- 9. Local Area Network (LAN) A local area network or LAN is a network that connects computers within a limited area. This might be in a school, an office or even a home. It shares a common communications line or wireless link to a server within a distinct geographic area.

Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a computer network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic region of the size of a metropolitan area. The term MAN is applied to the interconnection of (LANs) in a city into a single larger network which may then also offer efficient connection to a WAN. It is an interconnection of several LANs in a metropolitan area through the use of point-to-point connections between them.

It covers a larger geographical area, usually with a radius of more than a kilometer. We can say that Internet is the second name for WAN.

Cost–Effective Systems • Computer networks have reduced the cost of establishment of computer systems in organizations.
