From Fossil to Future:
Green Energy Companies
Leading India’s Energy Transition
Introduction
India is rewriting its energy story – and this time, the
lead role is played not by coal or oil, but by solar
panels, wind turbines, and innovative clean-tech
companies that are changing the game.
The energy transition isn’t just a buzzword anymore.
It’s a full-blown shift, reshaping how power is
generated, distributed, and consumed across the
country. And at the heart of this transformation are the
green energy companies and renewable energy
solution providers making the impossible look routine.
Let’s take a closer look at the companies leading this
charge, the kind of impact they’re making, and why
India’s move from fossil to future is one of the most
ambitious global clean energy efforts of our time.
The Urgent Push
Towards
a Cleaner Energy Landscape
It’s no secret that India has long
depended on coal. Nearly 70% of the
electricity used across the country still
comes from thermal power. But times are
changing – and quickly.
With growing concerns around climate
change, pressure from international
climate commitments like COP26, and
increasing public awareness, there’s now
a clear push for a more sustainable path.
The Indian government has set a bold
target: 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity
by 2030.

Solution Providers
You can’t talk about India’s green shift
without mentioning the companies doing
the heavy lifting. From solar and wind to
bioenergy and green hydrogen, renewable
energy solution providers are laying the
groundwork for a cleaner future.
Government Backing
Makes All the Difference
It’s not just private companies that are fuelling the energy transition. Government policies have
played a big role too.
Schemes like the PM-KUSUM for solarising agricultural pumps, the National Green Hydrogen
Mission, and state-specific renewable energy mandates are all pushing the agenda forward.
Total renewable energy capacity now stands at 198 GW, with solar power contributing 89 GW, wind
power 53 GW, and the rest made up of small hydro, biomass, and others.
The country added 18.7 GW of new renewable capacity between July 2024 and June 2025 – the fastest
annual growth rate in its clean energy history.
India now ranks 3rd globally in terms of installed renewable energy capacity, after China and the United
States.
Investments in renewables crossed $19 billion in FY 2024–25, with foreign direct investment (FDI) in clean
energy seeing a 23% jump year-on-year.
Over 1.2 million green jobs have been created since 2020, with solar manufacturing, installation, and
O&M (operations and maintenance) being the top employment generators.
Battery storage capacity crossed 10 GWh this year, thanks to rising demand for round-the-clock power
and government incentives under the PLI scheme.
The Road
Ahead:
Collaboration, Innovation, and Scale
Looking forward, three things will decide how successful this
energy transition becomes:
Collaboration: Between private firms, public sector bodies,
and global partners.
Innovation: In tech, in policy, and in financing models to make
clean energy accessible and scalable.
Scale: Because India’s population and power demand won’t
wait. Clean solutions need to meet real-world demands at
industrial scale.
Final
Thoughts
The transition from fossil fuels to renewables
isn’t easy. But India is proving it’s not only
possible – it’s already underway.
From industry giants like Tata Power and
ReNew Power to strategic newcomers like
Essar and JSW Energy, the country’s clean
energy champions are reshaping how India
powers its future.
As more businesses, policymakers, and
citizens come on board, the energy transition
is no longer a question of “if”, but “how fast”.
THANK
YOU
