GitHub Actions (GA) has become the de facto tool that developers use to automate software workflows, seamlessly building, testing, and deploying code. Yet when GA fails, it disrupts development, causing delays and driving up costs. Diagnosing failures becomes especially challenging because error logs are often long, complex and unstructured. Given these difficulties, this study explores the potential of large language models (LLMs) to generate correct, clear, concise, and actionable contextual descriptions (or summaries) for GA failures, focusing on developersâ perceptions of their feasibility and usefulness. Our results show that over 80% of developers rated LLM explanations positively in terms of correctness for simpler/small logs. Overall, our findings suggest that LLMs can feasibly assist developers in understanding common GA errors, thus, potentially reducing manual analysis. However, we also found that improved reasoning abilities are needed to support more complex CI/CD scenarios. For instance, less experienced developers tend to be more positive on the described context, while seasoned developers prefer concise summaries. Overall, our work offers key insights for researchers enhancing LLM reasoning, particularly in adapting explanations to user expertise.

Exceptions allow developers to handle error cases expected to occur infrequently. Ideally, good test suites should test both normal and exceptional behaviors to catch more bugs and avoid regressions. While current research analyzes exceptions that propagate to tests, it does not explore other exceptions that do not reach the tests. In this paper, we provide an empirical study to explore how frequently exceptional behaviors are tested in real-world systems. We consider both exceptions that propagate to tests and the ones that do not reach the tests. For this purpose, we run an instrumented version of test suites, monitor their execution, and collect information about the exceptions raised at runtime. We analyze the test suites of 25 Python systems, covering 5,372 executed methods, 17.9M calls, and 1.4M raised exceptions. We find that 21.4% of the executed methods do raise exceptions at runtime. In methods that raise exceptions, on the median, 1 in 10 calls exercise exceptional behaviors. Close to 80% of the methods that raise exceptions do so infrequently, but about 20% raise exceptions more frequently. Finally, we provide implications for researchers and practitioners. We suggest developing novel tools to support exercising exceptional behaviors and refactoring expensive try/except blocks. Test Plan ⢠Document that describes scope, approach and schedule of intended test activities. ⢠Better will be the test plan more will be the quality of the software. ⢠Test plan is basically designed by Test lead or QA manager . ⢠Test Plan should be updated as per the requirement update. ⢠Test plan should consist details of Test Environment, Test design technique required ,usage of Entry and Exit Criteria, risk and mitigation analysis, tools required to perform testing etc.

Test Suite ⢠Test suite is a collection/container of test cases of particular module of functionality. ⢠Test suite can also be considered as subset of Test Plan. ⢠Test Suite describes the goal of the test case. ⢠Test Suite consist of applicationâs version, environment and test parameters. ⢠There are basically 2 types of test suite Abstract Test Suite and Executable test suite.

Test Script ⢠Test Script is a set of instruction used in automation testing. ⢠Test Script are written by using test cases . ⢠Scripts can be prepared using scripting language and their frameworks. ⢠Tools are also available where coding knowledge are not much required. ⢠Test Scripts are usually prepared in automation testing for eg. Selenium, Appium , Hp QTP and Robotic Framework.

Test Data ⢠It is simply the input given to the software application to check whether the outcome is as per expected outcome or not. ⢠Input can be given in any of type of data ,Web element action, Desktop field element or mobile inputs. ⢠More accurate the test data used for testing more accurate will be the quality of software. ⢠Test data input should be given using Boundary Value analysis, Equivalence Partition, State Transition diagram, Decision table testing for maximum test coverage on time.

Test Procedure ⢠Test procedure is nothing but steps to reproduce the functionality to be tested as per expected requirement. ⢠Test Procedure should be precise and accurate so it is understandable to team members, scrum master , product owner and stakeholder of the project. ⢠Steps should be written in points so that it is easy to reach particular module or check a particular functionality. ⢠Points should not be complex and highly technical .

Test Harness ⢠Test harness consist of stubs, driver and some other testing tools. ⢠Test harness are executed using test library and test reports are generated. ⢠Test harness is mostly used in Automation testing. ⢠Increases the pace of debugging and productivity. ⢠Test results are recorded which helps developer or SDET.
- 16. Stubs and Driver ⢠Stub and Driver dummy modules created for testing . ⢠Drivers are used in bottom up approach of integration testing. Also, referred as calling program. ⢠Stubs are used in Top Down Approach of integration testing. Also, referred as called program. ⢠Purpose of the stubs are to allow upper level of the code.
