As a society where making sense should be the top priority the ability to make different choices starts with the decision to design streets as comfortable places for people.
Get over it plans the community of Strømsø around transportation, making Strømsø more accessible influencing quality of life for the future to come.

The idea behind the tram system is not an innovative one, however seen in this relation it might turn out to be exactly that. Giving nurture to the concept of introducing a tram
system which becomes a local system connecting inner centre of Drammen into one entity might be the strength needed to enhance further the branding of Drammen as the
city for the future. In relations to the competition Get over it structures the whole concept layout around the establishment of a tram system. Regardless this idea, the first
phase of such an idea could (with the use of the same street layout) favor carbon free buses in a transit period between bus and tram. The strategy will show a very strong
benefit with the introduction of the tram as it connects with the north and south in a sustainable manner, and connects with adjacent areas making access improved and more
secure by reducing the use of cars, keeping them to the outskirts of the edges.

THE GREEN CARPET
The Barrier that the train is representing has been overtaken by connecting the sea shore, with the marina and promenade to the core of Stromsø by creating a structure
that gets over it. This way Get over it have proposed a new direction of accomodating the new TRANSPORTATION HUB that Strømsø now seeks to become.

The green carpet accomodates under it a parking of about 200 cars for commuters, the CAR SHARING system of about 200 electrical cars, and the BUS TERMINAL.
As a whole, the green carpet creates an amazing public space on the top of it, with parks, and playgrounds and also a new Passive House neigbourhood. By lifting up the
public space and GET in it OVER the rail track, the project creates a new public space exposed to sun, and making it attractive to the different moment of the day. Refer-
ing back to the Making sensen of Drammen, the urban image of becoming one entity is of crucial importance to strenghtning the city si becoming more clear and possible
through this new concept. The waterfront facade becomes an attraction by itself, and as a destination the many opportunites the carpet can provide is of high value for
travelers, local citizens and the city.

Drammen defined by Bragernes and Strømsø is going the right direction by sustaining a district for:

• REDUCED CAR USE
• PUBLIC SPACES FOR PEOPLE AND ACTIVITES GENERATED
• STREETS OF HIGH QUALITIES
• PARKS FAVORING RECREATION AND ACTIVITIES OF ALL KINDS
• SMALL DESTINATIONS FOR NICHE EVENTS
• MARKET PLACES AND GROWTH OF LOCAL ECONOMY
• INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURE AND ENERGY SAVING STRUCTURES

The new improved Strømsnes provides a vision for the future bringing Drammen as one entity one step further into a sustained future.

                                                                                                                                                                                        pedestrian access

  • 3. 03 STRATEGY What if ...Strømsø and Bragernes was better connected by a tram system? Get over it looks at the future aspect of improved transportation and connectivity through an environmental solution. Get over it plans for people and places - not cars and traffic. More traffic and road capacity are not the inven- tible result of growth and sustainability. They are the fact the product of very deliberate choices that shapes communities around the private automobile. NEW BRIDGE AND BRAGERNES CULTURAL HUB STRØMSØ ISLAND SPORTS FACILITIES As a society where making sense should be the top priority the ability to make different choices starts with the decision to design streets as comfortable places for people. Get over it plans the community of Strømsø around transportation, making Strømsø more accessible influencing quality of life for the future to come. The idea behind the tram system is not an innovative one, however seen in this relation it might turn out to be exactly that. Giving nurture to the concept of introducing a tram system which becomes a local system connecting inner centre of Drammen into one entity might be the strength needed to enhance further the branding of Drammen as the city for the future. In relations to the competition Get over it structures the whole concept layout around the establishment of a tram system. Regardless this idea, the first phase of such an idea could (with the use of the same street layout) favor carbon free buses in a transit period between bus and tram. The strategy will show a very strong benefit with the introduction of the tram as it connects with the north and south in a sustainable manner, and connects with adjacent areas making access improved and more secure by reducing the use of cars, keeping them to the outskirts of the edges. Strømsø overall strategies new waterfront improved connection between the waterfront and urban fabric The overall strategies for Strømsø is about creating places for people and define the district as a community for the future. Hence to the com- plexity of the competition program Get over it has pin pointed five major focus areas: 1) WATERFRONT going green improved connection; train station trains run under the green carpet the new city tram connecting north the buses and cars for train station 2) SQUARES, PARKS & DESTINATIONS and introducing entrance for river creating a non-barrier effect and south making Drammen one is fed under the carpet parallel with 3) TRANSPORTATION & CAR USE REDUCTION taxi entity the train 4) PEDESTRIAN & BICYCLE MOVEMENT AND 5) CONNECTIVITY LOCAL & REGIONAL the new square of the reduction of car use making all of great importance which will give: destinations pedestrians the main focus A. The conceptual thoughts of how the design of the square should be envisaged are only displayed as simple schemes in this project, however, the principle alignment of the water bed, the threes to sustain shadow on warm sunny days, envel- oping of buildings etc are all considered to be the best to support Get over it as a sustainable project. The tram extends the idea of “Reaching out like an octopus whereas it serves also the north side of the river; Bragernes (as mentioned in Section 03_Strategy). With a controlled infrastructure, and predicted stops outside the three main stops of Strømsø, the walkability is increased. Related to this the commercial amenities will provide for work, leisure and other activities which generates public use and other attractions. Installation of PV panels on facades (as part heat exchanger installed in water systems of shading f.ex) to supply needed power and to feed the grid when power production exceeds power need. Refurbishment of existing buildings A lot of the existing buildings in Strømsø is brick -buildings that is not thriving with a heavy layer of insulation on the outside to achieve energy- savings. By applying more or less the same principles as to the new building struc- ture; glassed balconies, solar-panels on the roof, Pv-panels as part of sun- shading, the old structure can achieve energy efficient savings and have the social life the balconies brings with them into the city-streets. Urban run-off on surface Urban stormwater run-offs are contaminated with high levels of organic and synthetic pollutants. This must be cleaned before it can be let into the river to avoid disturbance of the existing ecosystems. Normally all surface water in the city is piped and cleaned together with the sewage wich is an expensive process. By handeling and cleaning Strømsø´s run-off for nutrients and pollution on the surface with retention basins and bio-svales with plant-ecosystems that filter and extract pollutants and the filtering capasity of substrates to improve the quality of the rainwater it can benefit the inhabitants in the urban spaces before it washes into the river. By developing the streetscape with blue-green elements for the water to travel through, and with use of extrusive green roofs the selection of species will also incerase (2010 beeing the year of Biodiversity, Naturmangfold året). Development with permeable surfaces rather than hard surfaces increases the environment in the cityscape to absorb more stormwater. URBAN HEAT ISLAND- EFFECT; rising temperature in the city in summertime is related to the increased use of hard surfaces. Water, plants and trees in the squares, in the private backyards and on the roofs lowers the average temperature and fights the UHI-effect. • 6. 06 CONCEPT SUN STUDY june 07 - 12 - 19 march 07 - 12 - 19 THE GREEN CARPET The Barrier that the train is representing has been overtaken by connecting the sea shore, with the marina and promenade to the core of Stromsø by creating a structure that gets over it. By lifting up the public space and GET in it OVER the rail track, the project creates a new public space exposed to sun, and making it attractive to the different moment of the day. Refer- ing back to the Making sensen of Drammen, the urban image of becoming one entity is of crucial importance to strenghtning the city si becoming more clear and possible through this new concept. The waterfront facade becomes an attraction by itself, and as a destination the many opportunites the carpet can provide is of high value for travelers, local citizens and the city. Drammen defined by Bragernes and Strømsø is going the right direction by sustaining a district for: • REDUCED CAR USE • PUBLIC SPACES FOR PEOPLE AND ACTIVITES GENERATED • STREETS OF HIGH QUALITIES • PARKS FAVORING RECREATION AND ACTIVITIES OF ALL KINDS • SMALL DESTINATIONS FOR NICHE EVENTS • MARKET PLACES AND GROWTH OF LOCAL ECONOMY • INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURE AND ENERGY SAVING STRUCTURES The new improved Strømsnes provides a vision for the future bringing Drammen as one entity one step further into a sustained future. pedestrian access natural light under the carpet transport hub structure under the carpet buss train PARKING / cars commuters lifts V ER iT G et O
