- 3. In the context of caregiving, tools are devices used by hand when doing an activity or work. These are designed to do a particular kind of work. It can be considered as extension of the human hand thus increasing speed, power, and accuracy. On the other hand, equipment usually denote/s a set of implements that are used to provide specific service or function which include any machine powered by electricity. In other words, when one says equipment, there is a certain mechanical aspect to it that cannot be ignored. Whereas, paraphernalia are commonly referred to a group of apparatus for a particular activity. These basic materials need always to be sterilized to make them free from bacteria or other living microorganisms.
- 4. Tools, equipment and paraphernalia used in caregiving are classified according to functions. These functions are namely: used for meal preparation, •used for cleaning, washing, and ironing; and • used for taking vital signs. When talking of vital signs, this means taking the measurements of the body’s most basic functions.
- 7. An electric knife is a kitchen device which is used for slicing food. It requires less physical effort than an ordinary knife and makes neater slices.
- 8. A ladle is a long-handled spoon with a deep bowl at the end for serving food specially broth or soup.
- 9. A food tong is an instrument with two hinged or sprung arms for grasping and holding.
- 10. A chopping board is a flat, wooden, or plastic board where meats or vegetables can be cut.
- 11. A microwave oven is an oven in which food is cooked by the heat produced by the absorption of microwave energy.
- 12. A food processor is a multi- tasking tool which is used to slice, dice, or whip food ingredients.
- 13. A coffee maker is an electric countertop appliance that brews hot coffee automatically.
- 14. An airpot is a container usually rounded which is used for holding liquid to maintain hotness or coldness.
- 15. A blender is a kitchen and laboratory appliance which is used to mix, purify, or emulsify food and other substances
- 16. A stove is an appliance in which electricity/gas is utilized to supply heat to be used for cooking or reheating.
