The automotive industry in Argentina has seen strong growth since the 2009 crisis. Vehicle production increased 39.7% from 2008-2009 and 20% from 2009-2010, reaching record levels for most automakers. Vehicle sales within Argentina also reached a record in 2010, growing 28.7% from 2009. Exports of vehicles grew nearly 40% in 2010 compared to 2009, with the main destinations being Brazil, Chile, and Ecuador. However, imports of auto parts also increased in 2010 to meet rising demand, leading to a trade deficit in the automotive industry that can be explained by the trade balance in auto parts alone.
