This document discusses improvements in mobile network architecture through software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV), emphasizing the need for enhanced mobility management and seamless integration of heterogeneous radio access technologies. The proposed architecture, called software-defined plus virtualization featured mobile network (S+ MN), aims to optimize inter-system handovers and IP mobility management by distributing gateway functions and eliminating centralized control limitations. A functional setup demonstrates the architecture’s efficacy in maintaining session continuity and quality of service across various access networks.
