Design of Efficient Solar Energy Collector using MPPT

I.INTRODUCTION:
 Solar modules are devices that convert solar energy into electricity and offer a
practical solution to the problem of power generation in remote areas. The solar
tracker which is designed and constructed in this project offers a reliable and
affordable method of aligning a solar module with the sun in order to maximize
its energy output.
 A Lens based solar cell that would be receiving the maximum amount of sunlight
possible and convert it into more useful energy.
 A Solar tracker is a device for orienting a solar photovoltaic panel or
concentrating solar reflector or lens towards the sun.
 Lens based solar cell collects more amount of solar radiation and converts it into
usable form of electrical energy (DC voltage).
 The DC voltage is given to the DC–DC Converter in order to boost up voltage
and stores this energy into batteries for different types of applications. The sun
tracking systems can collect more energy than what a fixed panel system collects.
II.OBJECTIVE:
 To design high efficient boost converter by using lenses arrangement to focus
sunlight at high concentration and to achieve maximum power using Perturb and
Observe MPPT algorithm.
 Here lenses are used to concentrate the sunlight to the solar panel and high density
solar rays are trapped by it.
 This gives high efficiency and in the electrical point of view the MPPT algorithm
is implemented to track the Maximum power from the solar panel.
 The Perturb and Observe (P&O) method is used by taking voltage and current as
reference from the panel and pulses are produced with the help of
microcontroller.
 Fresnel lenses (FLs), which are used in solar micro modules jointly with cascade
photocells, is used to increase the concentration capability.

IV.DESCRIPTION OF METHODOLOGY:
Overview of Design:
 Design of DC-DC converter.
 Design of Lens based solar cell.
 Design of Microcontroller and Driver Circuit.
Analysis of Lens based solar panel:
 To analysis the position of solar radiation at different time interval and the lens
should be placed near solar panel in order to maximize the solar radiation and
convert it into usable form of electrical energy.
Analysis of MPPT Algorithm:
 To analysis PV array or generator will have one point on its current/voltage
characteristic that corresponds to maximum power output.
Mathematical Analysis of Boost converter:
 Mathematical calculation for solar array and DC-DC Boost converter.
MATLAB /Simulink Analysis
 Using MATLAB/SIMULINK the Solar array, DC-DC Boost converter will be
designed and simulation output is verified.
Hardware Implementations:
 After verifying the simulation result, the hardware is implemented.
