlon plan. Employees became suspicious to bonus calculation adjustments over

may have been highly affected by noise. Employees want to feel like their boss is siding with them in
a compassionate manner. Effective communication and thorough understanding of the policies of the
organization would motivate the employees. However, even though the Scanlon plan was allowing fair
strategic planning among coworkers, it overloaded the employees with more information that they
could assimilate. According to Myers Myers (1982), overload is the vast amount of information
transmitted to an employee which surpasses an acceptable level of handling, causing confusion and
stressful employee environments. This lack of communication added to the downfall of the Scanlon

Definition of Health Insurance
Definition
Health insurance is insurance against the risk of incurring health care related expenses. It indemnifies
the insured for the related financial loss. It is important to note that health insurance is a form of short
term insurance. Disability, critical illness and long term care insurance are all subclasses of health
insurance.
When an individual buys health insurance, he/she enters into a contract (policy) with the insurance
company so that for a monthly premium, the insurance company will provide cover for medical
expenses incurred. The level of cover and the health care providers allowed will range between
different products. Coverage will include visits to doctors or hospitals, prescriptions, cost of medical

How Did Jewish People Use Military Resistance To The...
The fight for Jewish honor The Jewish population of Europe was about 9.5 million in 1933. In 1950,
after the Holocaust the Jewish population of Europe was about 3.5 million.
The Holocaust, was a genocide during World War II in which Adolf Hitler s Nazi Germany,
systematically murdered some six million European Jews, between 1941 and 1945.
At the time of the Holocaust, Jews used armed and unarmed forms of resistance in order to retain their
humanity.Armed resistance was when the Jewish people fought physically to avenge the slaughter of
so many of their people. One example of this type of resistance was the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. In
April May 1943, Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto rose in armed revolt after rumors that the Germans would
deport the remaining ghetto inhabitants to the Treblinka killing center. (Jewish resisitance article) This
quote shows the acts of resistance at this time were violent. Armed resistance showed how passionate
and strong the Jewish people could be. Another non violent way Jews resisted was through unarmed
resistance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

without a bother to others. These efforts served to reaffirm a Jewish sense of community, history, and
civilization in the face of both physical and spiritual annihilation. Jews resisted in more ways through
unarmed resistance than armed resistance, spiritual resistance was another form of nonviolent

Body Shape Of Beauty
In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect
body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the
American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up
with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for
women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to
make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn
making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because
America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body
shape for women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven
for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were
the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was
paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean
figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn
Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller.
However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and
give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s
hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and
pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to
be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus
sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much
as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone
through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The heavier a man
was, the more attractive

Essay about The Civil Rights Movement in the USA
The American declaration of independence stated, that: All men are created equal . But in the 19th
century only whites were born with equal opportunities. Africans were imported as slaves and had to
work on the fields of the whites. Until 1865 the Negroes were treated and looked at as something
lower than human. They were compared to apes, and therefore just owned the same rights as animals.
They were raised believing that whites were superior. It took them years to realize that they have to
stand up for their rights. The uprising turned into a brutal civil war. After the war, the slaves were
freed. The thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendment of the U.S. constitution prohibited slavery,

This was considered illegal and Plessy got arrested. Plessy chose to fight his case in court, because the
segregation laws violated the fourteenth amendment. Four years later, the case was brought to the
Supreme Court. The justices ruled against Homer Plessy. Their decision was that segregation is legal
as long as equal facilities were provided. Justice Henry Billings Brown summarized, The object of the
[Fourteenth] amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the equality of the two races before the law, but
in the nature of things it could not have been intended to abolish distinctions based upon color, or to
endorse social, as distinguished from political, equality. . . If one race be inferior to the other socially,
the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon the same plane. This was the opinion of
most Justices and the majority of the white population at that time. From this quote you can see how
the people still believed that the races were not the same and had to be kept separate. This was
considered normal in the court and in the social life. The fact, that the races were not treated equally,
even though stated within the law, was ignored by the white population. The ruling of the Supreme
Court in this case became law. It did not gain the Negros any more rights or equal opportunities. Still,
it was the first step towards desegregation. It also made people realize that there was still injustice
between the races. Justice John

The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop is a very colorful poem filled with lots of different outcomes than our
usual expectations. The poem is very symbolic through its use color and the fish it describes. The
poem is also written in free verse, which you could relate to the nature of the fish. It is set on a boat in
the middle of the ocean, with the ocean symbolizing chaos, the nature of the poem. The fish causes
some conflict within this poem. First, the fish changes the speaker s expectation of how events will
occur. We can infer that the speaker did not find catching the fish as fulfilling as she thought she
would have. Based on the long debating and dangling of the fish, it is obvious that the speaker feels at

Essay on Artifical Heart Can Save Lives
Have you ever met someone that needed a heart transplant? Their heart was failing and the only way
that they could continue to live and escape death was to have an operation to transplant their heart. But
what if there was not a heart available for them when they required it the most? An artificial heart

Robert received his degree. As he was attending the medical school in Utah, there were already
artificial heart designs that were in the process of being developed. The problem behind the early
designs was developing a pump that had a sufficient power source. Robert Jarvik was on the right path
to becoming a successful inventor devoted to helping people around the world. While Robert was
operating with the institution, the team he was working with had developed the Kwann Gett heart .
This device acted as a pumping device with a rubber diaphragm that would move blood in and out as
if it were an actual heart. The team tested animals with this first instead of humans and they soon
found out that the problem with it was that it caused unnecessary clotting which could ultimately have
lead the patient to death instead of correcting their health problem with their heart. Robert was able to
create a new and improved version of the artificial heart which was called the, Jarvik 3 . This
corrected the clotting flaw that the other artificial heart had by substituting the rubber of the synthetic
heart for three malleable sheets of polyurethane also known as biomer. Later on, he was able to
develop a device that was to succeed the Jarvik 3 .

The Importance Of Student Participation In Belle Plaine...
The decrease in participation and winning seasons in Belle Plaine High School sports have become
more noticeable throughout the past three years. Students have discontinued or transferred to other
schools to become more successful within their sport. The average number of student athletes during
the 2012 2013 school year at Belle Plaine High School averaged twenty seven participants; however,
this number decreased to an average of seventeen participants for the current school year (Belle Plaine
High School Yearbook The Flame). The winning records corresponded with the participation, with
more games being won during the 12 13 school year than have been won during this year. This is due
to the lack of student participation. Even though some students are too embarrassed of the lack of
coordinations, they should play a sport because of the social, health, and academic benefits.

emerging demographic of more youth oriented consumers, is focused on trendy styles, then Sears has
a significant weakness in that it is not among the top choices amongst the competition by any means.
In the high end market, competitors such as Holt Renfrew, Harry Rosen, The Bay (which has taken
back lost market share under the guidance of CEO Bonnie Brooks) and the impending arrival of
Nordstrom s really have the clientele loyalty and market share, leaving no room in this market for
Sears. In the discount market, Wal Mart has the obvious market share lead by far, and we cannot
underestimate the impact Target will have when it arrives. Reports suggest Sears and Wal Mart have
the most to lose when target arrives , as can be seen in exhibit 2. 20% of survey respondents feel Sears
will lose a lot of sales when Target opens, 50% feel that Sears will lose some sales, and over 70% feel
Sears s sales will be negatively impacted by Target. As we know, Sears has seen sliding sales since
2006 and Target Canada will definitely add to that. Again, Sears really has no room in this market
either. When one factors in other competitors that the younger population are

The Colombian Reggaeton Singer Who Is From Medellin...
Maluma, the colombian reggaeton singer who is from Medellin Colombia, and Pitbull, the hip hop
reggaeton singer who s from Miami Florida, share some familiar similarities and vast differences in
their background and songs. Both Maluma and Pitbull sing and rap to reggaeton music. With this in
mind, reggaeton originated in Puerto Rico and is considered hip hop and latin american music.
Reggaeton is also sung in spanish. Maluma began his music career in 2010 while Pitbull began in
2001. Uniquely, both singers perform live for their fans and neither of them are retired yet. Although
Maluma started out at a much later period than Pitbull, he still has the same tone as Pitbull does in his
songs. Maluma and Pitbull can each carry out beautiful vocal sounds and harmonize to music
wonderfully. Correspondingly, they are extremely professional singers. For example, Maluma sings
with a lot of low yet powerful vocals while Pitbull sings with medium to high pitched vocals. In
general, the better they sound to their audience, the more they will rise to fame. Another key point is
that they both feature other artists in some of their songs. Maluma and Pitbull can influence people to
learn more about their culture, learn about their musical influence, and learn about their albums and
visit them live in concert to experience an amazing show. Additionally, Pitbull comes from a beautiful
city with a breathtaking view of Miami s beach and Maluma comes from a place of tall buildings and

BIBLE STUDY FOR THE MOTHERS UNION AND WOMEN GUILD ON THE OCCASION OF
THEIR DIOCESAN WOMEN CONFERENCE HELD AT THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF HOLY
TRINITY, LOKOJA ON 29 TH 31ST AUGUST, 2014 Preamble to the Gospel according to St. John
Just as every coin has two valid sides, so Jesus Christ has two natures, also both valid. While the
Gospel according to St. Luke presents Jesus in His humanity as the Son of Man, the Gospel of John
showcases Christ in His divinity as the Son of God.
The writer John, who along with Peter and James formed the inner circle disciple of Jesus, never
refers to himself by name, but always calls himself the disciple whom Jesus loved, as the writer of this
Gospel. (John 13:23, 19: 26; 20:2; 21:7, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary tells the servants, Do whatever he tells you, and with these words she echoes Israel s profession
of faith at Sinai. Mary personifies in a certain manner the people of Israel in the context of the
covenant and stands as a faithful representative of Israel.
Joseph and Jesus
Second, Mary s words find a close parallel with what Pharaoh said about Joseph in the Book of
Genesis. During the severe famine in Egypt, Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of storing up the wheat
harvest in the plentiful years before the famine and distributing it once the food crisis arrived. When
the starving people cried for provisions, Pharaoh told them, Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do
(Gen. 41:55) an expression almost identical to what Mary would later say at Cana.
This Biblical connection between doing whatever Joseph says and doing whatever Jesus says is quite
significant, for there are several parallels between Joseph and Jesus in these two scenes. Just as Joseph
overcame a lack of food during the famine with his storehouses of grain, so Jesus overcomes a lack of
wine at the wedding by changing a large volume of water into wine. Just as Joseph is presented as
having the Spirit of God in him at the beginning of his work (Gen. 41:38), so Jesus is described as
having the Spirit upon Him at the start of His ministry (Jn. 1:32). Just as Joseph was 30 years old
when he began to

Nintendo Chapter 1 Summary
What would it be like to wake up inside a linear world where turtles, mushrooms, princesses,
dinosaurs, and a little mustached Italian plumber are caught in a deadly fight for their lives? The
makers of Nintendo made this possible through the game of Super Mario Bros . In the late 1980s and
through the 1990s, Nintendo was a major contender for taking over the technological age. As one of
the biggest gaming console makers, Nintendo has supplied children all over the world with the
opportunity to escape into a world other than their own, without them having to leave the comfort of
their own home. I chose this book because I was one of those children and Nintendo has always been
a part of my life.

wanted the rights to make Donkey Kong into a game for its consoles. Minoru invested in a Chuck E.

destroy all of their Donkey Kong games because they believed it was an infringement upon the movie
King Kong. They had meetings with lawyers and told Nintendo to settle because there was no way
they could win the case. The lawyer for Nintendo did not believe that MCA had the rights to King
Kong and could not therefore be an infringement. MCA took them to court and lost the case. They
also had to pay damages to Nintendo. Minoru tried to get the Game Watch toys to be successful in
America but it did not turn out. The lawyers decided it was time for the Famicom to come to America

Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric...
In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type
I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same
region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated
with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends
strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the
potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the
holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we
designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence band maximum
(VBM) of bulk semiconductor materials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i,
respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each nanoheterostructure compound
including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2)
and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction (valence) band and e(h) holds for electron
(hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and the electron (hole) confining potential of
strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, Δ_1, Δ_2 and Δ_3 are dielectric constants of core,
shell and external medium, respectively. For simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind
of nanocrystal is

The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity
According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to 8.7
million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s Species Still
Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of life (What is
Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger scale such as
genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain species, it s imperative
to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many people do not recognize the
various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main reason life is sustainable.
Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and ecosystem. It is the framework upon
which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us with food resources, such as fruits and
grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans are dependent on biodiversity for cultural,
economic and environmental stability. For example, farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops,
which allows for a greater supply of food and work. The economic value of biodiversity stems from
its production of many everyday essentials such as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A
healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of
Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are

Cognitive Dysfunction
DISCUSSION
Decline in cognitive function after surgery, particularly in the elderly, has been anecdotally
appreciated by the profession and public for many years. It is a well established phenomenon after hip,
knee, abdominal, cardiopulmonary bypass and recent research reveals it to be a surprisingly common
outcome after other types of major surgery.
Cognition is defined as the mental processes of orientation, perception, memory, and information
processing, which allows the individual to acquire knowledge, solve problems, and plan for the future.
It comprises the mental processes required for everyday living and should not be confused with
intelligence. Cognitive dysfunction is thus impairment of these processes16 .It is usually expressed ...

In (2012)22 Postler A, Neidel J et al conducted a prospective cohort study of 60 patients older than 65
years (66.7% female, 33.3% male) who received THR. The cognitive function was measured
preoperatively, one week and six months postoperatively by the mini mental state test (MMSE).
Shortly after surgery 4 patients (6.7%) developed postoperative cognitive dysfunction, which has
recovered at six months follow up. In 41 patients (68.3%) adverse effects were recorded.
Postoperative anemia occurred as the most common adverse effects (n=32; 53.3%). They noted that
during postoperative hospital stay older patients were at an increased risk for adverse effects. Rudolph

Cognitive Dysfunction recruited patients undergoing noncardiac surgery from 8 countries. In
bivariable analysis, several vascular risk factors were significantly associated with the likelihood of
delirium, including male sex, exposure to tobacco, previous myocardial infarction, and vascular
surgery. After adjustment for age, tobacco exposure and vascular surgery were independent vascular
risk factors for delirium. In addition, This study said male sex is at vascular risk factor and vascular

Women In Comedy Have to Be Double Threats to Be Taken...
Everyone knows that we live in a male dominated world. In the entertainment industry, as well as
every other profession in America, we see women struggling to be taken seriously. Fueled by the
media s obsession with appearances, women are under extreme pressure to look and act a certain way
to please the men around them. In the world of stand up comedy, there is another layer to that
pressure. I m talking about the pressure to be funny. A post circulating the internet displays a triangle
with the points labeled intelligent , good looking , and emotionally stable . In the center are the words
pick two . Replace emotionally stable with funny and you have the dilemma that female comedians
are faced with. In a male dominated industry, they are forced to decide whether they want to reject
today s idea of beauty and play up their wit and intelligence, or highlight their appearance and play the
dumb blonde for laughs. It is only recently that comediennes are refusing to comprise their integrity to
succeed.
Christopher Hitchens famously argued in a 2007 Vanity Fair that women aren t funny or haven t
developed their comedy skills because they don t have to. Comedy, he said, was a mating tool and
women don t need that particular arrow in their quiver because they are pretty and make babies. But
men, Hitchens said, get fat and bald so to attract women they either need wit or wealth. Ergo, men
have evolved their comedic skills to a greater level. Women are socialized out

The Importance Of Moving To American Culture
Even moving to a new house can be a little nerve racking. Will there be enough space? How will the
community be? These are all questions that can go through a person s mind when moving. Now think,
how about moving to a new country, with a new language, and having to bring kids. It would be a
much more intense experience, like the one of Michelle Pique. She moved from france to america in
1993, around the age of 40. She already had 3 kids, none of them knowing english. In france, her
husband, Joel, worked for a cheese company called Alouette. That was the whole reason they moved
to America in the first place.
Joel was getting a promotion that required all of his family to move to America. Prior to them moving,

The local workforce was then supplemented with foreign labour import cheap foreign labour to work

industrial restructuring toward higher labour productivity. In the first 2 decades since its
independence, Singapore experienced a continuous growth in its economy, with GDP constantly above
5 percent while maintaining inflation rate below global averages. (12) However, in 1985, Singapore s
first experience with recession interrupted these plans as the GDP highlighted a year of negative

From the global electronics crash in 2001 to the 2013 SARS outbreak until the 2007 Global Financial
Crisis, Singapore s export driven, trade dependent economy began to suffer from its own success. In a
state of desperation due to labour constraints, Singapore relied even more on foreign workers to seize
any growth opportunities. While this enabled the nation to recover from the recession, a new problem
of an overpopulated foreign workforce raised many concerns in both the public and social sphere. risk
of higher crime rates and lower property values. While labour force injections as a means to drive
economic growth has been around for many years, it was only after the 2009 recession when the over
dependence on foreign labour for growth was revealed. The 2013 budget statement reported that
sectors most reliant on low cost foreign labour lagged behind the most in terms of productivity. Thus,
while labour related policy decisions for economic development were successful in the past, the
volatile markets today in addition to the decline of the workforce emphasize are at the core of weak
productivity growth Their strategies of innovating growth through skill development initiatives focus
on (depth rather than breadth) higher levels of expertise as opposed to a greater sized workforce

ladies at the game watching him play. I find myself saying to my mother what, were those clothes
painted on her ? and all the boy s stair at this young lady, they are drooling at the mouth, like a dog

girlfriend for the last two weeks of the eighth grade year. I will never forget the first time you realize
that boys are no longer gross and that now you rather spend time with boys over girls. When Sanders
describes his college roommate and he have all those men in their dorm staring at all the playboy

Once upon a time there was an old woman. Blind but wise. Or was it an old man? A guru, perhaps. Or
a griot soothing restless children. I have heard this story, or one exactly like it, in the lore of several
cultures.
Once upon a time there was an old woman. Blind. Wise.
In the version I know the woman is the daughter of slaves, black, American, and lives alone in a small
house outside of town. Her reputation for wisdom is without peer and without question. Among her
people she is both the law and its transgression. The honor she is paid and the awe in which she is held

The old woman is keenly aware that no intellectual mercenary, nor insatiable dictator, no paid for

  • 3. Galileo s Influence On Nicolaus Copernicus During the 16th and 17th centuries, a scientific revolution transpires which inevitably yields the basis of our modern scientific knowledge. This new vision in science has been examined by the use of sophisticated mathematics along with observations. One of the revolutionary discoveries is honored to the famed Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. He developed a heliocentric model of the universe. Prior to his time, an earth centered model, also known as the Ptolemaic model, was believed because it was simply common sense that the earth was motionless as the sun rises and set from east to west, respectively. Unlike Nicolaus Copernicus, his predecessors believed in geocentrism; the theory which Earth is the center of the universe, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although there was one scholar, after Copernicus s time, by the name of Galileo, who suffered a consequence appointed by the church. Galileo was permitted to write about new scientific theories because in his time, in 1623 Pope Urban VIII had an appreciation for such new discoveries. Galileo was able to support the heliocentric theory as he used the revolutionary instrument, the telescope, systematically. The observations he made explained that Copernicus is in fact right. Therefore, Galileo wrote a book entitled Two Chief Systems of the World in 1632, which he defends Copernicus theory and censures the Ptolemy s and Aristotle s model. Inevitably, the papal Inquisition placed Galileo on trial for heresy. He was punished for his writing, that was banned, and he was also put under house arrest until the day he ... During this time, what had started out as a very small Jewish population, continued to increase as a result of immigration, primarily from Eastern Europe. Neither man could have known the immense corruption and evil that awaited them at their destination, but both would quickly learn. Hamlet returns to Denmark to quickly find that a hasty incestuous marriage between his widowed mother and his uncle would all too quickly follow his own father s funeral. Perhaps the most significant sign that all was not right in Denmark was the apparition of the slain former King. The fact that a dollar today is worth more than a dollar in the future is the basis for investments and business growth. The future value of a dollar is based on the present dollar amount, interest rate and time period involved. Financial calculators and tables can assist in computing the future and present values, which eases the pain of the mathematically challenged. Yield or rate of return can also be calculated. The true cost of something is what you give up to get it. as contract lawyers and airplane pilots know, redundancy can be a virtue. In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it could be used for instead. (2002). In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price, the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005). The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs (41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. • 12. Body Shape Of Beauty In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body shape for women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone through body shape trends. Justice Henry Billings Brown summarized, The object of the [Fourteenth] amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could not have been intended to abolish distinctions based upon color, or to endorse social, as distinguished from political, equality. . . If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon the same plane. This was the opinion of most Justices and the majority of the white population at that time. From this quote you can see how the people still believed that the races were not the same and had to be kept separate. This was considered normal in the court and in the social life. The fact, that the races were not treated equally, even though stated within the law, was ignored by the white population. The ruling of the Supreme Court in this case became law. The writer John, who along with Peter and James formed the inner circle disciple of Jesus, never refers to himself by name, but always calls himself the disciple whom Jesus loved, as the writer of this Gospel. (John 13:23, 19: 26; 20:2; 21:7, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mary tells the servants, Do whatever he tells you, and with these words she echoes Israel s profession of faith at Sinai. Mary personifies in a certain manner the people of Israel in the context of the covenant and stands as a faithful representative of Israel. Joseph and Jesus Second, Mary s words find a close parallel with what Pharaoh said about Joseph in the Book of Genesis. During the severe famine in Egypt, Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of storing up the wheat harvest in the plentiful years before the famine and distributing it once the food crisis arrived. When the starving people cried for provisions, Pharaoh told them, Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do (Gen. 41:55) an expression almost identical to what Mary would later say at Cana. This Biblical connection between doing whatever Joseph says and doing whatever Jesus says is quite significant, for there are several parallels between Joseph and Jesus in these two scenes. Just as Joseph overcame a lack of food during the famine with his storehouses of grain, so Jesus overcomes a lack of wine at the wedding by changing a large volume of water into wine. Just as Joseph is presented as having the Spirit of God in him at the beginning of his work (Gen. 41:38), so Jesus is described as having the Spirit upon Him at the start of His ministry (Jn. 1:32). Just as Joseph was 30 years old when he began to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Nintendo Chapter 1 Summary What would it be like to wake up inside a linear world where turtles, mushrooms, princesses, dinosaurs, and a little mustached Italian plumber are caught in a deadly fight for their lives? The makers of Nintendo made this possible through the game of Super Mario Bros . In the late 1980s and through the 1990s, Nintendo was a major contender for taking over the technological age. As one of the biggest gaming console makers, Nintendo has supplied children all over the world with the opportunity to escape into a world other than their own, without them having to leave the comfort of their own home. I chose this book because I was one of those children and Nintendo has always been a part of my life. Chapter 1: A New Leader of the Club Children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MCA Universal demanded that Nintendo destroy all of their Donkey Kong games because they believed it was an infringement upon the movie King Kong. They had meetings with lawyers and told Nintendo to settle because there was no way they could win the case. The lawyer for Nintendo did not believe that MCA had the rights to King Kong and could not therefore be an infringement. MCA took them to court and lost the case. They also had to pay damages to Nintendo. Minoru tried to get the Game Watch toys to be successful in America but it did not turn out. • 24. Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric... In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence band maximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductor materials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction (valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, Δ_1, Δ_2 and Δ_3 are dielectric constants of core, shell and external medium, respectively. For simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind of nanocrystal is ... • 25. The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to 8.7 million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s Species Still Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of life (What is Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger scale such as genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain species, it s imperative to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many people do not recognize the various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main reason life is sustainable. Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and ecosystem. It is the framework upon which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us with food resources, such as fruits and grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans are dependent on biodiversity for cultural, economic and environmental stability. For example, farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops, which allows for a greater supply of food and work. The economic value of biodiversity stems from its production of many everyday essentials such as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are ... It is a well established phenomenon after hip, knee, abdominal, cardiopulmonary bypass and recent research reveals it to be a surprisingly common outcome after other types of major surgery. Cognition is defined as the mental processes of orientation, perception, memory, and information processing, which allows the individual to acquire knowledge, solve problems, and plan for the future. It comprises the mental processes required for everyday living and should not be confused with intelligence. Cognitive dysfunction is thus impairment of these processes16 .It is usually expressed ... The cognitive function was measured preoperatively, one week and six months postoperatively by the mini mental state test (MMSE). Shortly after surgery 4 patients (6.7%) developed postoperative cognitive dysfunction, which has recovered at six months follow up. In 41 patients (68.3%) adverse effects were recorded. Postoperative anemia occurred as the most common adverse effects (n=32; 53.3%). They noted that during postoperative hospital stay older patients were at an increased risk for adverse effects. Rudolph JL, Jones RN, Rasmussen LS et al in (2007)23 conducted an International Study of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction recruited patients undergoing noncardiac surgery from 8 countries. In bivariable analysis, several vascular risk factors were significantly associated with the likelihood of delirium, including male sex, exposure to tobacco, previous myocardial infarction, and vascular surgery. • 29. Women In Comedy Have to Be Double Threats to Be Taken... Everyone knows that we live in a male dominated world. In the entertainment industry, as well as every other profession in America, we see women struggling to be taken seriously. Fueled by the media s obsession with appearances, women are under extreme pressure to look and act a certain way to please the men around them. In the world of stand up comedy, there is another layer to that pressure. I m talking about the pressure to be funny. A post circulating the internet displays a triangle with the points labeled intelligent , good looking , and emotionally stable . In the center are the words pick two . Replace emotionally stable with funny and you have the dilemma that female comedians are faced with. In a male dominated industry, they are forced to decide whether they want to reject today s idea of beauty and play up their wit and intelligence, or highlight their appearance and play the dumb blonde for laughs. It is only recently that comediennes are refusing to comprise their integrity to succeed. Christopher Hitchens famously argued in a 2007 Vanity Fair that women aren t funny or haven t developed their comedy skills because they don t have to. Comedy, he said, was a mating tool and women don t need that particular arrow in their quiver because they are pretty and make babies. But men, Hitchens said, get fat and bald so to attract women they either need wit or wealth. Ergo, men have evolved their comedic skills to a greater level. Women are socialized out ...
