This study assessed the efficacy of intraoperative plain balloon angioplasty (PBA) to enhance creation of radiocephalic arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) in patients with small cephalic veins. The results indicated a high intraoperative success rate of 94.7% and satisfactory primary (55.2% at one year) and secondary patency rates (98.8% at one year), with advanced age identified as a significant risk factor for reduced patency. Overall, PBA demonstrated its potential as a useful approach in improving vascular access for end-stage renal disease patients.
