PURPOSE OF THIS WORK
This book, like the others I have published, aims to lead
people to become better, to love God above all else and their
neighbors as themselves. My works are not intended to entertain, but
to provoke reflection on our existence. In God there is an answer for
everything, but the journey to knowledge is gradual and we will not
reach answers for everything, because our mind does not have
enough free space to support it. But in this book you will find some
answers to some of the dilemmas of our existence.

Jesus was boring and unfriendly
INTRODUCTION
This is one of my books that really brings
something new. Treatises on the personality of Jesus
Christ are not usually found, mainly because I will show in
the Scriptures in the section of biographical books (called
Gospels) the most angry side of Jesus, a spirit in conflict
with his generation, a person who seems to be at odds
with the world, at odds with his family, at odds with his
followers, at odds with the leaders of his religion, at odds
with agents of the State, at odds with foreigners. The
Jesus revealed in the Bible is not the one commonly
preached in the pulpits. Jesus fulfilled his mission as
Savior, but it was very difficult for him to live with people.
In the following pages we will witness a spectacle of
Jesus' arguments and rude attitudes. From his childhood
to his last day, he came to cause strife!!! This is a book by
a Trinitarian Christian who believes in the perfection of
[ 7 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Jesus, but whose temperament causes astonishment due
to his constant harshness.
HE TOLD HIS MOTHER TO STAY ALONE
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of
Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. And Jesus
and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. And
when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to
him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman,
what have I to do with you? My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells
you.” John 2:1-5
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was present when
Jesus performed the first miracle, which was to turn water
into wine. That day, Mary thought she could be the
Messiah’s “stage assistant” and kept interfering,
suggesting that Jesus perform the miracle. Jesus did not
like it and gave a rude answer. He said that he had
nothing to do with her.
[ 8 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
It is certainly shocking for a son to speak like that
about his mother... He was God in human form and did
not accept Mary’s interference, even in good faith. For
those who are unaware of Jesus' divine character, they
certainly interpret Jesus' gesture as rude.
In any case, the Jesus presented in the Bible has
nothing to do with the gentle Jesus of artists and often
presented by churches. Jesus was rude to everyone and
did not spare his relatives, political and religious
authorities, his followers, or even those who came to him
[ 9 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
afflicted and suffering. After Jesus gave this short and
blunt answer, Mary never interfered in his ministry again.
THE LAMB OF GOD
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and
said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of
the world!” John 1:29
And I looked, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of
the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders,
stood a Lamb as if it had been slain, having seven horns
and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent
out into all the earth.
And he came and took the book out of the right hand of
him who sat on the throne.
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and
the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb,
having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of
odours, which are the prayers of the saints. Revelation
5:6-8
[ 10 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Jesus was the Lamb of God. Many, when speaking of
this title of Christ, associate it with a meek lamb.
Forgetting the aggressive character of the lamb. The lamb
is a symbol of a champion, a victor. He died as a lamb, but
conquered death and the Devil and will reign forever.
Courtship butting
The classic festival of heads popping between males
happens more during the time before the beginning of
estrus activity in sheep. The males know that the time for
mating is approaching and that only the fittest will be
chosen. The sheep will choose only the champions of
butting. On the other hand, nature is wise: the constant
butting contests are a way for the rams to ensure they are
in excellent physical shape to withstand the long
sequence of mating days. At the same time, the
champions are the strongest and thus make it clear who is
in charge in the region. Butting determines the hierarchy
of dominance.
[ 11 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Putting order in the house
Sheep are typically animals that live in herds. A
herd cannot exist without a leader. Therefore, males try to
establish a certain social order by headbutting, nudging
with their horns, pushing their shoulders, blocking and
mounting the weaker ones. It is a way of making it clear
that there is a leader in action. Often, a champion seems
to be defeated and starts to walk away, but - suddenly - he
charges at high speed towards his opponent, butting head
to head, causing a loud bang. Peacefully, nearby, the
females seem to always be smiling, seeing that the males
are fulfilling the role that was assigned to them by nature.
[ 12 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Cooling down the brutes
Sheep begin butting at a very young age. They
are born knowing that, one day, they will occupy a space
in the scene due to the power of their butts. So, there is no
way to prevent them from butting. To discourage head
butting, a person should not scratch, hit or stroke a sheep
on the head. The sheep believes that head petting or head
scratching is a clear challenge to its ancestral sport and
starts to behave aggressively. Suddenly, the sheep sees
the person scratching its head as just another member of
the flock and, as a member of the flock, needs to be
dominated.
It doesn't matter how big the animal is. It can be
small, but it can also be the only male around and will start
butting to maintain its dominant position.
Usually, the person will stroke the male's head.
The male seems to like it and gently pushes the person
who is then tempted to try to stop the male. Unable to stop
the animal, the person tries to force its head. Things get
worse, because the animal pushes even harder. The only
way, then, is to punch the sheep in the head. The magic
[ 13 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
moment has arrived for the sheep, who will then show that
he is the champion. He will gain a few feet of distance and
start butting. May the best man win!
Never turn your back on the enemy
No matter how friendly a ram may seem, it is
never trustworthy when it comes to butting. You should
never trust a ram! Hospitals are full of innocent victims of
butting. Butting may be innocent, yes, for the champion,
but not for a person! The truth is that no one should ever
turn their back on a ram.
Compare the ram to a warrior: it can cause
serious harm to you and any other companion in the pack.
[ 14 ]

The description I gave above about the character
and personality of the lamb serves as an analogy to
portray Jesus, who in the figurative language of the Bible
is often compared to a lamb. When he often says that like
a lamb he did not open his mouth, he speaks of his
courage and resignation to face death without crying,
screaming, scandal and nonconformity.
RACIST AND INSENSITIVE
Anyone who reads the description below without
recognizing that it is a Christian story will certainly accuse
the main character of racism and misogyny.
And behold, a Canaanite woman came out of the
same region and cried out, saying, "Have mercy on me,
Lord, Son of David; my daughter is grievously possessed
with a devil."
But he answered her not a word. And his
disciples came to him and begged him, saying, "Send her
away; for she cries after us."
[ 15 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
And he answered and said, "I was sent only to
the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Then she came and
worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But he answered
and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and
throw it to the dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord; yet even
the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”
Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is
your faith! May it be done for you as you desire.” And her
daughter was made well from that hour. Matthew 15:22-28
Jesus' behavior with a Canaanite woman was
shocking. Jews did not have relationships with
Canaanites. This woman came desperately to ask Jesus,
who was Jewish, for help, because this woman had a
[ 16 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
troubled daughter who was demon-possessed. We do not
know what evidence this demonic possession gave, but
that is not the point. When Jesus heard the cry of the
distressed woman, he did not feel compassion and
continued on his way. The woman did not stop asking for
help, until the apostles became upset and interceded on
her behalf with Jesus, asking him to help her and then
dismiss her, but not to ignore her. Jesus did not give in to
their arguments and claimed that he would not help her
because he was focused on his mission of only performing
miracles for genuine Israelites. The apostles did not know
what to say. But the Canaanite woman, with great
humility, listened to what was said and instead of cursing
Jesus and accusing him of being racist, she worshiped
him. She asked for help again and Jesus was even more
insensitive and rude. Now he compared her to a dog.
Because that was how the Jews saw the Gentiles. The
Canaanite woman was incredibly humble and Jesus
replied by saying that dogs eat the leftovers from their
master's table. Only then and only then did he bend over
backwards and release a miracle into that woman's life.
[ 17 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Jesus' personality was not easy. He could have
said that he could not perform miracles among the
Gentiles because that was not his mission, but gosh, he
was very upset that he could not help her... No, Jesus did
not say it nicely. He amplified the hatred between Jews
and Canaanites by saying what he thought about the
Gentiles!!!
Jesus being the ultimate expression of truth, he
did not have the filter of delicacy, kindness, cordiality, and
he did not seek to smooth over disagreements. The naked
truth hurts.
Whoever is not willing to humble themselves and
grovel before Christ, go ask someone else for help!!! But
remember that only he has eternal life. He is a snub
because he can, do you understand???
The Canaanite woman taught us a lesson in
humility: God does not bow down to men, men must bow
down to God.
JESUS NEVER SMILED...
[ 18 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
There is no record in the Bible that Jesus ever
smiled, laughed out loud, joked, or had a good laugh. I
have no doubt that he did laugh a few times. But the
profile that the biographical books of Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John paint of Jesus is not of a happy, smiling person.
[ 19 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
He seems like a very worried person, and not
without reason... he came with a mission to save the world
and carry the sin of the world on his shoulders. His pre-
existence was in heaven, as the eternal and uncreated
God. Now he himself submitted himself to a terrible plan to
save the world through blood sacrifice, a plan that he
himself invented and executed. The challenge was too
great and perhaps for this reason, he lived without finding
much fun in things... The tension of the spiritual battle did
not allow him to have much fun.
DAMN THE POOR...
While Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of
Simon the leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster
jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on Jesus'
head, as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples
saw this, they were indignant and asked: "Why this waste?
This perfume could have been sold for a high price, and
the money given to the poor." Realizing this, Jesus said to
[ 20 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done
a good deed for me.
For you will always have the poor with you, but
you will not always have me. When she poured this
perfume on my body, she did it in order to prepare me for
burial. Matthew 26:6-12
In his ministry, Jesus was constantly correcting his
disciples. In one of these cases, a woman poured
expensive perfume on Jesus. The event happened a few
days before his death, but the disciples did not know what
was coming. The disciples, knowing Jesus and knowing
that he was not vain, commented that the woman would
have done a better deed if she had donated the perfume,
because they would have sold it and bought food for the
poor. But Jesus, knowing that the disciples were criticizing
the woman's act, came to intimidate them, reprimanding
them for criticizing the woman. Jesus said that the
disciples were concerned about the poor, but the poor will
always exist and there will always be opportunities to help
the poor, but the presence of Christ on Earth was an
extraordinary moment in the world and she did a good
[ 21 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
deed for him. Only then did Jesus justify the woman's act,
saying that she was anticipating a burial ritual for him. But
the disciples were unaware of this fact. I understand that
Jesus was always giving a reality check to the people
around him. The disciples acted with good intentions, but
they were unaware of the prophetic character of that act.
Jesus always made an impact and demanded more from
people than they offered for life.
JESUS DID NOT WANT TO BE UNDERSTOOD
And the disciples came and said to him, "Why do
you speak to them in parables?" He answered and said to
them, "Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of
the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For to
him who has, more will be given, and he will have
abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has
will be taken away.
[ 22 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Therefore I speak to them in parables, because
they seeing do not see; and hearing they hear not, neither
understand. Matthew 13:10-13
Jesus always demonstrated cruelty, cruelty
in a good sense (Latin: crudelis, one who delights in
blood). He does not pity those who are cowardly. All living
beings have the obligation to love life and fight for it,
otherwise they do not deserve to live. Salvation through
the message of the Gospel is open to all men, but men
have the obligation to seek to know the message of the
Gospel and to practice it. The message of the Bible is not
simple, it is complicated and takes a lifetime to study it.
People are always looking for the easy way out, looking
for others to study it and tell them what is right and what is
wrong. They do not want to have the trouble of thinking...
Jesus said that he preached in parables so that not
everyone could understand the gospel. Furthermore, he
said that to those who have, God will give to them so that
they may have more, and to those who do not have, even
what they have will be taken from them. We have seen
lazy people who make excuses and wait for handouts
from the government's social programs, while others are
[ 23 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
enthusiastic about life, always looking for a way to work
and earn money, creating, innovating, and undertaking in
the midst of a crisis. God is not with those who make
excuses, but with those who seek opportunities. Those
who seek will find, but those who wait will achieve nothing.
Those who seek God will find, but those who keep making
excuses that there are many religions and that there is no
way to know what is right are just justifying themselves for
not seeking God. When Jesus said that he spoke so that
those who listened would not understand, it really hits a
nerve. He has no mercy for those who do not show true
appreciation for learning. When he sees that people are
unwilling to understand, then he makes sure that they do
not understand.
JESUS DID NOT COME ON A MISSION OF PEACE
Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I
did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come
to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter
[ 24 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her
mother-in-law;
And a man's enemies will be those of his own
household. He who loves father or mother more than me
is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter
more than me is not worthy of me. And he who does not
take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Matthew
10:34-38
Jesus did not come to bring peace to the world, as
I have seen many Christians preaching, trying to seduce
people with a warm and welcoming doctrine. Catholics,
spiritualists and even Protestants and evangelicals try to
seduce the religiously disoriented so that they have a
vision of a loving and conciliatory Jesus. Jesus came to
divide men because of Jesus, people would be
persecuted in their homes, hated by their families. Many
Christians who converted to Jesus were thrown out of
their homes, disinherited and despised. Parents stopped
talking to their children and children stopped talking to
their parents because of the Gospel. The Roman Empire
arrested and executed Christians, and Christians who
[ 25 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
refused to collaborate with Nazism were sent to
concentration camps. Thousands and thousands of
Christians were forced to convert to Islam or were killed.
The Catholic Church burned at the stake as many people
as they could for not agreeing with Catholic teachings.
Jesus was the reason why many died and others killed
their fellow men out of hatred for his name. The name of
Jesus caused division in the world and in the church.
Did Jesus feel guilty about being responsible for
so much strife??? Not at all... He ends this speech above
by saying that anyone who loves their family more than
him is not worthy of him. Jesus wants to be loved more
than your father and mother, and if you are not willing to
do this, then damn you, you are not worthy of him. Those
who have not received the message of salvation
increasingly see this Jesus presented in the Gospels as a
boring and unfriendly guy. Some even accuse him of
selfishness and self-centeredness. Jesus does not accept
being shared or being just another person in the oratory,
Jesus does not want to be the center of attention, he
wants to be the only one worthy of attention and for his
followers to be willing to live and die for him. He does not
[ 26 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
accept sharing his glory with another person, spiritual
entity, or supposed saints. He wants to be unique, and
often confrontation in civilization satisfies him, because
often the proof of love is only made when faced with the
threat of death. He wants to know who is willing to die for
his name. Jesus did not preach inclusion and always
demanded exclusivity from his followers. Jesus does not
accept sharing the spotlight with Buddha, Mohammed or
anyone else.
JESUS SPEAKING HARSHLY TO MARY
Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year for
the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years
old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of
the feast day. And when they returned, after the days
were ended, the child Jesus remained behind in
Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
[ 27 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
But supposing that he was coming in company,
they went a day's journey, and sought him among their
relatives and acquaintances;
And when they found him not, they returned to
Jerusalem seeking him. And it came to pass, that after
three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the
midst of the teachers, listening to them, and asking them
questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his
understanding and answers.
And when they saw him, they marveled, and his
mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like
this? Behold, your father and I have been anxiously
seeking you.” And he said to them, “Why did you seek
me? Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s
business?”
But they did not understand the words that he
spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to
Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept
all these things in her heart. Luke 2:41-51
In this passage from Jesus' life, we see that
he made the decision to leave his parents and stay in
Jerusalem to discuss the teachings of the Law of Moses
[ 28 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
and matters of the Jewish religion. It was common for
people to travel to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. Since
there were no buses or planes, a trip of just a few
kilometers could become a very difficult undertaking.
Jesus' parents, Joseph and Mary, were traveling in a
caravan of people returning from Jerusalem. After
traveling for a day, they realized that Jesus was not in the
caravan and decided to go back to look for him. It was
only after three days of searching that they found him. If
he were a normal person, he would deserve a good
review. The wretched brat!!! He left the caravan, did
whatever he wanted, and didn't care about his parents. He
would deserve a good beating to get his life together and
understand the meaning of respect and discipline. Yes, if
Jesus were a normal human being, he behaved
disrespectfully towards his parents and suffered financial
losses, because after all, his father had to go back to work
to earn a living. Imagine that Joseph and Mary had to
sleep in a hotel and spend extra on food. The Scriptures
do not reveal details of the facts and for this reason we do
not know where he slept or who he was with during these
days. The fact that he was found in the temple does not
[ 29 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
mean that he stayed there for several days. He already
had enough understanding to know that the caravan had
left and did not show sensitivity to the state of mind and
concern of his parents...
As if this were not enough, he gave a rude
response when questioned... Mary complained to Jesus
about why he had done this to her and her father, and the
boy replied that he was taking care of his father's
business??
The biographer Luke only says that Joseph and
Mary did not understand what he meant, after all what
business??? Luke, foreseeing that we would be shocked
by this, at the very least, inelegant and insubordinate
attitude of Jesus, only assures us that Jesus was a good
son and was subordinate to Joseph and Mary.
He only did not get beaten because Joseph and
Mary considered him to be the Son of God in human form,
because she kept in her heart the words he said to justify
his disappearance. This apparent unfriendly behavior of
Jesus can only be justified because he was not human
and occasionally showed his superior divine nature. This
[ 30 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
excess of independence reveals more than a defiant
character, but his heavenly nature.
DON'T CALL ME GOOD!!!
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good
Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus said
to him, Why do you call me good? There is none good but
One, that is, God. You know the commandments, Do not
commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear
false witness, Honor your father and your mother. And he
said, All these things I have kept from my youth. And
when Jesus heard it, he said to him, You still lack one
thing: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and
you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.
But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was
very rich. When Jesus saw that he was very sad, he said,
“How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the
kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through
the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter
the kingdom of God.” Those who heard this said, “Who
[ 31 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
then can be saved?” But he answered, “The things which
are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke
18:18-27
I honestly don't know why people started
talking to Jesus... It was hard to get away with it without
getting a reprimand... It was probably a tradition among
the wise men of the East to have these conversations with
their disciples, opponents and interlocutors, we see this
recurring in the lives of Greek philosophers. Any subject
that was brought up would be the subject of a moral
lesson. In this case, this rich young man came very
carefully to talk to Jesus and immediately called him
good... He got into trouble... Christian theology shows that
we all have a bad nature. Therefore, technically,
theologically, everyone is bad, no one is good. But even
so, we sometimes call someone a good man. The young
man probably knew this too, but he wanted to be nice... it
was no use... Jesus insisted that no one is good, but
wasn't Jesus God? Yes! But the rich young man certainly
didn't know this and was praising the man with the term
good. Then Jesus said that if he wanted to be saved, he
should seek to obey the commandments. At this point I
[ 32 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
ask my Protestant friends who think that all it takes is to
believe in Christ and that's it, why didn't Jesus tell the
young man to just believe in him? Because believing
without obeying is a fallacy, a mistake...
The rich young man says that he had already
been obeying God's commandments. Jesus doesn't
congratulate him, he comes with more criticism... Now
Jesus says that if he wants to be perfect, he should sell
his riches and give to the poor. That would be complicated
for everyone, wouldn't it? Jesus???
The text seems to indicate that Jesus considered
wealth a sin and there's no point in denying that the first
Christians had a certain aversion to worldly riches, even
though there were rich people among the Christians. I
remember Anthony of Egypt and his wonderful biography
and many others in the history of Christianity. I think that
no rich person should give up their riches, because a rich
person generates many jobs, rich entrepreneurs are what
we need most in our world. A rich entrepreneur will always
be generating wealth and distributing it through salaries,
jobs, investments, etc. But perhaps for that rich prince
[ 33 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
God's plan was different, and he could have been an
apostle if he had made that renunciation, but he didn't...
But Jesus continues to throw salt in the eyes
of the audience... Perhaps he didn't even wait for the
prince to leave and started criticizing him, saying that the
rich are like that... that this race will hardly enter heaven...
CONFRONTING PETER...
15When they had finished eating, Jesus asked
Simon Peter:
"Simon, son of John, do you love me more than
these others love me?"
"Yes, Lord, you know that I LOVE YOU!" he
answered.
Then Jesus said to him:
"Take care of my sheep!" 16And he asked a
second time:
"Simon, son of John, do you love me?"
Peter answered:
"Yes, Lord, you know that I LOVE YOU!"
[ 34 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
And Jesus said to him again:
"Take care of my sheep!" 17And he asked a third
time:
"Simon, son of John, do you LOVE ME?"
Then Peter was sad because Jesus had asked
him three times: "Do you love me?" And he answered:
— Lord, you know everything and you know that I
LIKE IT, Lord!
And Jesus commanded:
— Take care of my sheep. John 21.15-17
The book of John was originally written in Greek.
In Greek, there are four different words that are translated
by the word love, and they are known as Ágape, Phileo,
Stergo and Eros.
The book of John was originally written in Greek.
In Greek, there are four different words that are translated
by the word love, and they are known as Ágape, Phileo,
Stergo and Eros.
1) Agapao is to regard with reverence, to admire
for some good, to love in a higher way. In classical Greek
it meant to greet affectionately. Its great difference with
[ 35 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
phileo is that agapao has none of the warmth and
affection that characterizes phileo.
2) Phileo is to look at someone with affectionate
consideration, to have affection, friendship, to like; it can
even be translated as to caress, to kiss. It can be used of
the love between a husband and wife. In the New
Testament phileo is used to express the love of father and
mother and of son and daughter (Matthew 10:37). It is
used of Jesus' love for Lazarus (John 11:3,36) and is once
used of the beloved disciple (John 20:2).
3) Stergo is a verb that is more related to familial
affection. It would be properly translated into Portuguese
as to love with tenderness, to endure. Its most common
use is to describe the love between spouses, and between
parents and children.
4) Eros – used mainly for love between the sexes.
Both in Greek and its derivatives in Portuguese (eroticism,
erotic) show us that this verb has acquired a pejorative
connotation. Our word lover expresses this decadent idea
of vocabulary.
We know that the dialogue between Jesus and
Peter was not conducted in Greek, but rather in Aramaic.
[ 36 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
However, the author of the book (John) made a point of
presenting a difference in vocabulary. When Jesus asks
Peter if he loves him, Jesus uses the verb Agapao,
wanting to know if Peter is capable of loving him with all
his heart, deeply and unconditionally. However, Peter
responds that he loves him with the verb Phileo, that is,
Peter loved him incompletely.
Do you remember when Peter denied Jesus
before the crucifixion? Peter had told Jesus that he would
never deny him, but when the time came, he failed. The
Bible says that Peter wept bitterly after this. Now in John
21, where Christ has this conversation with Peter, Jesus
asks the same question three times, so that Peter would
reflect on the answer he was giving, and recognize that he
could not be faithful to God without Christ’s help.
But something surprising happens the third time
Jesus asks Peter “do you love me?” (John 21:17). Jesus
now uses the expression phileo, implying that Jesus
accepts Peter’s love for him, even though it is limited by
human frailty. So much so that the third time, Peter
responds: “Lord, you know that I love you (phileo)”. It is an
imperfect love, which needs God’s grace to become
[ 37 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Agape, but it is what Peter had to offer Jesus, having faith
that he would be transformed by God’s grace.
In fact, Jesus accepts Peter’s imperfect love. He
says to Peter: “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17). Obviously,
God wants us all to have Agape love in our hearts. But the
Christian life is a life of continuous learning. It is the grace
of God, through the Holy Spirit, working in our hearts
every day, that will transform our hearts until we reach the
ideal that God wants for our lives. By seeking God through
sincere prayer and humble study of the Bible every day,
we can allow the Holy Spirit to work in us.
As we can see from his firm and forceful
character, Jesus would not let Peter's denial of him before
the crucifixion go unnoticed. Jesus had a serious
conversation with Peter. Jesus must have grabbed Peter's
cheeks and looked deep into his eyes, shaking his body
and saying loudly: "So Peter... do you really love me,
young man????" Dramatizing the scene, we can see
Peter looking away from Jesus' piercing gaze, perhaps
looking at the ground, or even closing his eyes, saying
that he just liked Jesus... Not satisfied with Peter's answer,
[ 38 ]

Jesus did not have a physical appearance that
would scare anyone: he was probably thin, disheveled,
bearded, with messy hair, ugly, short, with a protruding
nose, and his eyebrows were two giant caterpillars fixed
above his eyes, but his gaze and his words made
everyone uncomfortable, without exception. Not even the
fact that he was part of the inner circle of the apostles
made the disciples feel completely at ease.
But what made so many people listen to this
nervous little guy???? He was God in human form,
developing the most incredible plan possible to save men
who would repent and believe in his name. Even after two
[ 43 ]

thousand years he continues to impact men in the same
way.
CONFRONTING THOMAS
A week later, his disciples were there again, and
Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were
locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,
"Peace be with you!" Then Jesus said to Thomas, "Put
your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and
put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas
said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus said to
him, "Have you believed because you have seen me?
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have
believed." John 20:26-29
Jesus learned that when Thomas learned that he
had risen, Thomas had scoffed at him, disbelieving in the
resurrection... Jesus waited for the opportunity and when
he met him a week later... He gave him a resounding
rebuke. Jesus never let an opportunity pass by to call out
those who made mistakes. He was really annoying and
[ 44 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
unfriendly. But what made him charismatic was the fact
that after rebuking, Jesus always opens the door for us to
try again and again...
The missionary Paulo Pereira from Canção Nova
made me see the biography of Thomas from a new
perspective, which I transcribe:
“In view of the attitude of the disciple Thomas
towards the fact of the Resurrection of Christ, we have
often heard, and thus, we have taken the side that this
disciple represents the lack of faith. Who does not
remember his phrase? “Unless I see in his hands the mark
of the nails, and put my finger where the nails were, and
put my hand into his side, I will not believe!” (cf. Jn 20:25).
[ 45 ]

The disciples’ strengths and weaknesses
Thomas, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles, who does
not feature prominently in the biblical writings, gains
importance at the end of the Gospel of John. Jesus “knew
those whom he called” (cf. John 13:18), and he did not
choose any of them without a reason. The Master invited
His disciples, knowing their strengths and weaknesses,
fundamental characteristics for the mission that each one
would follow. In his brief narrated participations, we find
important aspects of the personality of the Israelite
Thomas, a bold man.
In the well-known passage from the Gospel cited,
we have the presence of Thomas who actively
participated in the narrated event.
The context is as follows: Jesus died on the
Cross; he had been buried; and on Sunday the women
returned from the tomb reporting that Christ’s body was no
longer there. Then Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene,
[ 46 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
who immediately brought the news to everyone: “I have
seen the Lord.”
In verse 19, on the evening of that day, Sunday,
Jesus appeared to all the apostles who were gathered
behind closed doors and in fear. The text in question also
shows us the absence of one of them, Thomas, who was
not with the apostles. Where was he? He did not hide, and
while the others locked themselves away, he was out. Not
that it is better, but it shows that he was not afraid to
appear in public. He was not one to run away. Thomas is
also mentioned in other passages of the Gospel of John,
and his participation shows a strong characteristic: he was
not one to run away. In the Gospel of John, chapter 11,
we have the account of the death and resurrection of
Lazarus. Jesus decided to return to Judea, but His
disciples were fearful, since they had just threatened Him
in the same region. However, Thomas boldly stands with
the Master: “Let us also go, that we may die with Him” (cf.
Jn 11:16). The apostle is not afraid to follow the Master
and die with Him. Thomas trusts Jesus, loves Him and
has no reservations about the Master. His desire to follow
Him becomes clear when Christ speaks of the Father’s
[ 47 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
house and of a place that He will prepare for them. We
see Thomas question Jesus: “Lord, we do not know where
you are going. How can we know the way?” (cf. Jn 14:5).
Perhaps he did not stop at the experience lived by his
brothers and wanted to have his own experience. With all
the love he felt for Jesus, the desire to be by His side and
with the feeling of guilt (as the other apostles also felt) for
having abandoned Him in His agony, Thomas will not
accept just hearing from his brothers: “we have seen the
Lord”. For him, it was not enough to hear, because he did
not want to stop at the experience lived by Peter, John
and the others.
Thomas did not accept just listening to
Magdalene's story, which told in detail the moment she
met the Master. Thomas boldly expressed his deep
desire. Who knows, beyond the doubt in his brothers'
words, he revealed the personal agony of his soul? He
wanted to have his own experience, and listening to his
companions made his desire grow. Listening and
responding Thomas is a man who is not afraid, a man who
knows what he wants. Not only that, but he also asks the
[ 48 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Lord, exposes himself and, with that, commits himself; and
God does not fail to listen and respond to this man. Many
hear the experience of people who truly saw the Lord and
were enchanted by Him, filled with the desire to
experience the same thing, because a testimony filled
their hearts. Like Thomas, you need to ask God for what
you need to believe more. This man did not allow his faith
to stagnate, because seeing his weakness, his disbelief,
he placed his heart before God. Men who have no
reservations before the Lord are those who touch the
King’s intimacy. Thomas gave God his limits and He made
him enter into His intimacy. (1)
MARKING THE UNGRATEFUL...
On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus passed through
the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a
village, ten lepers came to him. They stood at a distance
and cried out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have mercy
on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves
to the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed. One of
them, when he saw that he was cleansed, came back,
[ 49 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
praising God in a loud voice. He fell at Jesus’ feet and
thanked him. This man was a Samaritan. Jesus asked,
“Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?
Was there not one found who returned and gave praise to
God, except this foreigner?”
Then he said to him, “Get up and go; your faith
has made you well.” Luke 17:11-19
Jesus was not a pessimist, but he paid attention to
the details of things and events. He did not seem to be the
type to take life “easy.” Jesus was uncompromising and
did not make concessions. He could have been happy that
out of the ten lepers who were cured, one came to thank
[ 50 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
and praise God, but no, he complained that 90% of those
who had benefited from the miracle did not give him the
attention he expected. Only after complaining about the
ungrateful did Jesus turn to the one who had returned and
bless him, reminding him that his faith had saved him.
Here are several ideas as to why the nine
lepers never returned to Jesus to give thanks. Remember,
these are just suggestions, but they reveal a lot about
human nature:
[ 51 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
One man waited to see if the healing was real.
One waited to see if it would last.
One said he would see Jesus later.
One decided he never really had leprosy.
One said he would have gotten better anyway.
One gave the glory to the priests.
One said, "Oh, well, Jesus didn't really do
anything."
One said, "Any rabbi could have done that."
One said, "I was already much better."
Think about it: Are we thanking God for all He has
done and is doing for us? Or are we, like the lepers,
rationalizing God's miracles?
DISREGARDING HIS FAMILY...
Then his brothers and his mother came, and they
were all right. and standing outside, they sent for him. And
the crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him,
“Look, your mother and your brothers are outside looking
[ 52 ]

for you.” And he answered them, “Who are my mother or
my brothers?” And looking around at those who sat about
him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For
whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and
mother.” Mark 3:31-35
Jesus never missed an opportunity to show
his bitterness... Any opening someone left in the dialogue
was already a reason for him to create a controversy.
There is no way to hide this characteristic of his
personality. He was an antagonistic type, whose every
dialogue quickly leads to a clash. Anyone who knows him
knows how annoying this type of person is. In fact, Jesus
was like this because he constantly wanted to make
[ 53 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
people reflect. He would not live long and his ministry
would be short-lived.
Jesus was talking to a group of his disciples when
someone said that his mother and brothers were outside
and asked to speak with him (Matthew 12:46). Normally,
you would think that most people would excuse
themselves and say, “I’ll be right back. My mother wants
to speak with me,” but Jesus is not typical at all. Instead of
stopping and going out to talk to his mother and brothers,
who had come to talk to him, he turns this question into
another question for the man who asked him this. He asks
a rhetorical question: who is my mother and who are my
brothers (Matthew 12:48)?
He is certainly not talking about His biological
mother or His brothers, who were really His half-brothers,
since they were related only through His mother. He is
talking about those who believe in Him and, believing in
Him, do what He asks. Jesus is not being disrespectful or
rude to His mother or His brothers. Perhaps after He said
this, He went off to talk to them. These verses do not say
that He also completely ignored her. We cannot read into
the text what is not there.
[ 54 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
In any case, Jesus is constantly scaring people
with His harsh words. His personality must have caused
people to feel strange, but the Jews were already
accustomed to prophets and their less than delicate ways.
Anyone who lived around a circle where there were
prophets already knew that accepting these rebukes
without fuss was part of this coexistence. Mary and Jesus'
brothers must have been accustomed to these attitudes
from Jesus during His ministry.
If Jesus were to look at you and my life, how
would He know that we are related to His Father? It would
[ 55 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
be obvious if we were obeying the Father, God the Father,
in heaven. If we were nothing like our heavenly Father,
and if we did not obey what God commanded, then we
clearly would not be Jesus’ brothers, because Jesus says
that whoever does the will of the Father is his mother,
brothers, and sisters (Matt. 12:50). In other words, there is
a family resemblance, not in the way we necessarily look,
but in the customs of the family: doing the will of God the
Father. If we are doing the will of the Father, then we must
be related to Him, and if we are related to God the Father
by adoption (Eph. 1:5), then we are certainly related to
Jesus.
MAKING DIALOGUE WITH PILATE DIFFICULT
[ 56 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Then Pilate entered the court again and called Jesus and said
to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered him,
“Do you say this about yourself, or did others tell you about
me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the
chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?”
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my
kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I
would not be delivered over to the Jews. But now my kingdom
is not from here.” Pilate then said to him, “Are you a king
then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I
was born, and for this I came into the world, that I should
testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my
voice.” John 18:33-37
Pilate had a reputation for being cruel and
did not care about Jewish causes, but in the case of Jesus
he appears to be cautious, asking questions and receiving
blunt answers from Jesus. Even so, Pilate does not lose
[ 57 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
his patience. When Pilate asks if Jesus called himself the
king of the Jews, Jesus even seemed a bit insolent when
he replied with another question in which he asked if
Pilate had thought of that question from his own head, or if
he had been induced by others... If a judge asked you a
question and you answered with another, you will certainly
be reprimanded.
I remember the case of the former president and
convicted criminal, Lula da Silva, who when questioned by
a judge who was replacing Judge Sérgio Moro in Curitiba,
asked a question and Lula replied with another: I want to
know if I am the owner of the Atibaia farm? The judge
reprimanded him and said that she was the one asking
questions there... In Jesus' day, such audacity could have
had much worse consequences. I do not see Jesus fearful
before Pilate's judgment and even knowing what awaited
him, he spoke firmly that he had been born with a unique
mission. Jesus did not put himself in a weakened position
in this dialogue. He maintained his proud and haughty
posture.
[ 58 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
The engraving below captivates me with regard to
Jesus' physical and physiognomic appearance. He was
ugly as hell, this was yet another irony of God, hiding
valuable things in clay vessels. Jesus could be ugly,
disheveled and even smelling of sour sweat... But there
was no one who did not marvel at that spectacular figure.
His interior had an impressive strength, even if his exterior
was weak.

PAID TAX, BUT COMPLAINING...
And when they came to Capernaum, those who
collected drachmas came to Peter and said, “Doesn’t your
teacher pay drachmas?” He said, “Yes.” And when he had
entered the house, Jesus went before him and said, “What
do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth
take tax or census? From their own children or from
strangers?” Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus
said to him, “Then the children are free. But so that we do
not offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take
the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth,
you will find a stater; take that and give it for me and you.
Matthew 17:24-27
See here again the character of Jesus... When
Peter entered the house to collect the tax money, Jesus
anticipated and began to question the Jewish collection of
the tax established by the Law of Moses. He knew that he
did not need to pay such tax because he was the Son of
God. He shouted at Peter and insisted on saying that he
[ 60 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
was exempt from paying that tax, but decided to pay it so
as not to cause scandal. He was indeed grumpy, he paid
it, but he argued with Peter. He could have said that he
did not need to pay it because he was the Son of God, but
he always added a riddle, a mocking tone and disdain for
the situation.
Emílio Silva Falcão made a good analysis of this
passage: After healing many people, Jesus arrives in
Capernaum and, indirectly, is questioned by tax collectors.
Let us examine some questions regarding this episode:
Who collected the taxes?
The tax collectors of the Temple. Peter was
known to them and to many of the inhabitants of
Capernaum. When they collected the two drachmas
tribute from Peter near his residence, where Jesus was
staying, they also asked if the Master paid the
aforementioned tax. Peter answered affirmatively because
Jesus paid and recommended the reimbursement of the
taxes even though he disagreed with the undue or abusive
taxes.
What should we think of the fact that Jesus
initiated the conversation about the tax with Peter?
[ 61 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
According to the narratives of the Gospels, Jesus
had great spiritual power by demonstrating that he knew
the thoughts and feelings of everyone with whom he
interacted (Luke 11:18-20). As soon as Peter entered his
residence, Jesus did not let his friend discuss the matter.
After all, Peter would not talk to the Master about it. He
would arrange the payment since he had the material
resources to do so. He would not bother the Rabbi with
matters of this nature, but Jesus did not depend materially
on Peter. On the contrary, he often tried to help him, as he
did when he caught a miraculous catch of fish (Luke 5:1-
11). Even after the crucifixion, Jesus helped him with his
fishing trip, according to the Gospel of John (21:1-14),
which tells of another fishing trip guided by Jesus, the so-
called “second miraculous catch”. In both cases, Peter did
not ask for Jesus’ help because he would never bother
him with material requests. However, the Sublime Friend
helped the Great Fisherman out of a generous initiative
and because he was grateful to his kind host.
Did Jesus live with Peter?
It is better to say that he was an illustrious guest
at Peter's house. When he intensified his public life, after
[ 62 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
leaving Nazareth, the Master went to stay at Peter's house
in Capernaum. This was in response to the invitation of
the devoted apostle. However, Jesus spent most of his
time visiting many places. In addition, it was the Master's
habit to pray for long periods of time on the shores of Lake
Galilee, in the valleys or on the top of the mountains.
What did the tribute of two drachmas mean? It
was a tax that was paid using the value of two Greek
coins, that is, two drachmas, or didrachmas, equivalent to
3.6 grams of silver. The didrachma tax was introduced by
Moses as ransom money, according to Exodus 30:11-13:
“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘When you take a
census of the Israelites, each one must give the Lord a
ransom for his life when he is counted. That way no
plague will come upon them when you count them. Each
one who is counted must contribute six grams, based on
the sanctuary shekel, which is twelve grams. The six
grams are an offering to the Lord. Everyone who is
registered, from twenty years old and upward, must give
this offering to the Lord. The rich must not contribute
more, nor the poor give less than six grams, when they
present the offering to the Lord as atonement for their life.
[ 63 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Receive the price of the atonement from the Israelites and
use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. Meeting. It will
be a memorial before the Lord in favor of the Israelites, to
make atonement for their lives.”
What was the difference between the drachma
and the stater?
The stater was equivalent to four drachmas, or 7.2
grams of silver. The denarius, a worker’s wage for one
day, was equivalent to almost 4 grams of silver. The talent
was equivalent to 6,000 drachmas, or 21,600 grams of
silver. As for the measure, a shekel was equivalent to 12
grams, or 20 gerahs.
For Jesus, who were the “sons and strangers”?
For Jesus, the temple tax should be transformed
into a voluntary and pleasurable donation and not a tribute
for a demonstration of faith. In Moses’ time, it could be
justified due to the primitive religious consciousness of the
people, but Jesus did not see this need in his time.
Spontaneous donation has a better effect than imposition
for supplying the material needs of religious institutions.
Strangers are those who have not yet learned the value of
generosity and therefore need to pay taxes to maintain
[ 64 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
religious and philanthropic institutions. Children are
already at an advanced level of consciousness and do not
need to be charged, as they have the initiative to
collaborate with joy and devotion to serve the entities of
faith and charity.
Why did Jesus decide to pay the tribute with a
coin taken from the mouth of a fish? Although he did not
want to “scandalize” by being against the tribute, the
Master wanted to demonstrate the logic of his thinking
about generous action. After all, the coin found in the fish
was not the result of earthly work, but of his power and
generosity.
Why would the coin be in the first fish and not
among the others that could have been caught?
Because the objective was not to fish, but to pay
the tribute. This demonstrates Jesus’ objective
personality. After all, the Master and his disciples had just
returned from a long journey, and so it would not be
appropriate to require Peter to check countless fish until
he discovered which one contained the stater.
[ 65 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Was the silver coin in the fish’s mouth the result of
some materialization through the phenomenon of
transportation?
I believe that God, knowing everything, had
already arranged for the fish to pick up the coin from the
bottom of the lake to fulfill that divine purpose.
Would there be a special type of fish for this
purpose?
[ 66 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Ichthyology, a branch of Zoology that studies fish,
identifies a species of fish that puts pebbles in its mouth to
replace the young it expels. It is a fish of the species
Hemichromis sacra. In this case, instead of a stone, some
fish of this species or a similar one could have grabbed
the coin found at the bottom of the lake. (2)
DISCOURAGING FOLLOWERS
And it came to pass, as they went on the way, that
one said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever
thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes,
and birds of the air have nests: but the Son of man hath
not where to lay his head. Luke 9:57,58
Jesus giveth no quarter to anyone. Everyone tells
us to be welcoming and friendly, but Jesus himself was
tough and tough all the time. At this moment someone
offers to follow him, and he doesn't seem excited, saying it
would be a difficult journey. Many of us Christians come to
Christ all excited and as time goes by, we become
[ 67 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
discouraged and disappointed because we thought it
would be a bed of roses. Jesus immediately revealed the
truth to the neophyte..
ENCOURAGING NOT TO GO TO THE FATHER'S FUNERAL
And he said to another, Follow me. But he said,
Lord, let me first go and bury my father. But Jesus said to
him, Let the dead bury their dead; but go and preach the
kingdom of God. Luke 9:59,60
[ 68 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Jesus was not one to be slack. He was rude and
antisocial when he advised his son to follow him and not
go to his father's funeral. Jesus was the master of
hyperbole, that is, he always exaggerated what he said
and his comparisons, causing an impact on his listeners.
Imagine a stranger telling you not to go to your father's
funeral, and then mocking the other people present at the
wake, saying that they were a bunch of dead people
burying another dead person.
It seems that Jesus is saying: He's dead, it's
over... life goes on, let's go. Even though the message of
[ 69 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
salvation precedes everything in this life, in practice none
of us Christians are willing to follow Jesus to this level of
detachment. The worst part is that Jesus is probably
telling the truth.
We understand that Jesus' teaching is quite harsh.
There is an added aggravating factor: burying his parents
while talking about the fourth commandment of the law.
Jesus will defend this commandment, but Jesus is against
the malicious speculations of the scribes.
Jesus states: Your calling is urgent, time is
pressing.
Jesus wants to tell the disciple that the calling is
urgent, time is pressing, the Kingdom of God is at the
door. Any delay in fulfilling this calling can have serious
consequences.
In conclusion, Jesus states: His disciple must
respond promptly to the calling to find true life, otherwise
he is condemned to remain among the dead. (3)

LEAVE THE HOUSE AND DON'T TALK TO ANYONE
And another said, Lord, I will follow thee: but let
me first bid farewell to them that are at home. And Jesus
said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow,
and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke
9:61,62
Follow Jesus with his coarse and rude speech...
Now someone commits to following him, but asks for a
little time so that he can say goodbye to his relatives, and
Jesus says that if he is really willing to follow him, he
should do so without giving any great importance to
saying goodbye to his relatives. Jesus gives such priority
to the content of his mission and his message, that he
demands extravagant things from those who are applying
to follow him. Nothing we do for him is too great. A carnal
mind will always see Jesus as boring and unfriendly,
antisocial, inconvenient, arrogant, pretentious, and ill-
[ 71 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
mannered. So??? Are you willing to follow him anyway???
Only He has the word of eternal life!!!
Someone wants to follow Christ, but asks for a
little time; he wants to tell his own family first. Jesus,
instead, uses an image from the world of agriculture to
convey what he asks of those who want to imitate him.
The image consists of the activity of plowing the land. At
that time, tractors did not exist, but the land was plowed
with oxen or other animals. The person leading the animal
could not be distracted, but had to pay attention to the
animals and the effort he was making with his own hands,
so that the plow would follow a straight line. Looking back
meant creating a crooked ditch, deviating from the right

The action of the 'called' who, before following
Christ, wants to go home and say goodbye to his family is
like someone who is plowing the land and does not
behave well, does not do his job well.
Christ's message does not consist in the fact that
someone who wants to follow the Christian life can no
longer 'give a damn' to his own family. Jesus wants to
[ 72 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
emphasize that if a person wants to become a Christian,
he does not need to wait or create a particular, special
situation, but must start immediately, doing well what he
normally does. This is the same meaning that the other
example has of a person to whom Jesus says "follow me".
He answers: "Let me first go and bury my father". And
Jesus answers: "Let the dead bury their own dead" (Luke
9:59-60).
It is not that Jesus does not want us to take care
of the people we live with, the people we love. He wants
us not to think that we can postpone our commitment, our
dedication, until an opportune time. The time is now. (4)
UNABLE TO STAND HUMAN
RELATIONSHIP
And when he came to his disciples, he saw a
great multitude about them, and some scribes disputing
with them. And immediately all the multitude, when they
saw him, were amazed, and ran to him, and saluted him.
And he asked the scribes, What are you disputing with
[ 73 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
them? And one of the multitude answered and said,
Master, I brought to you my son, who has a dumb spirit:
and wherever it seizes him, it tears him to pieces, and he
foams and grinds his teeth, and pines away: and I told
your disciples to cast him out, and they could not. And he
answered and said unto them, O faithless generation!
How long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer with
you? Bring it to me. Mark 9:14-19
This phrase: “How long shall I be with you”
indicates Jesus’ weariness in the face of men’s anguish
and suffering. Jesus had great compassion, but the pain
of others ended up falling on his shoulders and this was
becoming heavy. At the same time that he shows his
apparent bad mood with the phrase above, he also shows
his compassion when he says: “How long shall I suffer
with you?”
Dennis Allan makes an interesting reflection on
this exhaustion of God’s patience:
How long? God asks men
[ 74 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
The question “How long?” often comes from men
who seek help or who seek to understand God’s acts. But
God also asks this question. Generally, he asks “How
long?” to challenge men and make them think about the
consequences of their behavior. Let us consider some
examples:
● To evil leaders. God demands that the leaders
of his people continue with their lies and injustice. False
teachers in Jeremiah’s day, like many today, claimed to
have dreams and visions from God, when in fact they
spoke the inventions of their own hearts. God rebuked
them: “How long will this be in the hearts of the prophets
who proclaim lies, who speak the deceit of their own
hearts? … Behold, I am against the prophets, declares the
LORD, who speak their own word and say, ‘He says so.’
… For I did not send them or command them, and they
have not profited this people at all, declares the LORD”
(Jeremiah 23:26-32). Through Asaph, God condemned
unjust judges: “How long will you judge unjustly and take
sides with the wicked?” (Psalm 82:2).
[ 75 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
● To the unbelievers. God showed His frustration
with the people of Israel in the wilderness: “How long will
this people provoke Me and refuse to believe Me, despite
all the signs I have performed among them?” (Numbers
14:11). Despite all the evidence God presented, the
people still refused to submit to Him. And today, despite
all the evidence around us, many people refuse to admit
the existence of God. How long will He be patient?
● To the rebellious and disobedient. God asked
the proud king of Egypt, “How long will you refuse to
humble yourself before Me?” (Exodus 10:3). To the
Israelites, after they left Egypt, God asked, “How long will
you refuse to keep My commandments?” (Exodus 16:28).
800 years later, He looked at the people living in
Jerusalem and said, “I have seen your abominations on
the hills and in the fields—your adulteries, your neighings,
and the lewdness of your prostitution. Woe to you,
Jerusalem! How long will you not be clean?” (Jeremiah
13:27). In the same book, He asked, “How long will you
wander, O backsliding daughter?” (31:22).
● Those who are stubborn and refuse to change.
One of God’s great frustrations in dealing with men is the
[ 76 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
stubbornness of men who refuse to change their thoughts
and behavior. Israel, after centuries of correction and
instruction, insisted on maintaining their idolatrous
practices. God asked, “How long will they be incapable of
innocence?” (Hosea 8:5). They had become so seared by
sin that it became nearly impossible for them to repent.
Jerusalem came to the same extreme, and God spoke: “O
Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you
may be saved. How long will you entertain your evil
thoughts?” (Jeremiah 4:14). Wisdom warns those who
refuse instruction: “How long, O fools, will you love folly?
And you scoffers, will you desire to be scorned? And you
fools, will you hate knowledge?” (Proverbs 1:22). But
many, like Esau, are so consumed with worldly things that
they cannot shake off their folly (Hebrews 12:17). The
consequences are very serious: “Because they hated
knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD; they
would none of my counsel and despised all my reproof.
Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own ways and be
filled with their own devices. Fools are killed by their own
error, and fools are destroyed by their own good”
(Proverbs 1:29-32).
[ 77 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
● To the lazy. Man was created to serve, to work.
Right at the beginning of human existence, God gave him
the responsibility to work. Therefore, laziness is a
demonstration of rebellion against the Creator. After citing
the good example of the ant’s dedication to her work, the
author of Proverbs asks these questions: “How long will
you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your
sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the
hands to rest— poverty will come on you like a thief, and
want like an armed man” (Proverbs 6:9-11).
[ 78 ]

God’s Patience is Exhausted
God is longsuffering and merciful, but when man
refuses to change, he reaches the end of his patience.
When the cowardly spies refused to take possession of
the promised land, God asked, “How long shall I bear with
this evil congregation, which they murmur against me? I
have heard the murmurings which the children of Israel
murmur against me” (Numbers 14:27). When Jesus’
disciples were slow to understand and apply his
teachings, he expressed the same frustration: “O faithless
and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?
How long shall I bear with you?” (Matthew 17:17).
Two questions remain for each of us: 1. How long
shall we delay in correcting the errors in our lives? 2. How
long will God be patient with us? (5)
CURSING EVEN THE PLANTS
[ 79 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
And in the morning he returned to the city, and
was hungry; And seeing a fig tree by the road, he went to
it and found nothing on it but leaves. And he said to it,
“May no fruit grow on you ever again!” And immediately
the fig tree withered away.
When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying,
“How did the fig tree wither away so quickly?” But Jesus
answered and said to them, “Truly I tell you, if you have
faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done
to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be
removed and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. Matthew
21:18-21
Jesus seemed like an irritated and short-tempered
person. He looked for a fruit on the tree and did not find
any, so he struck it down with a curse. The little thing
withered away immediately... I can imagine these
environmentalists from Greenland following Jesus and
seeing an “ecological” scene like this...
Jesus did what he wanted and did not care about
the evil of the 21st century, the so-called “political
correctness.” This passage is so culturally and morally
[ 80 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
shocking that even Wikipedia devoted an article to the
case of Jesus cursing the fig tree:
Traditional Christian exegesis of this account
includes affirming Jesus' divinity by demonstrating his
authority over nature. Traditional Reformed thought holds
that this event was a sign given by Jesus about the end of
the exclusive covenant between God and the Jews (see
supersessionism). From this viewpoint, the tree would be
a metaphor for the Jewish nation, which would have a
magnificent outward appearance (the leaves) but was no
longer producing anything for the glory of God (the lack of
fruit). This interpretation is linked to the Parable of the
Barren Fig Tree.
Since neither Matthew nor Mark explain why Jesus
expected to find fruit on the tree after they had explicitly
explained that it was not the season for figs, skeptics often
present this story as evidence of a contradiction in the
gospels. Charles Bradlaugh has suggested that cursing a
living tree would be contrary to the character of the
supposedly benign creator.
[ 81 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
F. F. Bruce states that fig trees produce 'taqsh'
ahead of time if they are to bear fruit at the right time.
Since this one did not, it was a sign that it would not bear
any fruit that year. Craig Keener has used this passage as
a way of dating Matthew's Gospel to an early date, stating
that only someone with a strong knowledge of the Mount
of Olives would have known that his fig trees are in full
leaf around Passover time. (6)
[ 82 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
JESUS WAS DISTRUSTING AND AWKWARD
But Jesus himself did not trust them, because he
knew everyone; and he did not need anyone to testify
about man, for he knew what was in man. John 2:24,25
Jesus was still a suspicious person. Everyone
knows how uncomfortable it is to be around someone who
looks at you with suspicion. Jesus was a grinding machine
with his penetrating looks. When reading the biographical
books (Gospels) anyone can see how Jesus was
[ 83 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
apparently bad-tempered, always playing tricks on
everyone. He did not even like easy compliments.
JESUS WAS NOT AT ALL POLITICAL
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of
your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there
is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks from his own
nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 59 Then they
picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself
and went out of the temple, passing through the midst of
them, and so went away. John 8.44, 59
While the Catholic Church grew through religious
syncretism, that is, taking a representation of a pagan
religion and associating it with a Christian truth... Jesus,
with his truculent way, reached the Jews by kicking the
bucket, saying that they were children of the Devil. He
could use a thousand bridges to subtly attract the Jews to
his messianism, but he kept looking for where he had a
[ 84 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
wound to throw salt on. In this passage above, the Jews
felt so offended that they tried to stone him.
JESUS, THE UNBEARABLE
60 Therefore many of his disciples, when they
heard this, said: This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and
walked no more with him. John 6.60, 66
There were days when Jesus was sharper with his tongue
than other days, and then he would even criticize the
miracles he performed and how people only followed him
in search of material advantages, and he would start to
exalt himself and even send the audience away. He would
leave people embarrassed and others angry. He never
promised that following him would be a bed of roses and
often he allows us to go through the desert, through fire
and through the sea to prove our character. Jesus never
spoke like a prophet or preacher, he spoke with the
authority of God himself. Those who read the Bible and
[ 85 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
find the God of the Old Testament angry and demanding, I
think they need to take a closer look at Jesus' personality
profile.
JESUS, A HARD MAN
But he who had received the one talent came and said,
"Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did
not sow and gathering where you did not scatter; so I went
and hid your talent in the ground; here is what is yours."
But his lord answered and said unto him, O wicked and
slothful servant! knewest thou that I reap where I sowed
not, and gather where I have not scattered seed?
Then thou shouldest have put my money to the
exchangers, and when I came, I should have received
mine with interest.
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him
which hath ten talents. Matthew 25:24-28
Many parables were representations of spiritual truths, if
not all of them. In this case, Jesus himself is represented
in the Lord who gave talents to his servants. Jesus himself
[ 86 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
is portrayed in the parable as being a harsh master. I do
not know who instilled in people that Jesus is gentle and
understanding. This parable of the talents reveals his
profile as a tormentor. I think it is better that we review our
concepts of Jesus so that no one is caught off guard at the
Final Judgment.
JESUS A SHARP CRITIC
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples,
Saying:
The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat.
Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and
do; but do not do what they do, for they say, and do not.
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne,
and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will
not move them with one finger.
[ 87 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
And they do all their works to be seen by men. For they
wear broad phylacteries and enlarge the fringes of their
garments.
And they love the best places at feasts and the best seats
in the synagogues,
And greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by
men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
But do not be called Rabbi, for one is your Teacher, the
Christ, and you are all brothers.
And call no man your father upon earth: for one is your
Father, which is in heaven.
Neither call yourselves masters: for one is your Master,
even Christ.
He that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
And he that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that
humbleth himself shall be exalted.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for
ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; and ye
[ 88 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are
entering to go in.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye
devour widows' houses, for a pretense of long prayer: for
ye shall receive the greater condemnation.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you compass sea
and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him
twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.
Woe to you, blind guides! For you say, “Whoever swears by the
temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he
is a debtor.”
You fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that
sanctifies the gold?
And whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by
the gift that is on the altar, he is a debtor.
You fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that
sanctifies the gift?
Therefore whoever swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything
on it.
And whoever swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who
dwells in it.
And whoever swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by
Him who sits on it.
[ 89 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithes of
mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of
the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done,
and not to neglect the others.
You blind guides! You strain out a gnat and swallow a camel.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the
outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and
excess.
You blind Pharisee! First cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that
the outside of the cup and dish may also be clean.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like
whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but
within are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness.
So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full
of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the
tombs of the prophets and adorn the sepulchres of the righteous,
And say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have
associated with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'
So you yourselves testify that you are the children of those who
murdered the prophets.
Fill up therefore the measure of your fathers.
You serpents, you generation of vipers! How can you escape the
damnation of hell?
Therefore, behold, I send you prophets and wise men and scribes;
some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will kill
[ 90 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
and crucify. and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues
and persecute from city to city,
so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth,
from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of
Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those
sent to you, how often I wanted to gather your children together, as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing!
Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he
who comes in the name of the Lord.'" Matthew 23:1-39
Jesus came into the world among the
chosen people of Israel, at a time when the Jews were
much more spiritualized, but even so, Jesus arrived
complaining about barbarity. Anyone who reads the entire
Bible realizes that the Jews in Jesus' time were more
devoted to God, but this still did not please Jesus. This
chapter 23 of Matthew is the most profound criticism that
Jesus made of the spiritual elite of Israel. Jesus made
more and more demands of the religious leaders of his
time, and as I said, it was a time of deep spiritualization of
the Jews who were anxiously awaiting the Messiah. But
[ 91 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Jesus showed complete dissatisfaction. He practically
humiliated the religious leaders in front of their flocks...
JESUS ATTACKED HIS CHALLENGERS
And he found in the temple those who sold oxen,
sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting.
And he made a whip of cords, and drove them all
out of the temple, both the oxen and the sheep, and
scattered the money-changers' coins, and overturned their
tables.
And he said to those who sold doves, “Take these
things away from here, and stop making my Father’s
house a house of merchandise.”
And his disciples remembered that it was written,
“Zeal for your house has eaten me up.” John 2:14-17
[ 92 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
This passage from the Bible shows that Jesus used
physical violence to impose his will in the temple. As God
in human form, he did not follow Roman or Jewish laws
and used his supreme authority to kick and kick the sellers
out of the temple. He certainly arrived with a large group,
larger than the twelve apostles, and they managed to
expel both those who were selling and those who were
buying and doing business in the temple in Jerusalem.
These actions only increased the antipathy that the
religious leaders felt for him. Jesus caused harm to
business, at least momentarily.

JESUS GOT ANNOYED DURING THE WATCH
[ 94 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
Then he returned to his disciples and found them
sleeping. He said to Peter, “Could you not keep watch with
me for even one hour?
Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into
temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak.”
He went away again and prayed, “My Father, if
this cup cannot pass away unless I drink it, your will be
done.”
He came back again and found them sleeping, for
their eyes were heavy.
He left them again and went away to pray for the
third time, saying the same thing.
Then he returned to the disciples and said to
them, “Sleep on now and take your rest. The hour is at
[ 95 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the
hands of sinners.” Matthew 26:40-45
Jesus was not at all understanding, like those
mothers who justify their children’s inability to do their
homework by laziness and lack of dedication. Jesus
prayed and when the disciples fell asleep, he went over
and gave them a dressing down. It was no use, the
companions went back to sleep right after Jesus turned
his back. The disciples were unable to stay awake during
the night vigil. Jesus never overlooks the mistakes of his
followers. He always reprimands.
HE WAS RUDE EVEN TO THE
WISE
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by night and said to him,
“Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God;
[ 96 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is
with him.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly,
I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the
kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his
mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most
assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and
the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which
is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the
Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must
be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you
hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes
from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of
the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How
can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him,
“Are you a teacher of Israel, and you do not know these
things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we
know, and testify of what we have seen, and you do not
[ 97 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
accept our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and
you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you
heavenly things?” John 3:1-12 Jesus was never
concerned about making others feel embarrassed. When
he spoke a teaching that the wise Nicodemus did not
understand, he made fun of him, saying that he was a
teacher and did not know that teaching. Nicodemus was
certainly embarrassed, but Jesus never worried about
making others comfortable.
CONCLUSION
By titling the book and labeling Jesus as boring
and unfriendly, it is not a lack of respect, but a clear
conclusion about the relationship of normal people with a
person who is more than perfectionist, a perfect person,
since Jesus was the perfect man and had the divine
nature in his being. Jesus' demands and his holy vision
made his relationship with men always boiling. Jesus was
[ 98 ]
Jesus was boring and unfriendly
always calling attention to himself, which made him a
purgative; he was only harassed by people because of his
supernatural gifts. His death was a conspiracy that
involved his disciple, the Jews, the people, the Romans
and the rulers. In short, he died for everyone and at the
hands of everyone..

Jesus was boring and unfriendly

  • 2. Jesus was boring and unfriendly PURPOSE OF THIS WORK This book, like the others I have published, aims to lead people to become better, to love God above all else and their neighbors as themselves. My works are not intended to entertain, but to provoke reflection on our existence. In God there is an answer for everything, but the journey to knowledge is gradual and we will not reach answers for everything, because our mind does not have enough free space to support it. But in this book you will find some answers to some of the dilemmas of our existence. AUTHOR: Escriba de Cristo has a degree in Biological Sciences and History from the Metropolitan University of Santos; a degree in Business Management from UNIMONTE in Santos; a Bachelor's degree in Theology from the Faculty of the Assemblies of God in Santos; a technical degree in Judicial Police from USP and two diplomas from Harvard University in the USA on Pauline Epistles and Manuscripts of the Middle Ages. He is a professional radio broadcaster from SENAC in Santos, recognized by the Ministry of Labor. Born in Itabaiana/SE, in 1969. In 1990 he founded the Universal Evangelism Center; today he dedicates himself to writing books and to the ministry of intercession. He has no interest in giving lectures or participating in events, avoiding social interaction. CONTACT: Whatsapp Central de Ensinos Bíblicos with audios, lectures and texts by Escriba de Cristo [ 2 ]

  • 7. Jesus was boring and unfriendly INTRODUCTION This is one of my books that really brings something new. Treatises on the personality of Jesus Christ are not usually found, mainly because I will show in the Scriptures in the section of biographical books (called Gospels) the most angry side of Jesus, a spirit in conflict with his generation, a person who seems to be at odds with the world, at odds with his family, at odds with his followers, at odds with the leaders of his religion, at odds with agents of the State, at odds with foreigners. The Jesus revealed in the Bible is not the one commonly preached in the pulpits. Jesus fulfilled his mission as Savior, but it was very difficult for him to live with people. In the following pages we will witness a spectacle of Jesus' arguments and rude attitudes. From his childhood to his last day, he came to cause strife!!! This is a book by a Trinitarian Christian who believes in the perfection of [ 7 ]
  • 8. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Jesus, but whose temperament causes astonishment due to his constant harshness. HE TOLD HIS MOTHER TO STAY ALONE On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. And Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what have I to do with you? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” John 2:1-5 Mary, the mother of Jesus, was present when Jesus performed the first miracle, which was to turn water into wine. That day, Mary thought she could be the Messiah’s “stage assistant” and kept interfering, suggesting that Jesus perform the miracle. Jesus did not like it and gave a rude answer. He said that he had nothing to do with her. [ 8 ]
  • 9. Jesus was boring and unfriendly It is certainly shocking for a son to speak like that about his mother... He was God in human form and did not accept Mary’s interference, even in good faith. For those who are unaware of Jesus' divine character, they certainly interpret Jesus' gesture as rude. In any case, the Jesus presented in the Bible has nothing to do with the gentle Jesus of artists and often presented by churches. Jesus was rude to everyone and did not spare his relatives, political and religious authorities, his followers, or even those who came to him [ 9 ]
  • 10. Jesus was boring and unfriendly afflicted and suffering. After Jesus gave this short and blunt answer, Mary never interfered in his ministry again. THE LAMB OF GOD The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 And I looked, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as if it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of the saints. Revelation 5:6-8 [ 10 ]
  • 11. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Jesus was the Lamb of God. Many, when speaking of this title of Christ, associate it with a meek lamb. Forgetting the aggressive character of the lamb. The lamb is a symbol of a champion, a victor. He died as a lamb, but conquered death and the Devil and will reign forever. Courtship butting The classic festival of heads popping between males happens more during the time before the beginning of estrus activity in sheep. The males know that the time for mating is approaching and that only the fittest will be chosen. The sheep will choose only the champions of butting. On the other hand, nature is wise: the constant butting contests are a way for the rams to ensure they are in excellent physical shape to withstand the long sequence of mating days. At the same time, the champions are the strongest and thus make it clear who is in charge in the region. Butting determines the hierarchy of dominance. [ 11 ]
  • 12. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Putting order in the house Sheep are typically animals that live in herds. A herd cannot exist without a leader. Therefore, males try to establish a certain social order by headbutting, nudging with their horns, pushing their shoulders, blocking and mounting the weaker ones. It is a way of making it clear that there is a leader in action. Often, a champion seems to be defeated and starts to walk away, but - suddenly - he charges at high speed towards his opponent, butting head to head, causing a loud bang. Peacefully, nearby, the females seem to always be smiling, seeing that the males are fulfilling the role that was assigned to them by nature. [ 12 ]
  • 13. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Cooling down the brutes Sheep begin butting at a very young age. They are born knowing that, one day, they will occupy a space in the scene due to the power of their butts. So, there is no way to prevent them from butting. To discourage head butting, a person should not scratch, hit or stroke a sheep on the head. The sheep believes that head petting or head scratching is a clear challenge to its ancestral sport and starts to behave aggressively. Suddenly, the sheep sees the person scratching its head as just another member of the flock and, as a member of the flock, needs to be dominated. It doesn't matter how big the animal is. It can be small, but it can also be the only male around and will start butting to maintain its dominant position. Usually, the person will stroke the male's head. The male seems to like it and gently pushes the person who is then tempted to try to stop the male. Unable to stop the animal, the person tries to force its head. Things get worse, because the animal pushes even harder. The only way, then, is to punch the sheep in the head. The magic [ 13 ]
  • 14. Jesus was boring and unfriendly moment has arrived for the sheep, who will then show that he is the champion. He will gain a few feet of distance and start butting. May the best man win! Never turn your back on the enemy No matter how friendly a ram may seem, it is never trustworthy when it comes to butting. You should never trust a ram! Hospitals are full of innocent victims of butting. Butting may be innocent, yes, for the champion, but not for a person! The truth is that no one should ever turn their back on a ram. Compare the ram to a warrior: it can cause serious harm to you and any other companion in the pack. [ 14 ]
  • 15. Jesus was boring and unfriendly The description I gave above about the character and personality of the lamb serves as an analogy to portray Jesus, who in the figurative language of the Bible is often compared to a lamb. When he often says that like a lamb he did not open his mouth, he speaks of his courage and resignation to face death without crying, screaming, scandal and nonconformity. RACIST AND INSENSITIVE Anyone who reads the description below without recognizing that it is a Christian story will certainly accuse the main character of racism and misogyny. And behold, a Canaanite woman came out of the same region and cried out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is grievously possessed with a devil." But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came to him and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us." [ 15 ]
  • 16. Jesus was boring and unfriendly And he answered and said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Then she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But he answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! May it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was made well from that hour. Matthew 15:22-28 Jesus' behavior with a Canaanite woman was shocking. Jews did not have relationships with Canaanites. This woman came desperately to ask Jesus, who was Jewish, for help, because this woman had a [ 16 ]
  • 17. Jesus was boring and unfriendly troubled daughter who was demon-possessed. We do not know what evidence this demonic possession gave, but that is not the point. When Jesus heard the cry of the distressed woman, he did not feel compassion and continued on his way. The woman did not stop asking for help, until the apostles became upset and interceded on her behalf with Jesus, asking him to help her and then dismiss her, but not to ignore her. Jesus did not give in to their arguments and claimed that he would not help her because he was focused on his mission of only performing miracles for genuine Israelites. The apostles did not know what to say. But the Canaanite woman, with great humility, listened to what was said and instead of cursing Jesus and accusing him of being racist, she worshiped him. She asked for help again and Jesus was even more insensitive and rude. Now he compared her to a dog. Because that was how the Jews saw the Gentiles. The Canaanite woman was incredibly humble and Jesus replied by saying that dogs eat the leftovers from their master's table. Only then and only then did he bend over backwards and release a miracle into that woman's life. [ 17 ]
  • 18. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Jesus' personality was not easy. He could have said that he could not perform miracles among the Gentiles because that was not his mission, but gosh, he was very upset that he could not help her... No, Jesus did not say it nicely. He amplified the hatred between Jews and Canaanites by saying what he thought about the Gentiles!!! Jesus being the ultimate expression of truth, he did not have the filter of delicacy, kindness, cordiality, and he did not seek to smooth over disagreements. The naked truth hurts. Whoever is not willing to humble themselves and grovel before Christ, go ask someone else for help!!! But remember that only he has eternal life. He is a snub because he can, do you understand??? The Canaanite woman taught us a lesson in humility: God does not bow down to men, men must bow down to God. JESUS NEVER SMILED... [ 18 ]
  • 19. Jesus was boring and unfriendly There is no record in the Bible that Jesus ever smiled, laughed out loud, joked, or had a good laugh. I have no doubt that he did laugh a few times. But the profile that the biographical books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John paint of Jesus is not of a happy, smiling person. [ 19 ]
  • 20. Jesus was boring and unfriendly He seems like a very worried person, and not without reason... he came with a mission to save the world and carry the sin of the world on his shoulders. His pre- existence was in heaven, as the eternal and uncreated God. Now he himself submitted himself to a terrible plan to save the world through blood sacrifice, a plan that he himself invented and executed. The challenge was too great and perhaps for this reason, he lived without finding much fun in things... The tension of the spiritual battle did not allow him to have much fun. DAMN THE POOR... While Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on Jesus' head, as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant and asked: "Why this waste? This perfume could have been sold for a high price, and the money given to the poor." Realizing this, Jesus said to [ 20 ]

When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it in order to prepare me for burial. Matthew 26:6-12 In his ministry, Jesus was constantly correcting his disciples. In one of these cases, a woman poured expensive perfume on Jesus. The event happened a few days before his death, but the disciples did not know what was coming. The disciples, knowing Jesus and knowing that he was not vain, commented that the woman would have done a better deed if she had donated the perfume, because they would have sold it and bought food for the poor. But Jesus, knowing that the disciples were criticizing the woman's act, came to intimidate them, reprimanding them for criticizing the woman. Jesus said that the disciples were concerned about the poor, but the poor will always exist and there will always be opportunities to help the poor, but the presence of Christ on Earth was an extraordinary moment in the world and she did a good [ 21 ]
  • 22. Jesus was boring and unfriendly deed for him. Only then did Jesus justify the woman's act, saying that she was anticipating a burial ritual for him. But the disciples were unaware of this fact. I understand that Jesus was always giving a reality check to the people around him. The disciples acted with good intentions, but they were unaware of the prophetic character of that act. Jesus always made an impact and demanded more from people than they offered for life. JESUS DID NOT WANT TO BE UNDERSTOOD And the disciples came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?" He answered and said to them, "Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For to him who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. [ 22 ]
  • 23. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Therefore I speak to them in parables, because they seeing do not see; and hearing they hear not, neither understand. Matthew 13:10-13 Jesus always demonstrated cruelty, cruelty in a good sense (Latin: crudelis, one who delights in blood). He does not pity those who are cowardly. All living beings have the obligation to love life and fight for it, otherwise they do not deserve to live. Salvation through the message of the Gospel is open to all men, but men have the obligation to seek to know the message of the Gospel and to practice it. The message of the Bible is not simple, it is complicated and takes a lifetime to study it. People are always looking for the easy way out, looking for others to study it and tell them what is right and what is wrong. They do not want to have the trouble of thinking... Jesus said that he preached in parables so that not everyone could understand the gospel. Furthermore, he said that to those who have, God will give to them so that they may have more, and to those who do not have, even what they have will be taken from them. We have seen lazy people who make excuses and wait for handouts from the government's social programs, while others are [ 23 ]
  • 24. Jesus was boring and unfriendly enthusiastic about life, always looking for a way to work and earn money, creating, innovating, and undertaking in the midst of a crisis. God is not with those who make excuses, but with those who seek opportunities. Those who seek will find, but those who wait will achieve nothing. Those who seek God will find, but those who keep making excuses that there are many religions and that there is no way to know what is right are just justifying themselves for not seeking God. When Jesus said that he spoke so that those who listened would not understand, it really hits a nerve. He has no mercy for those who do not show true appreciation for learning. When he sees that people are unwilling to understand, then he makes sure that they do not understand. JESUS DID NOT COME ON A MISSION OF PEACE Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter [ 24 ]

He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:34-38 Jesus did not come to bring peace to the world, as I have seen many Christians preaching, trying to seduce people with a warm and welcoming doctrine. Catholics, spiritualists and even Protestants and evangelicals try to seduce the religiously disoriented so that they have a vision of a loving and conciliatory Jesus. Jesus came to divide men because of Jesus, people would be persecuted in their homes, hated by their families. Many Christians who converted to Jesus were thrown out of their homes, disinherited and despised. Parents stopped talking to their children and children stopped talking to their parents because of the Gospel. The Roman Empire arrested and executed Christians, and Christians who [ 25 ]

The Catholic Church burned at the stake as many people as they could for not agreeing with Catholic teachings. Jesus was the reason why many died and others killed their fellow men out of hatred for his name. The name of Jesus caused division in the world and in the church. Did Jesus feel guilty about being responsible for so much strife??? Not at all... He ends this speech above by saying that anyone who loves their family more than him is not worthy of him. Jesus wants to be loved more than your father and mother, and if you are not willing to do this, then damn you, you are not worthy of him. Those who have not received the message of salvation increasingly see this Jesus presented in the Gospels as a boring and unfriendly guy. Some even accuse him of selfishness and self-centeredness. Jesus does not accept being shared or being just another person in the oratory, Jesus does not want to be the center of attention, he wants to be the only one worthy of attention and for his followers to be willing to live and die for him. He does not [ 26 ]

He wants to be unique, and often confrontation in civilization satisfies him, because often the proof of love is only made when faced with the threat of death. He wants to know who is willing to die for his name. Jesus did not preach inclusion and always demanded exclusivity from his followers. Jesus does not accept sharing the spotlight with Buddha, Mohammed or anyone else. JESUS SPEAKING HARSHLY TO MARY Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year for the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast day. Jesus was boring and unfriendly But supposing that he was coming in company, they went a day's journey, and sought him among their relatives and acquaintances; And when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they marveled, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Behold, your father and I have been anxiously seeking you.” And he said to them, “Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business?” But they did not understand the words that he spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart. • 29. Jesus was boring and unfriendly and matters of the Jewish religion. It was common for people to travel to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. Since there were no buses or planes, a trip of just a few kilometers could become a very difficult undertaking. Jesus' parents, Joseph and Mary, were traveling in a caravan of people returning from Jerusalem. After traveling for a day, they realized that Jesus was not in the caravan and decided to go back to look for him. It was only after three days of searching that they found him. If he were a normal person, he would deserve a good review. The wretched brat!!! He left the caravan, did whatever he wanted, and didn't care about his parents. He would deserve a good beating to get his life together and understand the meaning of respect and discipline. Yes, if Jesus were a normal human being, he behaved disrespectfully towards his parents and suffered financial losses, because after all, his father had to go back to work to earn a living. Imagine that Joseph and Mary had to sleep in a hotel and spend extra on food. The Scriptures do not reveal details of the facts and for this reason we do not know where he slept or who he was with during these days. The fact that he was found in the temple does not [ 29 ]
  • 30. Jesus was boring and unfriendly mean that he stayed there for several days. He already had enough understanding to know that the caravan had left and did not show sensitivity to the state of mind and concern of his parents... As if this were not enough, he gave a rude response when questioned... Mary complained to Jesus about why he had done this to her and her father, and the boy replied that he was taking care of his father's business?? The biographer Luke only says that Joseph and Mary did not understand what he meant, after all what business??? Luke, foreseeing that we would be shocked by this, at the very least, inelegant and insubordinate attitude of Jesus, only assures us that Jesus was a good son and was subordinate to Joseph and Mary. He only did not get beaten because Joseph and Mary considered him to be the Son of God in human form, because she kept in her heart the words he said to justify his disappearance. This apparent unfriendly behavior of Jesus can only be justified because he was not human and occasionally showed his superior divine nature. This [ 30 ]

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? There is none good but One, that is, God. You know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and your mother. And he said, All these things I have kept from my youth. And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, You still lack one thing: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was very rich. When Jesus saw that he was very sad, he said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard this said, “Who [ 31 ]
  • 32. Jesus was boring and unfriendly then can be saved?” But he answered, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:18-27 I honestly don't know why people started talking to Jesus... It was hard to get away with it without getting a reprimand... It was probably a tradition among the wise men of the East to have these conversations with their disciples, opponents and interlocutors, we see this recurring in the lives of Greek philosophers. Any subject that was brought up would be the subject of a moral lesson. In this case, this rich young man came very carefully to talk to Jesus and immediately called him good... He got into trouble... Christian theology shows that we all have a bad nature. Therefore, technically, theologically, everyone is bad, no one is good. But even so, we sometimes call someone a good man. The young man probably knew this too, but he wanted to be nice... it was no use... Jesus insisted that no one is good, but wasn't Jesus God? Yes! But the rich young man certainly didn't know this and was praising the man with the term good. Then Jesus said that if he wanted to be saved, he should seek to obey the commandments. At this point I [ 32 ]
  • 33. Jesus was boring and unfriendly ask my Protestant friends who think that all it takes is to believe in Christ and that's it, why didn't Jesus tell the young man to just believe in him? Because believing without obeying is a fallacy, a mistake... The rich young man says that he had already been obeying God's commandments. Jesus doesn't congratulate him, he comes with more criticism... Now Jesus says that if he wants to be perfect, he should sell his riches and give to the poor. That would be complicated for everyone, wouldn't it? Jesus??? The text seems to indicate that Jesus considered wealth a sin and there's no point in denying that the first Christians had a certain aversion to worldly riches, even though there were rich people among the Christians. I remember Anthony of Egypt and his wonderful biography and many others in the history of Christianity. I think that no rich person should give up their riches, because a rich person generates many jobs, rich entrepreneurs are what we need most in our world. A rich entrepreneur will always be generating wealth and distributing it through salaries, jobs, investments, etc. But perhaps for that rich prince [ 33 ]

CONFRONTING PETER... 15When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter: "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these others love me?" "Yes, Lord, you know that I LOVE YOU!" he answered. And Jesus commanded: — Take care of my sheep. John 21.15-17 The book of John was originally written in Greek. In Greek, there are four different words that are translated by the word love, and they are known as Ágape, Phileo, Stergo and Eros. 1) Agapao is to regard with reverence, to admire for some good, to love in a higher way. In classical Greek it meant to greet affectionately. Its great difference with [ 35 ]
  • 36. Jesus was boring and unfriendly phileo is that agapao has none of the warmth and affection that characterizes phileo. 2) Phileo is to look at someone with affectionate consideration, to have affection, friendship, to like; it can even be translated as to caress, to kiss. It can be used of the love between a husband and wife. In the New Testament phileo is used to express the love of father and mother and of son and daughter (Matthew 10:37). It is used of Jesus' love for Lazarus (John 11:3,36) and is once used of the beloved disciple (John 20:2). 3) Stergo is a verb that is more related to familial affection. It would be properly translated into Portuguese as to love with tenderness, to endure. Its most common use is to describe the love between spouses, and between parents and children. 4) Eros – used mainly for love between the sexes. Both in Greek and its derivatives in Portuguese (eroticism, erotic) show us that this verb has acquired a pejorative connotation. Our word lover expresses this decadent idea of vocabulary. We know that the dialogue between Jesus and Peter was not conducted in Greek, but rather in Aramaic. [ 36 ]
  • 37. Jesus was boring and unfriendly However, the author of the book (John) made a point of presenting a difference in vocabulary. When Jesus asks Peter if he loves him, Jesus uses the verb Agapao, wanting to know if Peter is capable of loving him with all his heart, deeply and unconditionally. However, Peter responds that he loves him with the verb Phileo, that is, Peter loved him incompletely. Do you remember when Peter denied Jesus before the crucifixion? Peter had told Jesus that he would never deny him, but when the time came, he failed. The Bible says that Peter wept bitterly after this. Now in John 21, where Christ has this conversation with Peter, Jesus asks the same question three times, so that Peter would reflect on the answer he was giving, and recognize that he could not be faithful to God without Christ’s help. But something surprising happens the third time Jesus asks Peter “do you love me?” (John 21:17). Jesus now uses the expression phileo, implying that Jesus accepts Peter’s love for him, even though it is limited by human frailty. So much so that the third time, Peter responds: “Lord, you know that I love you (phileo)”. It is an imperfect love, which needs God’s grace to become [ 37 ]
  • 38. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Agape, but it is what Peter had to offer Jesus, having faith that he would be transformed by God’s grace. In fact, Jesus accepts Peter’s imperfect love. He says to Peter: “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17). Obviously, God wants us all to have Agape love in our hearts. But the Christian life is a life of continuous learning. It is the grace of God, through the Holy Spirit, working in our hearts every day, that will transform our hearts until we reach the ideal that God wants for our lives. By seeking God through sincere prayer and humble study of the Bible every day, we can allow the Holy Spirit to work in us. As we can see from his firm and forceful character, Jesus would not let Peter's denial of him before the crucifixion go unnoticed. Jesus had a serious conversation with Peter. Jesus must have grabbed Peter's cheeks and looked deep into his eyes, shaking his body and saying loudly: "So Peter... do you really love me, young man????" Not even the fact that he was part of the inner circle of the apostles made the disciples feel completely at ease. But what made so many people listen to this nervous little guy???? The missionary Paulo Pereira from Canção Nova made me see the biography of Thomas from a new perspective, which I transcribe: “In view of the attitude of the disciple Thomas towards the fact of the Resurrection of Christ, we have often heard, and thus, we have taken the side that this disciple represents the lack of faith. Who does not remember his phrase? “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe!” (cf. Jn 20:25). [ 45 ]
  • 46. Jesus was boring and unfriendly The disciples’ strengths and weaknesses Thomas, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles, who does not feature prominently in the biblical writings, gains importance at the end of the Gospel of John. Jesus “knew those whom he called” (cf. John 13:18), and he did not choose any of them without a reason. The Master invited His disciples, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, fundamental characteristics for the mission that each one would follow. In his brief narrated participations, we find important aspects of the personality of the Israelite Thomas, a bold man. In the well-known passage from the Gospel cited, we have the presence of Thomas who actively participated in the narrated event. The context is as follows: Jesus died on the Cross; he had been buried; and on Sunday the women returned from the tomb reporting that Christ’s body was no longer there. Then Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene, [ 46 ]
  • 47. Jesus was boring and unfriendly who immediately brought the news to everyone: “I have seen the Lord.” In verse 19, on the evening of that day, Sunday, Jesus appeared to all the apostles who were gathered behind closed doors and in fear. The text in question also shows us the absence of one of them, Thomas, who was not with the apostles. Where was he? He did not hide, and while the others locked themselves away, he was out. Not that it is better, but it shows that he was not afraid to appear in public. He was not one to run away. Thomas is also mentioned in other passages of the Gospel of John, and his participation shows a strong characteristic: he was not one to run away. In the Gospel of John, chapter 11, we have the account of the death and resurrection of Lazarus. Jesus decided to return to Judea, but His disciples were fearful, since they had just threatened Him in the same region. However, Thomas boldly stands with the Master: “Let us also go, that we may die with Him” (cf. Jn 11:16). The apostle is not afraid to follow the Master and die with Him. Thomas trusts Jesus, loves Him and has no reservations about the Master. His desire to follow Him becomes clear when Christ speaks of the Father’s [ 47 ]
  • 48. Jesus was boring and unfriendly house and of a place that He will prepare for them. We see Thomas question Jesus: “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” (cf. Jn 14:5). Perhaps he did not stop at the experience lived by his brothers and wanted to have his own experience. With all the love he felt for Jesus, the desire to be by His side and with the feeling of guilt (as the other apostles also felt) for having abandoned Him in His agony, Thomas will not accept just hearing from his brothers: “we have seen the Lord”. For him, it was not enough to hear, because he did not want to stop at the experience lived by Peter, John and the others. Thomas did not accept just listening to Magdalene's story, which told in detail the moment she met the Master. Thomas boldly expressed his deep desire. Who knows, beyond the doubt in his brothers' words, he revealed the personal agony of his soul? He wanted to have his own experience, and listening to his companions made his desire grow. Listening and responding Thomas is a man who is not afraid, a man who knows what he wants. Not only that, but he also asks the [ 48 ]

Many hear the experience of people who truly saw the Lord and were enchanted by Him, filled with the desire to experience the same thing, because a testimony filled their hearts. Like Thomas, you need to ask God for what you need to believe more. This man did not allow his faith to stagnate, because seeing his weakness, his disbelief, he placed his heart before God. Men who have no reservations before the Lord are those who touch the King’s intimacy. Thomas gave God his limits and He made him enter into His intimacy. (1) MARKING THE UNGRATEFUL... On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus passed through the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers came to him. They stood at a distance and cried out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed. Where are the other nine? He did not seem to be the type to take life “easy.” Jesus was uncompromising and did not make concessions. He could have been happy that out of the ten lepers who were cured, one came to thank [ 50 ]

Only after complaining about the ungrateful did Jesus turn to the one who had returned and bless him, reminding him that his faith had saved him. Here are several ideas as to why the nine lepers never returned to Jesus to give thanks. Remember, these are just suggestions, but they reveal a lot about human nature: [ 51 ]

One said he would have gotten better anyway. One gave the glory to the priests. One said, "Oh, well, Jesus didn't really do anything." One said, "Any rabbi could have done that." One said, "I was already much better." Think about it: Are we thanking God for all He has done and is doing for us? Or are we, like the lepers, rationalizing God's miracles? Any opening someone left in the dialogue was already a reason for him to create a controversy. There is no way to hide this characteristic of his personality. He was an antagonistic type, whose every dialogue quickly leads to a clash. Anyone who knows him knows how annoying this type of person is. In fact, Jesus was like this because he constantly wanted to make [ 53 ]
  • 54. Jesus was boring and unfriendly people reflect. He would not live long and his ministry would be short-lived. Jesus was talking to a group of his disciples when someone said that his mother and brothers were outside and asked to speak with him (Matthew 12:46). Normally, you would think that most people would excuse themselves and say, “I’ll be right back. My mother wants to speak with me,” but Jesus is not typical at all. Instead of stopping and going out to talk to his mother and brothers, who had come to talk to him, he turns this question into another question for the man who asked him this. He asks a rhetorical question: who is my mother and who are my brothers (Matthew 12:48)? He is certainly not talking about His biological mother or His brothers, who were really His half-brothers, since they were related only through His mother. He is talking about those who believe in Him and, believing in Him, do what He asks. Jesus is not being disrespectful or rude to His mother or His brothers. Perhaps after He said this, He went off to talk to them. These verses do not say that He also completely ignored her. We cannot read into the text what is not there. [ 54 ]
  • 55. Jesus was boring and unfriendly In any case, Jesus is constantly scaring people with His harsh words. His personality must have caused people to feel strange, but the Jews were already accustomed to prophets and their less than delicate ways. Anyone who lived around a circle where there were prophets already knew that accepting these rebukes without fuss was part of this coexistence. Mary and Jesus' brothers must have been accustomed to these attitudes from Jesus during His ministry. If Jesus were to look at you and my life, how would He know that we are related to His Father? It would [ 55 ]

If we were nothing like our heavenly Father, and if we did not obey what God commanded, then we clearly would not be Jesus’ brothers, because Jesus says that whoever does the will of the Father is his mother, brothers, and sisters (Matt. 12:50). In other words, there is a family resemblance, not in the way we necessarily look, but in the customs of the family: doing the will of God the Father. If we are doing the will of the Father, then we must be related to Him, and if we are related to God the Father by adoption (Eph. 1:5), then we are certainly related to Jesus. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I would not be delivered over to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from here.” Pilate then said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” John 18:33-37 Pilate had a reputation for being cruel and did not care about Jewish causes, but in the case of Jesus he appears to be cautious, asking questions and receiving blunt answers from Jesus. Even so, Pilate does not lose [ 57 ]
  • 58. Jesus was boring and unfriendly his patience. When Pilate asks if Jesus called himself the king of the Jews, Jesus even seemed a bit insolent when he replied with another question in which he asked if Pilate had thought of that question from his own head, or if he had been induced by others... If a judge asked you a question and you answered with another, you will certainly be reprimanded. I remember the case of the former president and convicted criminal, Lula da Silva, who when questioned by a judge who was replacing Judge Sérgio Moro in Curitiba, asked a question and Lula replied with another: I want to know if I am the owner of the Atibaia farm? The judge reprimanded him and said that she was the one asking questions there... In Jesus' day, such audacity could have had much worse consequences. I do not see Jesus fearful before Pilate's judgment and even knowing what awaited him, he spoke firmly that he had been born with a unique mission. Jesus did not put himself in a weakened position in this dialogue. He maintained his proud and haughty posture. [ 58 ]

He was ugly as hell, this was yet another irony of God, hiding valuable things in clay vessels. Jesus could be ugly, disheveled and even smelling of sour sweat... But there was no one who did not marvel at that spectacular figure. His interior had an impressive strength, even if his exterior was weak. [ 59 ]

And when they came to Capernaum, those who collected drachmas came to Peter and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay drachmas?” He said, “Yes.” And when he had entered the house, Jesus went before him and said, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take tax or census? From their own children or from strangers?” Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the children are free. But so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater; take that and give it for me and you. Matthew 17:24-27 See here again the character of Jesus... When Peter entered the house to collect the tax money, Jesus anticipated and began to question the Jewish collection of the tax established by the Law of Moses. He knew that he did not need to pay such tax because he was the Son of God. He shouted at Peter and insisted on saying that he [ 60 ]
  • 61. Jesus was boring and unfriendly was exempt from paying that tax, but decided to pay it so as not to cause scandal. He was indeed grumpy, he paid it, but he argued with Peter. He could have said that he did not need to pay it because he was the Son of God, but he always added a riddle, a mocking tone and disdain for the situation. Emílio Silva Falcão made a good analysis of this passage: After healing many people, Jesus arrives in Capernaum and, indirectly, is questioned by tax collectors. Let us examine some questions regarding this episode: Who collected the taxes? The tax collectors of the Temple. Peter was known to them and to many of the inhabitants of Capernaum. When they collected the two drachmas tribute from Peter near his residence, where Jesus was staying, they also asked if the Master paid the aforementioned tax. Peter answered affirmatively because Jesus paid and recommended the reimbursement of the taxes even though he disagreed with the undue or abusive taxes. What should we think of the fact that Jesus initiated the conversation about the tax with Peter? [ 61 ]
  • 62. Jesus was boring and unfriendly According to the narratives of the Gospels, Jesus had great spiritual power by demonstrating that he knew the thoughts and feelings of everyone with whom he interacted (Luke 11:18-20). As soon as Peter entered his residence, Jesus did not let his friend discuss the matter. After all, Peter would not talk to the Master about it. He would arrange the payment since he had the material resources to do so. He would not bother the Rabbi with matters of this nature, but Jesus did not depend materially on Peter. On the contrary, he often tried to help him, as he did when he caught a miraculous catch of fish (Luke 5:1- 11). Even after the crucifixion, Jesus helped him with his fishing trip, according to the Gospel of John (21:1-14), which tells of another fishing trip guided by Jesus, the so- called “second miraculous catch”. In both cases, Peter did not ask for Jesus’ help because he would never bother him with material requests. However, the Sublime Friend helped the Great Fisherman out of a generous initiative and because he was grateful to his kind host. Did Jesus live with Peter? It is better to say that he was an illustrious guest at Peter's house. When he intensified his public life, after [ 62 ]
  • 63. Jesus was boring and unfriendly leaving Nazareth, the Master went to stay at Peter's house in Capernaum. This was in response to the invitation of the devoted apostle. However, Jesus spent most of his time visiting many places. In addition, it was the Master's habit to pray for long periods of time on the shores of Lake Galilee, in the valleys or on the top of the mountains. What did the tribute of two drachmas mean? It was a tax that was paid using the value of two Greek coins, that is, two drachmas, or didrachmas, equivalent to 3.6 grams of silver. The didrachma tax was introduced by Moses as ransom money, according to Exodus 30:11-13: “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘When you take a census of the Israelites, each one must give the Lord a ransom for his life when he is counted. That way no plague will come upon them when you count them. Each one who is counted must contribute six grams, based on the sanctuary shekel, which is twelve grams. The six grams are an offering to the Lord. Everyone who is registered, from twenty years old and upward, must give this offering to the Lord. The rich must not contribute more, nor the poor give less than six grams, when they present the offering to the Lord as atonement for their life. [ 63 ]
  • 64. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Receive the price of the atonement from the Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. Meeting. It will be a memorial before the Lord in favor of the Israelites, to make atonement for their lives.” What was the difference between the drachma and the stater? The stater was equivalent to four drachmas, or 7.2 grams of silver. The denarius, a worker’s wage for one day, was equivalent to almost 4 grams of silver. The talent was equivalent to 6,000 drachmas, or 21,600 grams of silver. As for the measure, a shekel was equivalent to 12 grams, or 20 gerahs. For Jesus, who were the “sons and strangers”? For Jesus, the temple tax should be transformed into a voluntary and pleasurable donation and not a tribute for a demonstration of faith. In Moses’ time, it could be justified due to the primitive religious consciousness of the people, but Jesus did not see this need in his time. Spontaneous donation has a better effect than imposition for supplying the material needs of religious institutions. Strangers are those who have not yet learned the value of generosity and therefore need to pay taxes to maintain [ 64 ]
  • 65. Jesus was boring and unfriendly religious and philanthropic institutions. Children are already at an advanced level of consciousness and do not need to be charged, as they have the initiative to collaborate with joy and devotion to serve the entities of faith and charity. Why did Jesus decide to pay the tribute with a coin taken from the mouth of a fish? Although he did not want to “scandalize” by being against the tribute, the Master wanted to demonstrate the logic of his thinking about generous action. After all, the coin found in the fish was not the result of earthly work, but of his power and generosity. Why would the coin be in the first fish and not among the others that could have been caught? Because the objective was not to fish, but to pay the tribute. This demonstrates Jesus’ objective personality. After all, the Master and his disciples had just returned from a long journey, and so it would not be appropriate to require Peter to check countless fish until he discovered which one contained the stater. [ 65 ]
  • 66. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Was the silver coin in the fish’s mouth the result of some materialization through the phenomenon of transportation? I believe that God, knowing everything, had already arranged for the fish to pick up the coin from the bottom of the lake to fulfill that divine purpose. Would there be a special type of fish for this purpose? [ 66 ]

It is a fish of the species Hemichromis sacra. In this case, instead of a stone, some fish of this species or a similar one could have grabbed the coin found at the bottom of the lake. (2) DISCOURAGING FOLLOWERS And it came to pass, as they went on the way, that one said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests: but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. Luke 9:57,58 Jesus giveth no quarter to anyone. Everyone tells us to be welcoming and friendly, but Jesus himself was tough and tough all the time. At this moment someone offers to follow him, and he doesn't seem excited, saying it would be a difficult journey. Many of us Christians come to Christ all excited and as time goes by, we become [ 67 ]

But Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead; but go and preach the kingdom of God. Luke 9:59,60 [ 68 ]
  • 69. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Jesus was not one to be slack. He was rude and antisocial when he advised his son to follow him and not go to his father's funeral. Jesus was the master of hyperbole, that is, he always exaggerated what he said and his comparisons, causing an impact on his listeners. Imagine a stranger telling you not to go to your father's funeral, and then mocking the other people present at the wake, saying that they were a bunch of dead people burying another dead person. It seems that Jesus is saying: He's dead, it's over... life goes on, let's go. Even though the message of [ 69 ]
  • 70. Jesus was boring and unfriendly salvation precedes everything in this life, in practice none of us Christians are willing to follow Jesus to this level of detachment. The worst part is that Jesus is probably telling the truth. We understand that Jesus' teaching is quite harsh. There is an added aggravating factor: burying his parents while talking about the fourth commandment of the law. Jesus will defend this commandment, but Jesus is against the malicious speculations of the scribes. Jesus states: Your calling is urgent, time is pressing. Jesus wants to tell the disciple that the calling is urgent, time is pressing, the Kingdom of God is at the door. Any delay in fulfilling this calling can have serious consequences. In conclusion, Jesus states: His disciple must respond promptly to the calling to find true life, otherwise he is condemned to remain among the dead. (3) [ 70 ]
  • 71. Jesus was boring and unfriendly LEAVE THE HOUSE AND DON'T TALK TO ANYONE And another said, Lord, I will follow thee: but let me first bid farewell to them that are at home. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:61,62 Follow Jesus with his coarse and rude speech... Now someone commits to following him, but asks for a little time so that he can say goodbye to his relatives, and Jesus says that if he is really willing to follow him, he should do so without giving any great importance to saying goodbye to his relatives. Jesus gives such priority to the content of his mission and his message, that he demands extravagant things from those who are applying to follow him. Nothing we do for him is too great. A carnal mind will always see Jesus as boring and unfriendly, antisocial, inconvenient, arrogant, pretentious, and ill- [ 71 ]
  • 72. Jesus was boring and unfriendly mannered. So??? Are you willing to follow him anyway??? Only He has the word of eternal life!!! Someone wants to follow Christ, but asks for a little time; he wants to tell his own family first. Jesus, instead, uses an image from the world of agriculture to convey what he asks of those who want to imitate him. The image consists of the activity of plowing the land. At that time, tractors did not exist, but the land was plowed with oxen or other animals. The person leading the animal could not be distracted, but had to pay attention to the animals and the effort he was making with his own hands, so that the plow would follow a straight line. Looking back meant creating a crooked ditch, deviating from the right direction. The action of the 'called' who, before following Christ, wants to go home and say goodbye to his family is like someone who is plowing the land and does not behave well, does not do his job well. Christ's message does not consist in the fact that someone who wants to follow the Christian life can no longer 'give a damn' to his own family. Jesus wants to [ 72 ]
  • 73. Jesus was boring and unfriendly emphasize that if a person wants to become a Christian, he does not need to wait or create a particular, special situation, but must start immediately, doing well what he normally does. This is the same meaning that the other example has of a person to whom Jesus says "follow me". He answers: "Let me first go and bury my father". And Jesus answers: "Let the dead bury their own dead" (Luke 9:59-60). It is not that Jesus does not want us to take care of the people we live with, the people we love. He wants us not to think that we can postpone our commitment, our dedication, until an opportune time. The time is now. (4) UNABLE TO STAND HUMAN RELATIONSHIP And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and some scribes disputing with them. And immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were amazed, and ran to him, and saluted him. And he asked the scribes, What are you disputing with [ 73 ]
  • 74. Jesus was boring and unfriendly them? And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I brought to you my son, who has a dumb spirit: and wherever it seizes him, it tears him to pieces, and he foams and grinds his teeth, and pines away: and I told your disciples to cast him out, and they could not. And he answered and said unto them, O faithless generation! How long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer with you? Bring it to me. Mark 9:14-19 This phrase: “How long shall I be with you” indicates Jesus’ weariness in the face of men’s anguish and suffering. Jesus had great compassion, but the pain of others ended up falling on his shoulders and this was becoming heavy. At the same time that he shows his apparent bad mood with the phrase above, he also shows his compassion when he says: “How long shall I suffer with you?” Dennis Allan makes an interesting reflection on this exhaustion of God’s patience: How long? God asks men [ 74 ]
  • 75. Jesus was boring and unfriendly The question “How long?” often comes from men who seek help or who seek to understand God’s acts. But God also asks this question. Generally, he asks “How long?” to challenge men and make them think about the consequences of their behavior. Let us consider some examples: ● To evil leaders. God demands that the leaders of his people continue with their lies and injustice. False teachers in Jeremiah’s day, like many today, claimed to have dreams and visions from God, when in fact they spoke the inventions of their own hearts. God rebuked them: “How long will this be in the hearts of the prophets who proclaim lies, who speak the deceit of their own hearts? … Behold, I am against the prophets, declares the LORD, who speak their own word and say, ‘He says so.’ … For I did not send them or command them, and they have not profited this people at all, declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 23:26-32). Through Asaph, God condemned unjust judges: “How long will you judge unjustly and take sides with the wicked?” (Psalm 82:2). [ 75 ]
  • 76. Jesus was boring and unfriendly ● To the unbelievers. God showed His frustration with the people of Israel in the wilderness: “How long will this people provoke Me and refuse to believe Me, despite all the signs I have performed among them?” (Numbers 14:11). Despite all the evidence God presented, the people still refused to submit to Him. And today, despite all the evidence around us, many people refuse to admit the existence of God. How long will He be patient? ● To the rebellious and disobedient. God asked the proud king of Egypt, “How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?” (Exodus 10:3). To the Israelites, after they left Egypt, God asked, “How long will you refuse to keep My commandments?” (Exodus 16:28). 800 years later, He looked at the people living in Jerusalem and said, “I have seen your abominations on the hills and in the fields—your adulteries, your neighings, and the lewdness of your prostitution. Woe to you, Jerusalem! How long will you not be clean?” (Jeremiah 13:27). In the same book, He asked, “How long will you wander, O backsliding daughter?” (31:22). ● Those who are stubborn and refuse to change. One of God’s great frustrations in dealing with men is the [ 76 ]
  • 77. Jesus was boring and unfriendly stubbornness of men who refuse to change their thoughts and behavior. Israel, after centuries of correction and instruction, insisted on maintaining their idolatrous practices. God asked, “How long will they be incapable of innocence?” (Hosea 8:5). They had become so seared by sin that it became nearly impossible for them to repent. Jerusalem came to the same extreme, and God spoke: “O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will you entertain your evil thoughts?” (Jeremiah 4:14). Wisdom warns those who refuse instruction: “How long, O fools, will you love folly? And you scoffers, will you desire to be scorned? And you fools, will you hate knowledge?” (Proverbs 1:22). But many, like Esau, are so consumed with worldly things that they cannot shake off their folly (Hebrews 12:17). The consequences are very serious: “Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD; they would none of my counsel and despised all my reproof. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own ways and be filled with their own devices. Fools are killed by their own error, and fools are destroyed by their own good” (Proverbs 1:29-32). [ 77 ]
  • 78. Jesus was boring and unfriendly ● To the lazy. Man was created to serve, to work. Right at the beginning of human existence, God gave him the responsibility to work. Therefore, laziness is a demonstration of rebellion against the Creator. After citing the good example of the ant’s dedication to her work, the author of Proverbs asks these questions: “How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— poverty will come on you like a thief, and want like an armed man” (Proverbs 6:9-11). [ 78 ]
  • 79. Jesus was boring and unfriendly God’s Patience is Exhausted God is longsuffering and merciful, but when man refuses to change, he reaches the end of his patience. When the cowardly spies refused to take possession of the promised land, God asked, “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which they murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings which the children of Israel murmur against me” (Numbers 14:27). When Jesus’ disciples were slow to understand and apply his teachings, he expressed the same frustration: “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you?” (Matthew 17:17). Two questions remain for each of us: 1. How long shall we delay in correcting the errors in our lives? 2. How long will God be patient with us? (5) CURSING EVEN THE PLANTS [ 79 ]
  • 80. Jesus was boring and unfriendly And in the morning he returned to the city, and was hungry; And seeing a fig tree by the road, he went to it and found nothing on it but leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit grow on you ever again!” And immediately the fig tree withered away. When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so quickly?” But Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. Matthew 21:18-21 Jesus seemed like an irritated and short-tempered person. He looked for a fruit on the tree and did not find any, so he struck it down with a curse. The little thing withered away immediately... I can imagine these environmentalists from Greenland following Jesus and seeing an “ecological” scene like this... Jesus did what he wanted and did not care about the evil of the 21st century, the so-called “political correctness.” This passage is so culturally and morally [ 80 ]
  • 81. Jesus was boring and unfriendly shocking that even Wikipedia devoted an article to the case of Jesus cursing the fig tree: Traditional Christian exegesis of this account includes affirming Jesus' divinity by demonstrating his authority over nature. Traditional Reformed thought holds that this event was a sign given by Jesus about the end of the exclusive covenant between God and the Jews (see supersessionism). From this viewpoint, the tree would be a metaphor for the Jewish nation, which would have a magnificent outward appearance (the leaves) but was no longer producing anything for the glory of God (the lack of fruit). This interpretation is linked to the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree. Since neither Matthew nor Mark explain why Jesus expected to find fruit on the tree after they had explicitly explained that it was not the season for figs, skeptics often present this story as evidence of a contradiction in the gospels. Charles Bradlaugh has suggested that cursing a living tree would be contrary to the character of the supposedly benign creator. [ 81 ]
  • 82. Jesus was boring and unfriendly F. F. Bruce states that fig trees produce 'taqsh' ahead of time if they are to bear fruit at the right time. Since this one did not, it was a sign that it would not bear any fruit that year. Craig Keener has used this passage as a way of dating Matthew's Gospel to an early date, stating that only someone with a strong knowledge of the Mount of Olives would have known that his fig trees are in full leaf around Passover time. But his lord answered and said unto him, O wicked and slothful servant! knewest thou that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not scattered seed? Then thou shouldest have put my money to the exchangers, and when I came, I should have received mine with interest. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him which hath ten talents. And he said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away from here, and stop making my Father’s house a house of merchandise.” And his disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house has eaten me up.” John 2:14-17 [ 92 ]
  • 93. Jesus was boring and unfriendly This passage from the Bible shows that Jesus used physical violence to impose his will in the temple. As God in human form, he did not follow Roman or Jewish laws and used his supreme authority to kick and kick the sellers out of the temple. He certainly arrived with a large group, larger than the twelve apostles, and they managed to expel both those who were selling and those who were buying and doing business in the temple in Jerusalem. These actions only increased the antipathy that the religious leaders felt for him. Jesus caused harm to business, at least momentarily. [ 93 ]

  • 95. Jesus was boring and unfriendly Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “Could you not keep watch with me for even one hour? Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” He went away again and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass away unless I drink it, your will be done.” He came back again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. He left them again and went away to pray for the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep on now and take your rest. The hour is at [ 95 ]
  • 96. Jesus was boring and unfriendly hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.” Matthew 26:40-45 Jesus was not at all understanding, like those mothers who justify their children’s inability to do their homework by laziness and lack of dedication. Jesus prayed and when the disciples fell asleep, he went over and gave them a dressing down. It was no use, the companions went back to sleep right after Jesus turned his back. The disciples were unable to stay awake during the night vigil. Jesus never overlooks the mistakes of his followers. He always reprimands. HE WAS RUDE EVEN TO THE WISE Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; [ 96 ]
  • 97. Jesus was boring and unfriendly for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you a teacher of Israel, and you do not know these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and testify of what we have seen, and you do not [ 97 ]
  • 98. Jesus was boring and unfriendly accept our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?” John 3:1-12 Jesus was never concerned about making others feel embarrassed. When he spoke a teaching that the wise Nicodemus did not understand, he made fun of him, saying that he was a teacher and did not know that teaching. Nicodemus was certainly embarrassed, but Jesus never worried about making others comfortable. CONCLUSION By titling the book and labeling Jesus as boring and unfriendly, it is not a lack of respect, but a clear conclusion about the relationship of normal people with a person who is more than perfectionist, a perfect person, since Jesus was the perfect man and had the divine nature in his being. Jesus' demands and his holy vision made his relationship with men always boiling. Jesus was [ 98 ]
  • 99. Jesus was boring and unfriendly always calling attention to himself, which made him a purgative; he was only harassed by people because of his supernatural gifts. His death was a conspiracy that involved his disciple, the Jews, the people, the Romans and the rulers. In short, he died for everyone and at the hands of everyone..
