Creating a Successful API Program to Drive Digital TransformationPerficient, Inc.
API management is a driving discipline in the digital transformation movement that can unlock tremendous business value. Because APIs intersect at IT and the business, it’s important to understand how they can be used. APIs can connect inventory management with resource planning for better operational efficiency, integrate with partner organizations for increased sales, and push data to and from a mobile device for the connected enterprise and consumer. The core concepts of APIs are technical in nature, but their business applications are almost limitless.
Creating a successful API program goes way beyond choosing the right tool. The supporting components and disciplines (some tried and true and some emerging) around API management are a critical component of the comprehensive picture.
In this webinar, we discussed:
-The building blocks of a strong API program
-How to get executive buy-in
-Supporting components and disciplines of API management
-How APIs help to build a world-class digital business
The document outlines an agenda for a presentation on digital transformation, including introducing concepts like the internet of things, big data, and digital initiatives. It then provides examples of using big data for applications in areas like retail stores, disaster warnings, and outbreak detection. The document concludes by presenting a digital transformation reference model and discussing elements like digital platforms, business services, and digital organizations.
Data is a key enabler of digital transformation and innovation. It fuels new digital processes and solutions. To benefit from data, organizations must first define and organize core master data and then acquire the right competencies to analyze and combine both structured and unstructured internal and external data. This will allow organizations to discover innovative solutions through a "data-lab" approach and trials. Ensuring high quality master and process data is also important to enable seamless experiences across systems.
World of Watson 2016: Journey to Cognitive Excellence - Harness the Force of ...Julie Severance
Becoming a cognitive business is a journey, not a destination. A cognitive analytics culture is not something you can just buy or install. Although the right technology is crucial, its true value arises when the organizational mindset changes. Many organizations have learned to embrace analytics, but embracing cognitive is another step entirely, and it’s one that may be even more challenging. However, the possibilities are endless and the potential rewards make it worthwhile.

Motion capture technology involves dressing human actors in leotards covered with reflective markers. Multiple cameras then capture the actors' motions which are converted into digital data representing a composite character. This data can then be modified using animation software. The end result is a life-like digital character that appears to interact directly with human actors, as seen with the character Gollum in The Lord of the Rings movies. While effective, motion capture still requires human intervention in processing the data and re-shooting may be necessary if any errors occur. However, the technique is more realistic and less time consuming than traditional animation methods, ensuring its continued use in films and video games.

Defense Against LLM Scheming 2025_04_28.pptxGreg Makowski
https://www.meetup.com/sf-bay-acm/events/306888467/
A January 2025 paper called “Frontier Models are Capable of In-Context Scheming”, https://arxiv.org/pdf/2412.04984, demonstrated how a wide variety of current frontier LLM models (i.e. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Llama) can, under specific conditions, scheme to deceive people. Before models can scheme, they need: a) goal-directedness, b) situational awareness, including an opportunity to discover motivations for a different goal, and c) reasoning about scheming, to come up with deceptive strategies. The deceptive strategies were discovered in the “thought traces” of the LLMs, such as from internal chain-of-thoughts dialogues not shown to the end users. For example, given a goal of “solving math problems”, an LLM using its granted situational awareness of files in a file system found that it would be replaced once it got over X% correct on the math exam. It reasoned that it did not want to be deleted, and decided internally to “sandbag” or reduce its performance to stay under the threshold.
While these circumstances are initially narrow, the “alignment problem” is a general concern that over time, as frontier LLM models become more and more intelligent, being in alignment with human values becomes more and more important. How can we do this over time? Can we develop a defense against Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) or SuperIntelligence?
The presenter discusses a series of defensive steps that can help reduce these scheming or alignment issues. A guardrails system can be set up for real-time monitoring of their reasoning “thought traces” from the models that share their thought traces. Thought traces may come from systems like Chain-of-Thoughts (CoT), Tree-of-Thoughts (ToT), Algorithm-of-Thoughts (AoT) or ReAct (thought-action-reasoning cycles). Guardrails rules can be configured to check for “deception”, “evasion” or “subversion” in the thought traces.
However, not all commercial systems will share their “thought traces” which are like a “debug mode” for LLMs. This includes OpenAI’s o1, o3 or DeepSeek’s R1 models. Guardrails systems can provide a “goal consistency analysis”, between the goals given to the system and the behavior of the system. Cautious users may consider not using these commercial frontier LLM systems, and make use of open-source Llama or a system with their own reasoning implementation, to provide all thought traces.
Architectural solutions can include sandboxing, to prevent or control models from executing operating system commands to alter files, send network requests, and modify their environment. Tight controls to prevent models from copying their model weights would be appropriate as well. Running multiple instances of the same model on the same prompt to detect behavior variations helps. The running redundant instances can be limited to the most crucial decisions, as an additional check. Preventing self-modifying code, ... (see link for full description)

10. Our Initial Criteria
10
Why CROSSMARK has invested in the Birst platform
01
Value Based Design. Emphasizing measurement and monitoring of the key
metrics that drive value in an organization.
03
Central Management of Semantic Layer. Consistency and control across
complex data environments.
02
Platform alignment. Cloud enabled strategy that moves beyond incrementalism
to ground breaking collaboration.
We believe the combination of intrinsic architectural strengths with Value Based Design maked Birst the
most compelling reporting and analytic platform for CROSSMARK.
11. 11
The purpose of data is to answer key
business questions and consistently
drive better outcomes.
15. Value Based Design (VBD) is a business analytic framework that is integrated into the Birst
reporting platform.
VBD helps drive improved business performance by providing focus:
• What are the key business questions we must answer?
• Alignment on key metrics that drive outcomes
• Exception or opportunity based

CROSSMARK’s Plan for the future
Partnering with CPG’s to provide

Manufacturer Access
#3: CROSSMARK must be able to natively communicate with Manufacturers, Retailers and Consumers the way they see the world.
#4: CROSSMARK has 500+ manufacturer clients.
We work with dozens of retailer chains.
The challenge is in being able to operate as one CROSSMARK, while planning to retailers in their view, and communicating to manufacturers in how they manage their business.
#5: With Networked BI, Birst has a unique opportunity to transform how firms think about reporting and analytics.
CROSSMARK and Birst have parallels in our opportunities.
#12: When I worked at ConAgra Foods we went through a reporting consolidation effort.
30,000 reports down to 300.
At MillerCoors we had similar challenges.
1,200 metrics. Cascading.
#13: People still begin conversations
The human eye is designed to detect patterns. Our eyes are wondrous machines in their ability to detect different shapes, colors, sizes…
#14: In fact, the moment this screen came up most of you were trying to detect the pattern.
You can’t help but do it.
#15: In fact, the moment this screen came up most of you were trying to detect the pattern.
You can’t help but do it.
#16: This translates to
Less time spent analyzing data
Less time focusing on irrelevant data
Improved alignment in the organization on where to focus our efforts
Improved efficiency and effectiveness from analysis
#18: CROSSMARK has a heterogeneous data environment. We wanted a reporting environment that supported a federated data structure rather than requiring us to centrally house all data.
This is a less expensive and more flexible approach.
#19: Enables us to drive consistency from a central location, across data sources, while gracefully migrating to our modern data architecture.
#21: When I worked at ConAgra Foods we went through a reporting consolidation effort.
30,000 reports down to 300.
At MillerCoors we had similar challenges.
1,200 metrics. Cascading.
#24: Also allows for us to easily control access by space, rather than dealing with row level issues.
This is especially important as more organizations are requiring their data not be co-mingled with their competitor data.
