- 3. Introduction Islam is the religious preached and practised by the Holy Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Islam is an Arabic word which means “peace and submission” of oneself to god. Ummah is an Arabic word meaning “nation or community”. Ummah is used by Allah in the Holy Quran referring to Muslims and which is more specifically used in Arab. The Quran says You(Muslims) are the best nation brought out for mankind, commanding what is righteous and forbidding what is wrong.
- 4. Populations of Muslims Worldwide In 2006, Muslim majority had an average population growth rate of 1.8% per year which compares with a world population growth rate of 1.12% per year. The Muslims in India has risen from 9.91% in 1951 to 14% in 2012. After Indonesia, India is having the largest population of Muslims.
- 6. Festivals of Islam JUMAAH- This takes place every week on FRIDAY. It is also known as Friday Prayer which have to be done 5 times a day and those five prayers are as follows:- • FAJR- offered before sunrise. • ZUHR- offered at noon when the sun beging to decline. • ASR- offered in afternoon. • MAGHRIB- offered just after sunset. • ISHA- offered in the evening. EID-Ul-FITR- This festival is very important for muslims it is celebrated after 1 month of RAMADHAN. EID-UL-ADHIA- This takes place just after the 10 weeks of EID. In which one of the animal is sacrificed like goat, cow, camel. In India we called it as BAKAR-EID. SHAB-I-MIRAJ- Night of ascent.It is a blessed night when the Holy Prophet of Islam was spiritually transported to heaven. EID MILAD-UN-NABI- Birth ceremony of Holy Prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated on 12th of RABI-UL-AWWAL and same day is the death anniversary of Prophet. MUHARRAM- It is related to Hussain grandson of Holy Prophet. It is considered to be the sad day for Muslims because of the death of Hussain by the KAFIR’S (non- muslims).

Cultural Norms of Islamic Community Islamic worships have five features which are known as “FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM”. • The declaration of faith: There is none worthy of worship except Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. • Salat: To offer five daily prayers at their appointed times. • Zakat: To contribute a certain percentage of one’s wealth for the benefit of the poor and for some other noble causes. • Fasting in the month of RAMADHAN. • Haj: Pilgrimage to the Ka’aba in Arabia at least once in one’s life time, if physically & financially possible and if the journey is safe. The foods which is prohibited in Islam is called HARAM and that which is allowed in Islam is called HALAL. Childs when they start speaking properly or is eligible to get learned he/she is taught to learn Quran and is taught to do good thing to have faith in Allah in any circumstances. HIJAB is for women which tells a women to remain in PARDA. It is SUNNAT for them. JUBBAH is for men which Holy Prophet use to wear is continued by the Muslims now also is SUNNAT for them. Muslims speak URDU. Arabians speak Arbi language.
- 9. DUNIYA now in which we all are living is a prison for Muslims and JANNAH for Kafir’s (non-muslims). Those who will not pay the Zakat will suffer a lot at the time of judgment when the Duniya will come to an end.
