The term processor has generally replaced the term central processing unit (CPU). โข The processor in a personal computer or embedded in small devices is often called a microprocessor. โข An Intel Corei7 is an Intel proprietary processor that is built on the framework of multiprocessor architecture.

- 4. ๏ถ What is Intel Core I7 Processor? Core i7 is first processor using Nehalem Micro- architecture and a processor with faster, intelligent, multi-core technology . Examples are- i7-5550u, i7-5557u, i7-5500u etc.

- 8. ๏ถ Improved Cache Latency with Smart L3 Cache- Cache is a block of high-speed memory for temporary data storage located on the same silicon die as the CPU. The Core i7 family of processors features an inclusive shared L3 cache that can be up to 12 MB in size. Figure-The inclusive shared L3 cache in the Core i7 processors offers better cache latency for increased performance.
- 9. ๏ถ Optimized Multithreaded Performance through Hyper- Threading- Hyper-threading exposes a single physical processing core as two logical cores to allow them to share resources between execution threads and therefore increase the system efficiency. It uses processor resources more efficiently, enabling multiple threads to run on each core. Figure . Hyper-threading allows simultaneous execution of two execution threads on the same physical CPU core.

- 13. ๏ถ Disadvantages Of Core I7 Processors โข Very Costly โข Power Consumption is relatively high from other processors โข Will only work with DDR3 Memory, meaning for people upgrading from DDR2 will have to get a whole new motherboard โข Not a whole lot of software will require multi- threading, meaning for the average person - there won't be much of a performance gain from a dual core.

- 15. ๏ถConclusion โข In a test performed on a leaked hardware, the core i7 outperformed the currently fastest core2 extreme processor. โข It has got the advantages of high performance, highly overclockable, quite cooling and power efficient. โข Some of the disadvantages include the requirement of newer motherboards, sensitive to higher voltage. โข The technology keeps on improving as the need for faster and high end applications increases. The i9 core version is about to be released soon.
