ALL TENSES
LV2 C1.
PRESENT TENSE
 The present tense is the base form of the verb:
 We use the present simple to talk about: something that is true in the
present: something that happens regularly in the present: something that is
always true:
EXAMPLES
He lives in London.
I play football every weekend
The human body contains 206 bones.
PAST TENSE
 With most verbs(regular), the past tense is formed by adding –ed:
Called, Liked, Wanted, Worked
 We use the past tense to talk about: something that happened once in the past:
something that happened several times in the past: something that was true for
some time in the past:
 we often use expressions with ago with the past simple:
Examples:
We went to Spain for our holidays.
They always enjoyed visiting their friends.
I met my wife a long time ago.
FUTURE TENSE
 The future simple is used to talk about a time later than now and can be used
in lots of different ways.
 It is made up of the verb will/won’t (Will not) + base infinitive (infinitive
without to).
Examples:
I Will travel tomorrow. I won’t travel tomorrow
We Will have another class next week. We won’t have another class next week.
She will make you a sandwich. She won’t make you a sandwich.
Shall
 We can use shall instead of will for future time references with I and we.
However, it is slightly more formal.
E.g. We shall never forget this beautiful day.
 It is also common to use shall in questions to make offers, suggestions or ask
for advice.
E.g. Shall I carry these bags for you?
Shall I open the window?
What shall I tell Mary about the broken vase?
Use of the going to - Future
To talk about future things you intend to do, plan or decided to
do. It’s important to note that for predictions based on evidence
and for future plans we use be going to not will.
Examples: GONNA
I'm going to visit her next month. I WILL VISIT HER NEXT MONTH
Look at those grey clouds. It’s definitely going to rain!
We are going to the gym. WE WILL GO TO THE GYM
Future continuous
 We use this tense to talk about things in progress at a particular time in the
future. Things that are fixed, planned or definitely decided.
 Structure : will/won’t + be + ing form
Examples:
I’ll be working for my Dad until I find a new job. I will be working
She’ll be getting married next week. She won’t be getting (will not)
This time tomorrow, I’ll be flying to Barbados.
Use of the Present Simple in the future
To talk about times of arrivals and departures of traffic
and times of events.
Examples:
The train leaves at 10.20. The train will leave at 10:20
The bus goes at 8.30. The bus will go at 8:30
School starts at 7:20.
