Introduction to layers

Layers in Flash allow you to organize artwork, animation, and other elements. Each layer is like a transparent sheet that objects can be drawn on without affecting other layers. You can add, rename, hide, lock and rearrange layers. Layers are useful for separating different types of elements like graphics, sounds, and animations without increasing file size.

Introduction to Layers

Layers are like transparent sheets of acetate

stacked on top of each other. Layers help you

organize the artwork in your document. You

can draw and edit objects on one layer without

affecting objects or another layer.

When you create a new Flash document,

it contains one layer. You can add more

layers to organize the artwork, animation

and other elements in your document. The

number of layers is limited by your

computer’s memory.

Layers do not increase your file size of your

published movie. You can hide, lock and

rearrange layers. You can also organize and

manage layers by creating folders placing

layers in them. You can expand or collapse

layers in the Timeline without affecting what

you see on the Stage.

It’s a good idea to use separate layers or

folders for sound files, actions, frame labels

and frame comments. This helps you to find

these items quickly when you need to edit

an item.

Creating New Layer

 Choose Insert Layer.

 Right-click a layer name in the Timeline

and choose Insert Layer from the context

menu.

 Select a Layer in the Timeline, then choose

Insert Layer Folder.

 Right-click a layer name in the Timeline, then

choose Insert Folder from the context menu. The

new Folder appears above the layer you selected.

Naming Layers

 Double-click the name of a layer or folder

then enter a new name.

and choose Properties from the context

menu. Enter the new name in the Name

text box then click Ok.

and choose Modify Layer. In the Layer

Properties dialog box, enter the new name

 Click the eye icon to hide all the layers
and folders. Click it again to show all

layers and folders.

 Click in the Lock column to the right of the

Changing Orders of Layers

 Select the Layer that you want to change

the order then drag it to the next position.

MS-DOS was first released in 1981 and updated until 1994 when it was replaced by Windows 95. All versions of Windows still contain some elements of DOS. The basic structure of DOS commands uses the format "Command Source Destination /Switch". Commands include COPY, XCOPY, DIR, DEL, EDIT, MOVE, REN, MD, DELTREE, and TREE. The DOS prompt displays the current directory. File names cannot be longer than 8 characters and extensions no more than 3 characters. Basic commands like CD, CD.., COPY, DIR, DEL allow navigating and managing files and folders.

Introduction to layers

2. Introduction to Layers Layers are like transparent sheets of acetate stacked on top of each other. Layers help you organize the artwork in your document. You can draw and edit objects on one layer without affecting objects or another layer.

3. When you create a new Flash document, it contains one layer. You can add more layers to organize the artwork, animation and other elements in your document. The number of layers is limited by your computer’s memory.

4. Layers do not increase your file size of your published movie. You can hide, lock and rearrange layers. You can also organize and manage layers by creating folders placing layers in them. You can expand or collapse layers in the Timeline without affecting what you see on the Stage.

5. It’s a good idea to use separate layers or folders for sound files, actions, frame labels and frame comments. This helps you to find these items quickly when you need to edit an item.

8. Creating New Layer  Choose Insert Layer.  Right-click a layer name in the Timeline and choose Insert Layer from the context menu.

9. Creating New Folder  Select a Layer in the Timeline, then choose Insert Layer Folder.  Right-click a layer name in the Timeline, then choose Insert Folder from the context menu. The new Folder appears above the layer you selected.

11. Naming Layers  Double-click the name of a layer or folder then enter a new name.

12. Naming Layers  Right-click the name of a layer or folder and choose Properties from the context menu. Enter the new name in the Name text box then click Ok.

13. Naming Layers  Select the layer or folder in the Timeline and choose Modify Layer. In the Layer Properties dialog box, enter the new name in the Name text box then click OK.

15. Hiding and Showing Layers  Click the eye icon to hide all the layers and folders. Click it again to show all layers and folders.

16. Hiding and Showing Layers  Drag through the Eye column to show or hide multiple layers.

17. Hiding and Showing Layers  Alt-click in the Eye column to the right of a layer name to hide all other layers. Alt- click it again to show all layers.

19. Viewing Layer as an Outline  Click the outline icon to display objects on all layers as outlines. Click it again to turn off outline display on all layers.

20. Viewing Layer as an Outline  Click in the Outline column to the right of the layer’s name to display all objects on that layer as an outlines. Click it again to turn off outline display.

21. Viewing Layer as an Outline  Alt-click in the Outline column to the right of a layer’s name to display objects on all other layers as outlines. Alt-click or Option-click in it again to turn off outline display for all layers.

22. Locking and Unlocking Layers  Click in the Lock column to the right of the name of a layer or folder to lock it. Click in the Lock column again to unlock the layer or folder.

24. Locking and Unlocking Layers  Click the padlock icon to lock all layers and folders. Click it again to unlock all layers.

25. Locking and Unlocking Layers  Drag through the Lock column to lock or unlock multiple layers or folders.

26. Locking and Unlocking Layers  Alt-click in the Lock column to the right of a layer or folder name to lock all other layers or folders. Alt-click or Option-click in the Lock column again to unlock all layers or folders.

28. Changing Orders of Layers  Select the Layer that you want to change the order then drag it to the next position.
