Aquaculture is the farming and husbandry of aquatic organisms under controlled conditions. It is an important economic activity and flourishing sector in India. Aquaculture provides excellent opportunities for employment and income generation, especially in rural areas. India is the second largest producer of fish globally and the largest producer of freshwater fish. Fish production in India has increased significantly from 41.5 lakh tonnes in 1991-1992 to over 101 lakh tonnes in 2014-2015. New initiatives, improved breeding technology, specialized feeds, and technological advancements like aeration solutions have supported the strong growth of aquaculture in India.
